Tr. Sabeel Shariff when afforded an opportunity to explain the running and riding of his charge AL ATTATURK, ridden by Jockey Nelson Maseyk, stated that taking into consideration the field which consisted of only four horses he had instructed the rider to lead the field at a controlled pace and not to distance himself by more than two  lengths from the rest of the runners during the early and middle stages of the race.  However, he was disappointed that the rider took an unduly long lead in the initial and middle stages of the race which, in his opinion, resulted in the poor performance of his charge.  Jockey Nelson Maseyk when questioned corroborated the trainer’s instructions and stated that the gelding was very keen during the early stages of the race, consequently he allowed the gelding to stride freely as he was not inclined to break the gelding’s stride.  The Stipendiary Stewards not being satisfied with the jockey’s explanation fined him a sum of Rs. 2,500/- for unsatisfactory riding in that he made no attempt to ride his mount as instructed by the trainer and cautioned him as to his future riding.
