SMOKEY BABA was examined by the Veterinary Officer at 2.00 P.M. and found to be lame on right fore. Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. Tr. Shafiq Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

ACULEUS (C Alford) travelling along the rails was checked by its jockey and lost ground due to the crowding of the field when approaching the 400 metre marker and thereafter hung ‘out’ on entering the straight despite the best efforts of the rider to keep it on a straight path. Tr. Vijay Singh was informed to get his charge examined by the Veterinary Officer before accepting with it again. The Stipendiary Stewards once again emphasized to the trainer that he should pay more
attention to identify and eliminate the problem which prevents many of his charges from running on a straight path.

Jockey Nelson Maseyk, the rider of DANCE IN CHINA, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his mount stated that when approaching the 1000 metre marker he shifted his mount violently outwards from the inner rail to avoid running into the heels of the front running horses, as he was unable to adequately control his mount which had started to race fiercely. The Stipendiary Stewards noted his explanation.

INSIDER (Md Imran) finished off the race detached from the field. Trainer R W Alford was advised to ensure that his charge was capable of a better performance before accepting with it again.
