ATHLETICO (Dashrath Singh) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

Jockey Hindu Singh, the rider of BANG BANG, reported that his mount was inclined to hang ‘out’ while negotiating the bend.

When afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his mount ONE MAN ARMY, Jockey Russell Xaviers stated that he was instructed to place his mount in a leading position and to do his best. However, in spite of his best efforts to control the pace in the early and middle stages of the race he was unable to do so as the gelding had bolted. When queried as to why he had failed to ride his mount to complete advantage in the final 50 metres of the race he stated that as the gelding had changed legs on a number of occasions he did not want to put excessive pressure on his mount fearing that something may be wrong with the gelding. The gelding was examined by the Veterinary Officers and no ailment was noticed. The Stipendiary Stewards informed Jockey Russell Xaviers that he was being given the benefit of doubt in this instance and emphasized to him the many reasons as to why every mount of his should be ridden to complete advantage.
