PEPPER (Y S Srinath) was extremely fractious in its stall, reared up dislodging its rider, in the process the Jockey sustained blunt injury on his right knee. Under the circumstances the gelding was permitted to be withdrawn before coming under Starter’s orders. The Jockey was given immediate medical attention and declared unfit to fulfil his remaining engagements for the day.

Jockey Nikhil Naidu, the rider of PONTIUS PILATE, reported that his mount was not galloping fluently throughout the race and trotted back lame. On veterinary examination the horse was found to be lame on its left fore. Tr. Shafiq Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

Tr. B Mahesh and Jockey H Rahul when afforded an opportunity to explain the running and riding of b g THE FLYING EAGLE, the Trainer stated that :-

a) My instructions to the Jockey H Rahul were - I told him the race will be fast so take a good jump, sit wherever you are comfortable and don’t use the gelding in the initial part, give him a chance and bring him gradually and do your best in the straight.

b) In my view the jockey followed my instructions, rode the gelding in a proper way and as compared to his last two runs the gelding ran on its merit and I am happy the horse finished 3rd .

The Jockey corroborated the Trainer’s instructions and further stated that the initial pace of the race was too fast, the front runners came back which helped his mount to finish on 3rd .

The Stipendiary Steward not being satisfied with the explanations tendered, decided that the enquiry into the above will be continued.
