MADAGASCAR (S. Zervan) was reluctant to be stalled. RED INDIAN (J. Chinoy) was restless in the stall and thereafter swayed its head as the start was effected thus losing about 3 lengths at the start. Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to give both his charges more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.
At the start MERLIN (P. Trevor) jumped and veered outwards thereby cutting across RED INDIAN (J. Chinoy) who was slow to begin.
Approaching 600 metres, MERLIN (P. Trevor) was observed to have lost its footing and drifted out. Thereafter, as the horse was in discomfort Jockey P. Trevor pulled up and dismounted.
Approaching 100 metres, MADAGASCAR (S. Zervan) shifted in and went across GOLD MEDALIST (T. S. Jodha) who had to be checked. After the race on questioning, Jockey S. Zervan stated that his mount was inclined to run out in the straight and in his effort to maintain a straight course his mount shifted in. In view of the same, Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.
After the race Jockey A. Sandesh (PATRIOTS DAY) reported that his mount was running green.
The Sr. V.O. reported that MERLIN (P. Trevor) stopped galloping at the 600 metres. On examination, the colt was found to have dislocated both sesamoids of left fore leg. After sedation and bandaging the leg, the colt was sent to the Equine Hospital in the Horse Ambulance for further investigation and treatment. The colt was subsequently euthanized at the Trainer’s request.
