Racing Incidents
Trainer Mr. S. Padmanabhan and Jockey Wayne Smith were questioned regarding the running and riding of RIVER ISLAND. The rider stated that his mount was slow into stride losing about 3 to 4 lengths at the start, thereafter he had to repeatedly check his mount i.e. once within 100 Metres of the start and approaching the 700 Metres and again approaching the final bend due to pauci- ty of opening and as such he could not be up with the field and could only finish 5th. The trainer corroborating the statement of the rider added that the luck of the race did not favour his charge. Their explanations were noted. After the race the Club`s Veterinary Officer reported that on examination it was observed that the left fore shoe of RIVER ISLAND (Wayne Smith) had apparently splayed during the race.
