SEPTIMUS SEVERUS was difficult to load.

Jockey R S Bhati (SEPTIMUS SEVERUS) reported that his mount which was travelling well till about the 600 metres, when asked for an effort seemed to be choking and dropped back. The Veterinary Officer was requested to examine the colt and submit his report. Post race endoscopy revealed that the colt was suffering from respiratory tract infection (Grade 2).

The Veterinary Officer reported that ZAAJEL returned with a cut injury on its left hind fetlock.

For accepting with his charge ANGEL LIGHT while under medication, Tr. Sabeel Shariff was fined a sum of Rs. 5,000/- (2nd instance). 

Subsequently the mare was permitted to be withdrawn.

On the morning of Tuesday, 2nd April, 2024 ch h THALAMES, a declared starter in the above race, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be lame on left hind. Under the circumstances the horse was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. Tr. Shafiq Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

KINDRED SPIRIT missed the jump. MR. PERFECT was fractious in its stall.

Tr. B Rajender Reddy (deputising for Tr. Jasbir Singh) and Jockey Mohit Singh when questioned regarding the riding of MR PERFECT, the Trainer stated that the instructions to the Jockey were to place the gelding in 4th/5th position and to do his best in the straight. Jockey Mohit corroborated the instructions. Not being satisfied with Jockey Mohit Singh’s explanation whereby he dropped his mount to the rare end of the field, placing his mount in a disadvantageous position, the Jockey was fined a sum of Rs. 10,000/-.

The Veterinary Officer reported that DUBAI PRINCE and SPARKLE N SHINE returned lame on their respective right fore. Trs. Shafiq Khan and Dr. Anil Kumar were informed not to accept with respective charges until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

Jockey Neeraj Rawal reported that his mount CHILILADY was tardy to jump out and did not quicken when asked for a final effort. Post race endoscopy of dk b f CHILILADY revealed no abnormalities.

For accepting with his charge THOUSAND WORDS while under medication, Tr. Patrick Quinn was fined a sum of Rs. 2,000/-. Subsequently the gelding was permitted to be withdrawn.

App Abdul Fazal (HIDDEN GOLD) reported that the saddle used on the gelding shifted back passing the 300 metres as such he eased up his mount. Tr. Aashay Doctor was fined a sum of Rs. 2,000/- for faulty saddling.

The Veterinary Officer reported that DR DOOM returned with mouth injury.

SPECULATOR was re-saddled at the start. BLUE CHIP was difficult to load.

PYRGOS and TICKER were slow to begin losing approximately 3 – 4 lengths at the start. Trs. Aashay Doctor and Jasbir Singh were informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Starter in a barrier trial.

DUBAI KING (Mustakim Alam) which was racing keenly in the initial stages of the race dropped back suddenly from about the 700 metres causing Jockey Vivek G (BLUE CHIP) travelling behind to take evasive measure and switched course to the outside. Jockey Mustakim Alam (DUBAI KING) eased up his mount passing the 300 metres as the gelding bled profusely and did not complete the course. Tr. Shafiq Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

LIBAN (A Ayaz Khan) which was at the helm of the field dropped back rapidly from the 300 metres. The Veterinary Officer was requested to examine the colt and submit his report and on examination the colt was found to be sound.

Jockey Vinay Jaiswal (TENDER HEART) reported loss of whip passing the 200 metres. Since this is the second instance of such incident, the Jockey was cautioned to be more careful in future to avoid severe disciplinary action.

SAVVY CHIC was re-saddled at the start. Tr. Patrick Quinn was advised to be more careful in the saddling of his charges.

STOCKBRIDGE was very difficult to load. Tr. Aashay Doctor was advised to give his charge adequate gate practice before accepting with it again.

The Veterinary Officer reported that :-

a) TIGRIO returned lame on left fore. Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

b) STOCKBRIDGE returned with a gum injury..

Tr. Rajesh Narredu when afforded an opportunity to explain the improved performance of his charge b h MANDELA as compared to its previous outings in Race no. 125 run on 3rd March, 2024 and Race No. 145 run on 23rd March, 2024, stated that:-

1. “I have taken charge of MANDELA in February 2024 from Mr. Srinivas Reddy and he was shifted directly to Kolkata, and I knew very little about the horse other than his performance on paper. 

2. The horse was given a mock race on 21st Feb 2024 where he led until the bend and fizzled out, due to which I thought he was better off at sprinting distance as he also showed a lot of initial pace.

3. Subsequently he was run in an 1100 metre race on 3rd March 2024, where he was well beaten for initial speed and in the end by the new track record holder "LA DOMINATE".

4. The owners and I thought the race may have come too quickly for him and decided to give him some more time but keep him at the sprinting distance and ran him again over 1200 mtrs on 23rd March 2024, where he was ridden by Akshay Kumar where he ran a slightly better race finishing 5th about 5¼ lengths behind the eventual winner.

5. Jockey Akshay Kumar after the race stated to me that he had previously ridden this horse and won over 1600 meters and that he felt the horse was a very one paced kind of a horse and a longer steadier galloping kind of a race will suit him and that we should try to run him over a longer trip only.

6. With the Jockey’s feed back and the fact that the season was coming to an end we found this race, though it was coming very early, and after seeing the entries we felt that the company is very average and that the horse could fair better in this race.

7. The horse was accepted in this race and with a small field of 4 runners, the front running tactics helped the horse in maintaining a very even gallop all through out and under a very capable ride of Jockey Vivek G helped the horse to win.

8. The owners and I have decided to try and keep this horse at trips ranging from 1600 mtrs upwards in future”.
