By Prince | 08-Jan-2017

Guys first of all i want to say one thing that i m poor in english. may be some sentenses are may not perfect but try to understood and clarify my doubts either telugu language or english...

Friends..

i m betting in horse racing from last two years.. i met so many seniours and so many punters those whose playing from years and years.. when ever i try ask some doubts about track conditions i am getting different ans from them.. if u knw well then tell me about my small littile doubts..

1. what is different of IS and OS and RG..

2. Which one is better track when compare those..

3. In track why 600, 800, 1000 metres track time is given.. is those lengths are exact length horse ran or final bend posstions of that race( so many peoples said that timing is final bend finishng time of horse of that perticuler race ).. bt even i dnt get clarity for those..

4. explain about equipments of horse like Blinkers, TS, Paci blink, XNB etc.. i searched so many times i dnt get clarity ...

5. why handdicapers raise horse weight at handdicapping stage.. some times its lowering also.. why like that ( i have littile clarity by raising or lowering at acceptance stage if u had chance explain this also )

6. how to consider a horse Weight( 437, 438 etc like ) is raised or lowered when compare previous run.. is it tells about its strength or any other reasons..

7. why racing horses are shown in padock.. is any assign to knw about horse condition or any other reasons..

and i had lot i dnt get proper ans from last two years..

Well explained Mr.Braganza,

Regarding Handicapping weight raised or lowered is purely Handicapping.Weights are related to ratings It is the term/Class of the race which is taken into account. Eg. Class Four 1V race 30 to 50 rated horses the weight alloted to carry is Top weight 60 for horse rating 50 and50 for horse rating 30. Suppose 54 rated horse is entered in this race weight is raised by 2kg (.5kg for each raised rating) at acceptance stage,And if there is no horse at 50 rating eg.46 rated horse in class 1V than weight is reduced by 2kg.Terms race is different from handicap racing. The above example is for handicap racing.

Hi Prince,
Most of the answers given by Braganza are more or less correct, I'll try and fill in some blanks.

1) ...Although mostly right do note that the distances on all three tracks are more or less the same. While it may seem logical that the OS track covers more ground, in reality the distances are the same. If you observe carefully the next time you are at the track the 200m and 400m markers which are in the straight are at almost the same place on all tracks but once the track starts turning the markers are slightly further away on the IS track to account for the fact that it is on the inside. In fact all tracks were measured for distances with a meter before the distance markers were put up on each track in the same way that they measure the race distance on race day before the the starting gates are set up. The reason that the OS track times are slower is because it has deeper sand cover and takes more effort for the horses to get through it. Similarly grass track is a slightly faster surface than the inner sand.

4) XNB is a cross nose band used to help the jockey to gain more control over a horse with poor steering or manners. It is also sometimes used together with a TS if a horse has breathing abnormalities.

7) An experienced racegoer will easily be able to pick the better horse in the paddock but don't worry, with a bit of practice it is easily learnt. The easiest place to start is look at the tummy of the horse to see if he looks fit yet or if he is still a bit fat perhaps he may need another run or two before he can be competitive, particularly over longer trips. Certain trainers do prefer their horses carrying a bit more weight than other trainers so take that into consideration. Other than that just look at their overall body language and you'll get better in time. If you can try and watch some of the races in Hong Kong or Singapore where the commentators give their observations on each runner before the race. Listening to them will teach you what attributes to look out for.

Hope this helps!

@ Prince

I will attempt to answer some of your questions below, as per my understanding.

1. what is different of IS and OS and RG..

The main race tract is is race grass (RG). On the edge of the RG near to the stands where people stand to watch the races, there is a narrow sand track which is used to give track work to horses. This is called Outer Sand or OS. On the other side of the RG, there is another narrow sand track which is also used to give track work to horses. This is called inner sand track of IS. Usually in the early mornings the horses are made to run for varying distances which depends upon the Trainers. These timings are noted and are reported under the track work in the race books etc. The timings of OS are always slower than the timings of IS because the OS covers longer distance. The RG timings are much faster and they are sometimes near to the actual race timings (in case of very good horses).

2. Which one is better track when compare those.
It is not possible to judge which track is good or bad etc. All you have to note is that if a horse gives track work of say 1000M in 1 minute 15 Seconds on the OS (which the race track reporters have taken as a standard time), the same horse, if it had been made to run on the IS on the same day in the same condition, would have probably given the time of about 1 minute 12 seconds. So also if the same horse in the same condition on the same day had been made to give track on RG, it would probably finish in timing of 1 minute 6 seconds or so. These are only rough timings just to point out the difference in the timings on these three tracks.

3. In track why 600, 800, 1000 metres track time is given.. is those lengths are exact length horse ran or final bend posstions of that race( so many peoples said that timing is final bend finishng time of horse of that perticuler race ).. bt even i dnt get clarity for those..

In track work the trainers decide to give the practice to the horses for different distances. Normally the track work starts from the respective distance marks as displayed at the race course. Suppose 1000 M track work is to be given to the horse, then the horse will be made to start running from the 1000 M marker and would be made to run till the winning post and the time taken by the horse to cover this distance would be recorded and reported as track work. In track works the timing from the final bend does not count much. The time taken by a horse to run the last 600M or 400M in actual races is considered important. This is usually considered to know the potential of the horse in running over a particular distance and based on that the horse will be made to run over its pet distance.

You should also note that the track distances of 600 800 1000 etc., will not be exact distances and they will be approximate only.

You should also note that sometimes track work is given by jockeys who are overweight themselves and in such cases the time would be slightly slow. There also appear to be many tricks the trainers adopt to hide the true form of the horse by making to appear its time to be slow (to get good odds when it runs in an actual race); and vice versa viz., to make it appear to be very fast (for purposes of eating the horse when it becomes favourite).

4. explain about equipments of horse like Blinkers, TS, Paci blink, XNB etc.. i searched so many times i dnt get clarity ...

Blinkers are put around the horse's eyes so that it is able to see only in front. Pacifiers are similar equipment. TS is tongue strap. The tongue of the horse is strapped and the tongue remains in place and protrudes from the mouth of the horse. XNB may be cross nose band, but I am not sure. The trainers chose to use these equipment depending upon the traits of the particular horses.

5. why handdicapers raise horse weight at handdicapping stage.. some times its lowering also.. why like that ( i have littile clarity by raising or lowering at acceptance stage if u had chance explain this also )

I have no answer for this question.

6. how to consider a horse Weight( 437, 438 etc like ) is raised or lowered when compare previous run.. is it tells about its strength or any other reasons.

The horse weight you have referred here is the body weight of the horse i.e., the horse is made to stand on the scale and its weight is measured. The horse weight in many cases goes on changing from time to time. Sometimes the horse weight might have increased just by making the animal to put on lot of weight without giving any exercises or during a long lay-off. There are several tricks the trainers adopt in this field also.

7. why racing horses are shown in padock.. is any assign to knw about horse condition or any other reasons.

Horses are shown in the paddock so that the punters can see the actual physical condition of the horse. Many times the horses appear to have excellent chance on paper but a mere look at the horse in the paddock would clearly tell that on that particular day it will not win. So also a horse having no chance on paper may give clear indication of its readiness to win the particular race. It is another matter that many times horses looking very good in the paddock finish in the ruck also. It all depends upon the actual ability of the horse to run fast, or the intentions of the connections to run it on merits in that run, the luck of the race and so on.
