I am quite surprised to see Ys Srinath being aasigned mount in Race no 2 horse no 5 Mathaiyus.. Horse is assgined weight of 49 kgs whereas Srinath is close to 54 kgs..
What could be the reason to take disadvantage of such handicap selection.

The horse won in a record time of 2.37 .9 mins.I leave it to your imagination the reasons for this brilliant performance.[Set light won in 2.27 mins]
Please note the repeated announcements before even race one.
The trainer at the behest of the owner requested a 5.5 kgs over wt Which was given. So Pessi played it safe.
Any one claiming it will run in Indian derby may do so but will be in the last few horses..

Point is horse won today and at good odds defying the handicapper
Good win in the day for the trainer & jockey & thats what racing is all about [Precise calculations for a particular race ] with good finish
this is a forum & discussion was on a particular ride .... nobody cursed the trainer or jockey
Some were confident Mathaiyus would win -others were sure horse would lose
So the arguments -
We all here to share info & VIEWS and not to show anyone down so chill my friend
but ....
MATHAIYUS SHOULD NOT BE SIGHTED @ THE BUSY END IN THE MUMBAI DERBY 2017 .....even if it runs

Now that the verdict is out how does Handicapper handle this situation where a horse carries 5.5 Kg over weight and Wins a Handicap Race.This horse rated 47 qualified to run in this class only because 40-52 rated horses were eligible to participate.Even then it was required to carry 49Kg after weights were raised by 1.5Kg.All in all it is an exception to the normal.My rating after the win is 71 and mapping it to Mrs Patmore race it can be assumed to be running at a virtual rating of 82 still a clear 3 Kg short of 88 the revised rating of Mrs Patmore.
Now decide for yourself.

The horse will carry the jockeys body weight so will not matter regards the running of the race. But as rightly pointed out by many no trainer should be allowed to declare a overweight jockey of more than 2kgs

So, you have a situation where this horse is running at 54 kgs, so basis this weight and the field, you have to decide whether it would win or loose and accordingly bet. There is nothing hidden here. So, punters are not in dark. Nothing wrong here.If it wins now, it surely becomes one of the strong contenders for derby. If it loses, it might not be entered in derby. But for this race, bet basis your logical sense, obviously, the intention of trainer is to win this race and win the derby. Whatever happens, we will know.

Dilip for that matter no one forces any one to for races.so why this argument.
There are certain norms for racing to be conducted and so far we have been following them. The entire Handicapping system is based on wt. carried by any horse.
If some one is breaking the rules aided by the club we have every right to point out the same.
This should be condemned by one and all, as this is not healthy racing

@JP, no one has forced you to back the horse. The punters are aware of the overweight PRIOR to the horse running and if they still decide to back, it is with the full knowledge of the extra weight so what are you making a big song and dance about.

As somebody has written that permission has been obtained for riding with 6 kilos over weight. I am surprised that RWITC authorities must be out of their minds in granting permission. In case the horse loses whether the trainer and RWITC will reimburse to all who had lost on betting this horse.
Be Safe incident is still fresh. The horse was declared as bleeder and was permitted to run before the stipulate period of ban and see what state the horse is now. I have seen horses running on two successive days, winning the previous day and carrying the stipulated penalty of 6-7 kilos in the same class next day and winning. If the trainer was so confident of the horse's calibre and guts he should have ran the horse on Sunday in the R.R.Ruia cup. For me it is going to be PALATIAL and VULCAN for SHP

Its a battle between Pesi and the handicapper. Worth watching this race today. As far as betting is concerned I suggest you should bet Vulcan or Palatial each way.

Pesi wants to try this horse for derby distance at close to the derby weight. So, pesi is confident of winning and is taking this as a prep run for derby. It will win, so you can either play win on this horse or place on any other horse.

Rules Of Racing clearly state that a rider can carry a maximum overweight of 3.5 kgs.
YS Srinath and Pesi should be fined for this declaration as it is a planned contravention of the Rules - what will stop other trainers from declaring jockeys from riding heavier than the declared weights ?
Rest assured that the Stewards of the Club will either scratch the horse or have Pesi replace the jockey. Either which way one must wait to see what transpires and then decide.

Please the video of the last race of Mathaiyus.
Sri. whipped him 4 times inspite of being good few lts, ahead.
Also see the horses he has beaten. It looks like Tom cruises mission impossible.
Will Pessi defy all odds.? Lots of clamour because as stated defies the rule book.

Permission has been taken from the club to carry 6kgs overweight which means Srinath will sit in the sweat box to loose that 1 kgs extra[min] or more ..
Either way this gimmick is purely for 2 reasons
Getting more than On money price or
Actually confirming his handicap disadvantage and letting it work against the horse for obvious reasons ..
what ever it may be , the trainer is bold to defy the handicapper and we will know the outcome tomorrow evening .

I am sure that there will be change of jockey for Mathayius with a silly reason "jockey indisposed". RWITC should scratch the horse and fine the trainer for declaring over weight jockey and then changing.

Change in Class, same weight(when it won last) & additional distance of 400Ms. & Overweight carried by jockey.All factors are against it even for a place bet.But you don't know what Pesibaba has in his head.
Fingers crossed but this has happened at RWITC earlier too & results are varying.
