The Temerity Of It All

By Confused P | 22-Jan-2017

The owners/trainer had the temerity of winning the 1000 G with Mrs Patmore, and now when the punters had the temerity to play Mrs Patmore, pat came their temerity to win via Temerity. Long live the temerity of the owners/trainers/RWITC office bearers. How long will the punters continue to punt with temerity ??

"We all know that racing is still in it's infancy in India". Let me just point out that there was racing in India before the first Epsom Derby was run.

"... the bracketing system would have been place long before". For every country that has bracketing, there are three countries of equal racing caliber that don't have bracketing.

Let us not sing praises for Temerity or any other horse or it's connections.the bottom line is that as punters we have to ensure that our money does not bite the dust.It is quite clear now that Temerity finished last in the race before 22/01/17 because she was reluctant to be stalled & tired herself.What is shocking that inspite of that Mrs,Patmore opened the favourite to win as Temerity was written off.We all know that racing is still in it's infancy in India,it was introduced to us by the Britishers & after them it has not progressed much in the hands of the Indian racing authorities.If it would have, then the bracketing system would have been in place long before.there are no press releases about the reasons for which any horse in a particular race falters.The ownership of horses is in the hands of a few who probably team up together and share the spoils amongst themselves at our cost.

So my dear friends in so much of mayhem, how are we to make money out of horses, classic or otherwise.

Friends,

A few points for consideration :

1.Temerity has run 7 times,won 5 races comfortably except for one race,where she won by 1/2 length in 1400m(F.D Wadia Trophy),lost her debut race and the 1000 G where she faltered badly while being stalled.In normal circumstances,she should have been withdrawn.The blame ,if any,should be the Senior Vet and the Starter,who allowed her to run,along with the public money.The professional that they are,should have known,the trauma and distress a horse undergoes,especially when it falters badly inside the stall.Allowing such a horse to run is inviting danger to both human and animal,besides giving a very unfair deal to all those who have backed the horse .(Please see Dr.Cyrus Poonawalla's interview in this site,whose family has probably contributed more to Indian racing than any other group or family.)Dr.Cyrus has strongly suggested that it should be the norm to withdraw such horses at the gate,as a lot of public money is at stake.Racegoers and other stake holders should bear upon all centres that this should be a strict rule that will be followed uniformly and without exception,and not arbitrarily as is the case now.Let us think of getting such a rule accepted by all centres,rather than engaging in futile blame game,that serves no purpose,other than scoring a few brownie points against one another.

2.Compare this performance with Mrs.Patmore or any other runner in this race,and Temerity's subsequent rest and track work,and race day report of it's last run,the winner would have been staring at us.Gentlemen,we all blinked.Let us accept it,so that we don't loose out on the next TEMERITY.

Brickbats are OK.

Thanks and Regards

@ ALL,

Apart from the points quoted by Dharmesh Ji and Ram , what most of the people missed is the favorite line so many times Dharmesh Ji posted in HT many months ago and repeated many times here : "Form is Temporary and Class is Permanent" and having said it is now more or less proved that the last assignment of Temerity was an accident which should be best ignored and look ahead as a Classic Material.......

Regarding the Doosras and Theesra's and now the Panchva's which mostly happen in Delhi and kolkata....(The origin of these is erstwhile south King) there are many many exponents here of that angle and we do get confused most of the times whether to follow the regular study pattern or the specific study of these trainers/owners combos....the least we discuss, we are atleast at some peace ...in this specific areas of this sport it is the clubs who should bring in regulations or else it will go on like this for the ages to come.

mind you Bharat singh had 5 in a pack of 9 in the kolkata 7th race and it is very very difficult to gauge with which one he will go.....Irony is RCTC or for that matter the respective clubs should have laid stringent norms for these biased entries of the trainers.....Yesterday Coldstream vs Shivalik's (John at Rs 238 Dividends) win in Bangalore ....AM in Bangalore and the Inayatullah episode can anyone forget in Bangalore summer......(whether there are 2 in front or 10 at Back, Castle still would have won by the same Margin of over 8 Lts in the above said Kolkata 7th race.....) ...The fact is Bharat destined it....

In general this sport has lost its charm like the RWITC saga.....certain things are destined and some are man Made....

Rest most of the experts like SFP..Dharmesh, BKD, Chanakya , Srinivasan, Raghavan Ji, Pradeep Ji and Many Many others have been regularly voicing thier opinions and Observations but that is restricted only to space provided in HT and it stays parked here...

Temerity is not a issue here at all...so lets rest the topic here at peace...

Regards

SK

I forgot to add,see the way Paramour lost and the answer is that the winning horse trainer had a winner today @ Kolkata with this jockey. See this jockey's ride on Paramour and Vice Admiral.This is present day racing, form, class, track and our study in picking up the horses becomes secondary.

@CRK,you are absolutely right as per your study and backing AR.Several knowledgeable people did the same based on its performance against SAA.But do present day racing take place accordingly. The connections have their own agenda and it turns out that way.Except Temerity's performance against In My Dream can anybody give a creditable performance of this horse? It ran against 4 or 5 mediocre horses but had the rating. The winning horse trainer has history of winning with doosras. The odds and the ownership made the difference for Temerity to win Mrs.P to sacrifice. I have said several times the horses owned and running in breeder's colours cannot be trusted for consistent performance.

Some of you ignoring few facts,

TEMP. opening odds [last race 18/10 closing odds 3.15 [Did the bookies dream that the horse will be unfit].

The problem with again most of us, wool over our eyes and we keep losing not seeing the game of the connections.

Let us not blame the trainer or the jockey, they are mere pawns.

@Ramiyer,

Right.

Point noted. Agreed that there are too many instances of horses with poor show in lead up races showing sparkling performance in big races.

For eg: Angel Dust!

@Pradeep: Thanks for your reply.

I have always found TEMERITY as a classic prospect and few HTians even criticised its victory when I gave it as my top pick against hot favourite In My Dream in F D Wadia trophy held in Pune on Aug 28. I totally agree with Ramiyer ji and for the same reason I fancied it for oaks. It was a classic race and BEST horse won there was nothing like Doosra aur teesra as some of them are thinking. TEMERITY was top rated and was favoured to win 1000 G whereas Mrs. PATMORE was inexperienced and in my view was stated as a false favourite for oaks. I'll just say that TEMERITY was unlucky in Indian 1000G and because of that one bad run she was offered at 6/1 by bookmakers and she deserved one more chance to prove her class and by winning the oaks she proved that she is the best filly in the country.

@Ramiyer,

Sir,

Am in complete agreement with you.A little in depth study would have revealed that Temerity was certified fit to race,in spite of the fact that she ducked inside the gate and after examination,the S.O certified her fit to race.After the race,she was observed to have suffered a cut injury on the right stifle.However it is also a fact that the jockey made no effort to ride out the horse to finish last,having probably assumed some problem in the horse.As is usual in the case,rumours spread among'st race goers that,at least for the time being,she should not be touched,ignoring the fact that the horse was tracking quite well,and also had sufficient time to heal from the minor injury.She was the best horse in the field,and we depended more on hearsay than a few more minutes of study to evaluate her chances.The odds only indicated our foolishness,more than the the trainer's or connections designs.The jockey being given the mount again only showed the connections confidence in his judgement and integrity.

Either we depend on our study or fall prey to unfounded rumours,the choice is ours to make.The fault is not in our stars;it is in our willful ignorance.

I played Aster Rose.My error of judgement,hence no regrets.We need to keep learning,don't we ?

Thanks and regards.

Dear Raghavan sir
Coming last in previous outing and next it is winning is not a new phenomena.It is the highest rated filly and it trounced the field.The grave mistake was done by the concerned authority when they allowed to run last time after ducking the gates numerous times.A hatricker is always better than two times winner patmore who is a bit inexperienced.I pity the people who lacks knowledge in racing and analysis and who are going hammer and tong against the horse and trainer.

@ raghavan,
Yes a small bet for win & good place bet on TEMERITY.
Today the classic picture has changed a lot & you just can't write off any horse just like that.

@Pradeep,

Right. Your earlier assessment was right whereas a good number of punters, including me had written off Temerity.

But, I desire one info. You need not reply if you are not inclined. I am curious; that is all.

Yesterday was there any bet from you on Temerity? If, yes, then my congratulations. It certainly requires double confidence and courage to bet on a horse that finishes last in the previous outing.

when Mrs Patmore was leading in the last stages of the race Trevor was not putting in the needed effort to win.Once Temerity overtook Mrs Pat, Trevor relaxed to let Temerity win .
when Pesi has more than one mount... a surprise is for sure
RWITC racing stinks

The bitter fact is that we punters sprout racing knowledge only after the white cone is hoisted. A post mortem is of not much use since our money is already down..
Most such forums are also widely viewed by all sections of our industry , and often is an easy target for manipulation such that horses selected for the coup/ manipulation can be fine tuned so that the flow for laying one horses and backing the other is easier. So all views published here have to be taken with a rider clause highlighting risks.

Pesi, like most other trainers, has started to revel in 'doosra-bajis' He has become a master in this heinous act, and dictates the proceedings on and off the field. The owners are fast becoming puppets on a string!

Unless..one trainer/one owner/single entry norms are implemented..such mischief will continue to recur.

Alternatively, if there is a trainer with multiple owners competing in the same race, all the wards must be bracketed into a single entity.

But who will bell the cat...the owners are the stewards and the stewards are the owners! What a paradox?

Well the point in question is why was Temerity allowed to face the starter last time when she was reluctant to enter the gates.My dear 'stop fooling punter' does not want to understand that wily trainers like P.Shroff take advantage of these situations to fool the public.This will continue until two or more horses of a trainer racing in the same race are not bracketed.I really must say this that RWITC authorities are being absolutely shameless & arrogant by not doing so.

On 11Th December '16, when I wrote an article- Was it a grave mistake to run TEMERITY one winning_punter & the Great Mad Max teased to ridicule by saying- TEMERITY- A Classic filly ? Someone else said that she has gone to dumps & will take long time to race.
Today she decimated the Oaks field after just 1 month & eleven days.
Enthusiasm is good but what about just bubbling enthusiasm of few?

In the Guineas Temerity was reluctant to be stalled and after entering it ducked and got struck in the gates. The horse was taken after delay and was permitted to run. The horse finished last. In RWITC if a horse is reluctant to stalling it is withdrawn if it is not stalled within 1 or 2 tries. Here the horse as fractious/reluctant to stall got struck and still made to run. Last Thursday(19th) one horse fell in the stall after loading and died. 3 other horses were examined and withdrawn. The race day report says UNFIT TO RACE. On what basis these three horses were declared not to race and what basis TEMERITY was declared fit to race. Today the trainer showed that he decides who should win which is how he has been doing always whenever he is entering more than 1 horse in the same race.Some may say about the rating. If you watch the race reply more than one you will understand.

Shroff has too many 'high profile' rich and influential owners in his 'bag'. he has to satisfy all of them. All of them want to win prestigious races. Shirke won 1000G, Ruia also has to win. He got Oaks.

Derby is the only race which can not be 'offered' on a platter - unless all the 'aces' are with the trainer...

Indian Derby should see a fight - better(pedigree-wise,performance, form) runner on that day will win...

Have you seen the movie Catch me if you can [L.D.Capri as hero].

Last run both horses Temerity opened 17/10 closing 3 .15 Mrs Patmore at 12 to 1 you know who won that day.

Today Mrs Patmore open at 16/10 closing 19/10 Temerity at 6.5

I had given the same owners El volie at 20to 1 so it was clear that only Temp . will be tried.
Second Indication Neeraj rawal their retained jockey of DH and V SHIRKKE not given any winning mount of their horses.
So thanks to these owners got a winner at 6.5 .well done sir.
This is MUM racing the slogan [CATCH ME IF YOU CAN]

You are indeed one confused punter. Temerity was the best handicapped horse in the 1000g, and but for the unfortunate incidence, would have won it as easily as it won today. Suggest you to take some lessons in professional handicapping, mate !
