Concentration On The Horse

By Mann Esh | 24-Jan-2017
Is it affordable to take off your concentration from the horse when you are on the horse back?

From the video of the Kolkata race where 3 jockeys had a fall it can be observed that TS Jodha looked back, later got imbalanced from his seat, landed on the horse's neck and went down after the horse could not bear the weight on his neck which ultimately caused the spill.

Is it not possible that if the Jockey had not looked back he could balance better in spite of the fact that horse must have stumbled lightly?

Important lesson for all the young and budding Jockeys out there.

From the video it appears as though King Credible is a very hard going horse. You can see the jockey struggling to keep it in check after they jump out and the horse appears to be running through the bit. I would imagine that the intention of the jockey was to take a sit behind the leader in an attempt to get his horse to settle, in an attempt to see out the !400m trip. Jodha was looking back to ensure he had enough room to slot in behind the leader. However, it appears as though his horse clipped heels just as the leader momentarily slowed down the pace in front causing Kind credible and the horses ehind him to fall. All in all it appears that the racing manners (and lack of brakes) on King Credible was eventually responsible for the accident. The jockey didn't appear to do anything wrong. Perhaps the biggest error in judgement was on part of the connections in trying to run him over 1400m. In retroscpect they might have been better off sticking to the 1200m races where he could be allowed to stride freely and find the front as he did when he won.
