Mobile cum entry charges reduced by RWITC Committee in a major decision
Posted on - 23 Jan 2017

In a major policy decision, the RWITC Committee announced a compulsory levy of Rs 200 for Members of the Club for entry (including a mobile phone) into the members enclosure, Rs 500 as entry cum phone for guests entering the members enclosure, and Rs 150 as a voluntary mobile phone charge in the public enclosure.

“This will encourage more visitors, better compliance, and our calculations show, increased revenue for the Club. It is an experiment, whose time has come, and we will judge the figures to decide its continuation after a few weeks. We have many lifestyle days covering food and fashion, besides evening racing, and we hope this will be a big boost, as high mobile charges were a deterrent” said Vivek Jain, RWITC Chairman.

The RWITC Committee announced, this will be tried on experiment basis, and if the move results in a fall in revenue, the decision will be reviewed at any time.

The new charges, which will be the same for off course race days, will come into effect from Saturday, 4th February 2017.

A much needed step taken by the Club to try and increase footfalls and increase revenues. This step should be able to bring the die hard racing fans back to the course to some extent.

All the best to support to the sport we all love.

A very sensible move.
The day take(commission + tax) is brought down to reasonable level- around 10% the footfalls will increase 3 to 5 fold and tote turnover may increase to 4 to 5 times.
The club can guarantee an annual tax payment to state government, a little more than the average of last 3 years and reduce its commission to 2-5% for sometime.

If Bangalore Turf Club can do it and increase its turnover from 100 crore to 1200 crore within a decade why can't RWITC do it?

Next, they should provide free WiFi in the racecourse. Let's be user-friendly, RWITC.

When one can buy a smartphone with good features starting from 2 k to 5 k why should anyone pay the same amount to use a phone inside the race course. Either he keeps it in the vehicle before entering or hide the same and not declare while entering. One should realise a phone is used to receive or make calls in cases of emergency which clubs are asking people to pay. Yes those who bet with outside bookies will want to pay to use. Apart from that Whatsap is the order of the day. Why should anyone pay a rupee when we are already paying entrance fee. So does RWITC expect footfalls to increase 10 fold with this idea.
