No, no, no, I would never say that the races are run on merit.
Races are rigged and so are IPL matches.
Horse-races in every continent in the world are fixed. The percentage of fixed races would vary as also the methods of fixing. In U.K., U.S.A and Australia, a lot of Indian jockies/trainers/ owners would have been disbarred from racing or even jailed, were they to operate like they do in India.

LONG SHOTS and BIG PAY OUTS increased TDS Deduction and now Income Tax has no complaints against race clubs. Earlier it was almost NIL TDS deduction (except some pools) on Win/Place - suddenly it has increased beyond any estimation. Now RWITC or any other race clubs do not require to give any fixed guarantee money to IT Department. In the present scenario IT department is becoming richer and richer day by day.

You are telling gambling owners are not wanting to exert their horses? Same statement I have made in another way in my earlier post. Gambling owners are not trying their wards, however their horses are becoming favourites and fail regularly. CAN YOU SAY GAMBLING OWNERS NOT LAYING THEIR FAVOURITES WITH BOOKIES and not making money. IF YOU HAVE BHOOK (HUNGRY) THEN HOOK (PULL) YOUR FAVOURITES.

Hunter total 166 races, only 11 on-money (Odds: Less than Even) favourites won. That itself prove 'IF THE HORSE BECAME FAVOURITE, IT WILL LOOSE THE RACE). Can you say the races are run on merit...?

The club earns maximum when a favourite wins, as they don't distribute paise to us. For example, if the favourite is 14/- for a tenner, and at the last minute someone wagers ten thousand rupees, the dividend should show 13-90, but the tote shows only 13/-. So 90 paise per ticket goes to the club. This is for a single race.

You have raised several issues, the prominent ones being:

A) Tote Ticket Punching Scandal: Rumours have been swirling around for quite some time about tickets being punched in the Computer Room after race-start or after running of the race at Mumbai, Pune and Delhi race-courses. These are unfounded allegations and in the absence of evidence, they shall remain only that - allegations.

B) Effect of Demonetization on Indian Racing: There have been far-reaching consequences. You have seen bookies being shunted out of BTC. In my reading, due to shortage of cash, the betting by big-time operators now lacks depth. So, gambling owners are unable to back or lay their horses up to the desired amounts. So, they are taking time-out. Hence, less odds-on favourites winning. On account of these gambling owners not wanting to exert their horses, who wins the races? Non-gambling big owners or small owners - obviously at decent odds.

Things are not as cut and dried, my friend, as you make them out to be. There are many variables here and I think our more knowledgeable colleagues in HT can throw more light.

P.S. - Here's a riddle for you. While paying out the winnings, no bookie in DRC hands out Rs. 500 notes. Why?

Both your tips went for a humongous toss. You must have bled rather heavily today, take care mate, and avoid going just by your astrological calculations. I am afraid they will take you nowhere. Instead try to take some handicapping lessons, is my advice to you.

Before replying to your query, please note in pari-mutual (this para has been copied from Wikipedia) betting system all bets of a particular type are placed together in a pool; "Govt taxes" and the "Club's commission" are removed, and payoff dividends are calculated by sharing the pool among all winning bets.

How race clubs make money from a pari-mutual betting tote you asked? Interesting question. To reply adequately, I have to take RCTC Tote for example. They are investing Rs.1,00,000 each in win pool of all races to attract the punters. If the club has framed 8 races for the day, they are investing Rs 8 Lakhs to Win pools. From where they get this much money every race day, if there is no income. And tell me, if any club is investing their money on tote, why not they expect profit out of it? Definitely that is my point. Definitely race clubs are making money from the tote. How, for which I have no idea, we can only speculate.

1. If the clubs have a tacit understanding with the trainers or owners, few races can be framed for the club. After all now a days, races are framed for No-WHIP jockeys, 5 years old and over horses also.

2. In return Race Clubs can give Full Freedom to trainers and owners, no enquiry for in and out racing, or for pulling favourites. In such a scenario, trainers and owners can LAY their favourites with bookies without any fear.

3. Race Clubs can insist trainers don't try fancied runners at majority of times. You may laugh it off after reading such statements. I just raised my doubt, how they do it I don't know? After all everyone needs money. Race Clubs and the MEN at the HELMS of AFFAIRS are no exception.

4. Whether it is Rs.500, or Rs 2000 or Rs 4000 or 6000 dividends paid against a tenner, Clubs declare winners, win and place pools never carried over, have you every heard these pools ever carried over? (Remember all other pools carry over when there are no winning tickets).

5. Even if no punters punched such Long shots, the tote software can automatically recognize such horses and punch few tickets for the Race Clubs before the race starts. So if a long shot horse wins, the entire booty may go to the race club's kitty.

6. It is also possible to hack a locked software system. Every day we read these websites hacked, their websites hacked, etc. etc. So chances are there, tickets can be punched after the results also.

(1) Now see the Kolkata Dividends paid during the last FOUR RACE DAYS, it is to impress upon you to ratify my theory - that Race Clubs can make money if long shots are regularly dashing the hopes of ordinary punters.

I don't see how the club gets enriched if more outsiders win. The tote operates on commission basis. The club will retain it's commission and distribute the rest amongst winning ticket-holders. The club's pay-out is not affected by who wins. If favourite wins then there are more ticket-holders and the dividend is low. And if an outsider wins, then there are less winning ticket-holders and so the dividend is higher.

Race no.4 House of commons may not win butMiss Moneypenny in race no. 6 can win.
