Zareer Darashah - Desciplined Soldier

By Dr Jagannath M R | 21-Feb-2017

Dear sir,
Cyrus Madan has given a fitting tribute to legend with his article, yes truly the track, weighing room and office will be silent after he hangs his boots. Zari was always desciplined whether his training, saddling, office work. He never missed his track work, he would be there at five past thirty at the track asking his first lot to work.2000 wins and over is a difficult to task to achieve by any standards probably it will take a long time for sure for another legend to go pass him. Zari wishing you all the best for your future , god bless

Dear Sirs,

Here we are talking about a man who has gracefully retired after doing his personal best. We all know as a man grows old his skills diminish. Please remember that in his heydays he plundered the racing grounds with many wins so no wins at the end of his career is not a blemish on his record. It probably is the reason for us to lose such an inspiring gentleman.

Here we are talking about a mans lifetime work. And Mr. Darashah's achievements in Indian racing have been quite a bit which very few in the industry can compete with.

He has been graceful, in retiring on his own without anyone asking or forcing him to. So gentlemen if you cant say a good word about a retired man kindly do not speak harshly as one day each of us will have to call it a day. And each of us on that day would want to be spoken with a little bit of respect.

Thank you.

MyRC did a commendable job yesterday and gave a great send off to Trainer Z Darashah.

Wishing him a good retired life.

Wish the other trainers made him win a race on his last day.

It is sad to see that we are double faced in racing.
If a fav loses we keep shouting from the rooftop but a trainer who took punters for a ride in the last one year[I counted 8 failed favs not a single winner as fav].Last day not a sinlge one on board.
As BKD says he has passed on his legacy to his son ,who is just carrying on where he is leaving.

Let us be frank and not sing unwarranted praises of the past and let us live in the present. If we keep avoiding harsh truth, we can never come to terms with the real face of current racing.

It's sensible that Darashah Sr. has retired now, after longish although a chequered innings.

Wishing him the very best in his future endeavours.

But for his son, who is one amongst the rogue trainers, and who should be counselled to mend his ways. He professes to be a gentleman but has the guise and the guile of a modern day Mr Hyde.

@ Admin,

I think Mrs Darasha passed away 6 years back (?). But in the article by Cyrus Madan says they are married happily for the last 45 years. Admin, please confirm what is the truth?

@Anilxk

Zareer's wife Mrs. Linda Darashah is alive and was at the Mysore Races this afternoon. Perhaps you are referring to Zareer's mother who passed away some years ago.

Nice to see a fitting tribute opened by none other than Dr Jagannath.
My immediate memory comes into my mind are Gullane who held some records till recently and Hope and faith, Syphony of fire.Another horse something with the name of Rose I dont remember exactly ,owned by S rangarajan ridden by burning jockey K.P.G.Appu who was described by senior punters at the race course when I was a novice. Now a days most of the trainers never comes to the early morning workouts, where as inpast Dhariwal Byramji, along with Darashah all legends in their proffession used to do so.Even I woner some of the present trainers even came near to the animal or seen their ward very close till it is paraded in the paddock.
It would have been appreciated more had he hung up his boot before six years or so.Despite the privelage of having some top jockeys including the Appu, Trevor, suraj, Srinath, in the last few years his record at mysore damaged his reputation of the very champion record holder trainer at Mysore.Anyhow I never seen a trainer at this age so vibrant.
All the best to him.

Hi Sir,
It has been more than a decade that I have not spoken to you, but hope to see you in near future. First of all, wish you a happy and healthy retired life with your family. It has been a pleasure working under you as an assistant for 5 years. You taught me from the grassroot level of racing and I am thankful for that. Hope you have success in all your future endeavors. All the best.

On 22nd of this month vetran Trainer Z.Darashah is retiring from Training. He is soft nature and trained many horses in his period. I remember on a Morning
races in Mysore all the five races in a card of seven won by Darashah ridden
by Warren Singh. KPG Apu was his favourite jockey. Now his sone Neil has taken
over and he is also considerably doing well in Bangaluru and Mysuru. God Bless this Senior Man and his family for their well being.

Few years back i was appalled to see a horse trained by him tested positive on drugs three times in a row, any other bloke any other country would be out of turf club forever but not here, and then there is this endearing parsi thing which we never understand, the angst only "Prince" Charles shares

A gentleman full of life is a one line description of the Legend Zareer Darashah. It has been my pleasure to see him each morning at the race course. The thought of not seeing him first thing in the morning will definitely leave a huge void.

Sir, wish you all the best for the best for your next innings.

I cant forget Zareer trained Symphony of Fire in the Sprinters Cup in Chennai in 2001.

It played in the paddock and Zareer went up to her and held her for sometime and she responded by getting relaxed.

Rest was history she won at 10 to 1 beating Simply Noble easily.

Zareer would give steady winners in his heydays.A true champion, wish him well

It's true that Zareer Darashah is a living legend, having trained some of the best horses in the country. But he too played the 'doosras' with Warren Singh and K P G Appu as 1 and 2 jockeys, disappointing the punters so much during the early '90s. I am also of the view that he should have called it a day long before, instead of languishing in Mysuru for many years, without actually being in the limelight. Hope his son Neil benefits the most from his experience. Wish him all the best!
