Ruffina On Top Of All In Pbmm

By Mad Max | 26-Feb-2017
The sponsors The Poonawalla Family have already won 1 PBM (Her Excellency in 1999 along with co-owners G.Essaji and Shapoor Mistry) and 1 PBMM (Haunting Memories in 2006 as a co-owner with Late Dr. MAM Ramaswamy).

As usual, this time also they are in partnership with others, Saleem Fazalbhoy, and Dinsha/Munchi Shroff, but the majority shares of the main contender RUFFINA are with the Poonawallas. Why Ruffina is being talked about is, this filly has been bred at late Mrs. Cyrus C. Poonawalla's stud farm, i.e. Villoo's Greenfields Stud Farm. The Farm House was renovated and decorated by Sussan Khan (ex-wife of Hrithik Roshan) last year, is the home for Adar Cyrus and Natasha Adar family and their guests, dignitaries etc. For the last few years the stud farm was hardly in the business, however now they have resumed serious breeding activities.

RUFFINA decimated the opposition in Gool S.Poonawalla Million in an almost record breaking time of 69.80 seconds over 1200m (Record is in the name of Amadeus 69.62 seconds). Ruffina is being saddled by Dallas Todywalla, who saddled three winners in the past, 1994 Brave Hunter, 2003 Secret Romeo, and Blurr in 2004.

This year the fight is seriously in between two Stud Farms - Poonwallas vs. Manjri, in other words, between the progenies of two sires Excellent Art Vs. Phoenix Tower. For records, Excellent Art has 2 sons and 2 daughters in the fray, whereas Phoenix Tower has 3 sons and 2 daughters. So it is going to be interesting who fills the exacta numbers behind RUFFINA...?

Satish Narredu (Forest Fantasy 1997), Mallesh Narredu (Lei 1996, Indiscretion 1998, Fedora 2005), both together won 4 PBMMs, it is to be seen how their next generation - Suraj Narredu - fairs today with Tutankhamun, owned by none other than Shapoor Mistry & others. When you are talking about Phoenix Tower progenies, we cannot forget the most improved horse AWESOME HOOVES with master craftsman YS Srinath on the saddle, should be in the finish, hopefully.

Most successful owner in the PBM/PBMM was late Dr.MAM, who won this trophy in 2001, Noble Opinion, 2002 Priceless, 2003 Secret Romeo, 2006 Haunting Memories, 2007 Broubon King, and 2013 Murioi. His trust is fielding Perfect Star and Angels Touch, with PSC up on Perfect Star all moods vanished; Karthik should have given this mount to Sandesh instead. Nevertheless it wont finish in first three.

My final Choice: RUFFINA (Clear Winner).

@ Larry,

Race No5 ,I would be obliged if you could show me the calculations of the fractional timings, which led you to choose Adeline over Z'delle. My choice was Grey Flannel in Win only.

Thanks.

@Larry,

Good observation and reasoning, also helps in forthcoming races too. As for critics, not necessary to give much importance, ignoring would help.

Thanks and all the best.

@larry,
I really was impressed by your write-ups,i hope you continue to do so in future.though I don't follow anyone for choices in horse talk,i love to read about people trying to give reasons for their choices.which I feel is the most difficult task, which most of them won't have an idea.
I see nowadays even people like dharmesh have resorted to just giving their choices, sans reasons.
I just hope if the same trend continues this site won't serve good to anyone, unless people follow blindly someone of their choice.

@jklm
What was that,mate?
I sure was there, and had a great day.Made a killing on the two bets I was strongest on - Do go through my post again to find out which ones I'm referring to. A 2K roll at 3.5 and 1.5 fetched me a cool 22,500, and you're hoping I didn't go...LOL.
It's people like you who are hugely responsible for regular contributors like me to shy away from this forum.
If you can't contribute, stay mum, pal, or else, show us what you have to offer.

My views for today's races.

Race 1 - The Champ
As a rule, I do not fancy horses running in class I for the first time,

hence my choice here is restricted to only the top 2, and then, going by

Glen O'Brien's theory, that of 1400m specialists, considering RDU's

record of 1 win in 14 runs over the distance, as compared to The Champ's

2/3 record makes THE CHAMP a good bet for me to start my day.

Race 2 - Keep Coming On/Forest Fairy
No doubt Benefactor is the odds on favorite, with cramped odds, however

I have a feeling that this horse can get beaten today, and the ones who

could create a flutter are KCO & FF.
KEEP COMING ON, with excellent sprint numbers on the pedigree chart is

my first choice, followed by Forest Fairy, purely because I never ignore

a horse that has Razeen showing up in the lineage.

Race 3 - Respect/Geranium
It's a toss up between these two.

Race 4 - Angels Touch - Autocratic/Awesome Hooves/Ruffina
I've seen some excellent pedigree numbers for both Angels Touch and

Autocratic, and I'm sure these two will reach the highest level very

soon. If only Autocratic had been tracked, he would've been my first

choice, but since he's an outstation horse, with no tracks, I'd be very

strong on ANGELS TOUCH.
Both, Autocratic, and Awesome Hooves have displayed excellent fractional

timings over the last furlong in their last races, as compared to

Ruffina, and so, even though she's the one everybody's raving about, I

prefer the other three to finish ahead of her.

Race 5 - Adeline
My initial toss up was between Zinfandelle, Adeline, and Grey Flannel,

strictly in that order, however, on working out timings, my choice has

changed moved over to ADELINE from Z'delle.
Adeline, in race#163, when compared to Dancing Prances (rated 115), who

ran on the same day, is about 12 lts inferior, whereas Z'delle

(race#148), when compared to Danny Crane(rated 92), is 9 lts inferior,

and my calculations, based on the above findings tell me that ADELINE is

far superior.

Race 6 - Chizzler
One horse race for me.
Miss Saigon, Carbonara, Pink Panther, and Chizzler have run on the same day, and if I compare the timings, Chizzler is well past the post, moreover, I always respect a horse that wins a debut race over 1400, so this one is my banker for the day.

Race 7 - Greek Goddess/Allora
Have a toss up between the two. Will just take both in my JP/SJP, and play a bit on GREEK GODDESS at race time.

I've posted after a very long time, and I hope you guys didn't find it just dragging along.
Truly miss the days when we had many who used to post their observations, however, I don't seem to see them posting lately. I hope they're all well. Miss you guys, I'm sure, you all know who I am referring to.

My racing activities have come down to a bare minimum these days due to work commitments, and hence I'm not regular, but I'll definitely post on days when I'm feeling strong about my choices.

It would be highly un-sportmanship of the sponspors, the Poonawalla's family, having entered their horse, and if they do not allow it to run on it's merits.

Pl. do not get a bad name to this great horse nor it's foreign jockey. Opportunities like this comes once in a lifetime.

Let Rufffina run on it's own merit, ir-respective of the results.

Ruffina Races Won

Race 64: 6+4 = 10: 1

Race 137: 1+3+7 = 11: 1+1 = 2

Today Running

Race 192: 1+9+2 = 12: 1+2 = 3

So it says Three in a ROW...

it has to beat RUFFINA

Bkd said ...

I think AWESOME HOOVES is awesome in this batch! Clearly among the top-2.

It had toyed with BENEFACTOR in his last outing; while Benefactor is a piping hot favourite(40p) in one of the races today.

RUFFINA can be EATEN until one becomes satiated!
TUTANKHAMUN will finish much above her!

Please understand, Poonawalla Million is not for Poonawallas for sure.
Maybe, another race, or another day for the sponsors.

Cheers!

Welcome Chanakaya for before race good comments.
Why I chose T over her is her Dam of Ruffina has produced sprinters only.

I am sure Malesh would have helped cure his brothers horse habit of drifting.Last win near outer rails.

I only hope there is no hidden horse here to win.

I have given my reasoning in PBM column .
No doubt She won very well still a race is a race and rs 90 lakhs is lots of stake money.
My choice T''MUN for win.
Welcome back Godzilla hope you are keeping fit now.

Ruffina has sprinter's blood and is more suited to sprints and may go upto a mile, while Tutankhamun will be better over a mile and above...

The race is between the two and Ruffina has a clear edge over this distance...

I agree. Ruffina belongs to Class I. Unless the connections have other intentions, hard to beat.
