Back to listsJuvenile Fillies & Colts Championship Grade.3
By Mad Max | 19-Mar-2017
Sunday attraction is The Forbes Breeders Juvenile Fillies Championship and The Shapoorji Pallonji Breeders' Juvenile Colts' Championship (Grade.3) races to be run at Mahalaxmi this evening. Unlike in The Poonawalla Breeders Multi Million where the fight was between 5 Excellent Art and 5 Phoenix Tiger progenies, these grade-3 events have more entries from other stud farms bred horses and hence both the races are wide open.
Race No.1
1-1: Vulcan-LAY
1-2: Geranium-WIN
Vulcan finished close third to Mathaiyus over 2400m in Class-II proved he can stay the trip. But I think the top weight may pose the problem?. In both of his wins earlier no HIGH HEELS were used on his legs. Now High Heels are used on Hind Legs. Geranium won identical trip with more weight but a very mediocre set of animals, but getting 4.5 kg from Vulcan, so it has the chance to repeat.
Race No.2
1-3 Brahmachari-Upset (No Odds)
1-1 Your Royal Majesty-Win (18/10)
1-2 Dancing Prances-LAY (2-1/2 to 5/1)
The above TWO HORSES finished DEAD HEAT in the SAME RACE last year at Mahalaxmi, only difference is now Dancing Prances is being ridden by Imran Khan - so far a flop at Mahalaxmi - instead of Sandesh. Your Royal Majesty now giving two kgs to Dancing Princess, but his run in Sprinter Cup is puzzling where HRM finished well ahead on equal terms. Her Royal Majesty clocked 82.84 (55 Kg) seconds in Suresh Mahindra Multi Million in Mumbai was only 0.14 seconds slower than the record holder Hachiko (50.5 Kg), so on present form Your Royal Majesty is the horse to beat. In case of any upset, it should be BRAHMACHARI who carried 6.5 kgs more and beaten Paramour (51.5 kgs) by 2-1/4 lengths, whereas Celtic Prince and (52 kg) beaten Paramour (51 kg) by 3-1/4 lengths. On weight analysis Rule Downunder is better than Celtic Prince.
3rd Race:
3-3 Selfie Star-Win (3/1)
3-4 Summer Rays-LAY (2-1/2)
3-6 Themis - LAY (2-1/2)
Selfie Star drifted badly in Caprisca's race that cost the grey the debut race. Selfie Star is a well built and well bred, unlike her half sister Silver Beauty a small built horse, so I expect vast improvement now. Main threat will come from Summer Rays who ran in two Million Races, finished 9-1/4 lengths behind Ruffina. Themis got a clear run inside the rails that gave her the second spot, is not in my calculation now.
4th race:
4-1 IRISES-Win
4-6 Smasher-Upset (No Odds)
4-2 Trombone-LAY (3/1)
IRISES is hundred times better than Trombone who was a surprise winner in last outing. Well bred Smasher is making a late debut after giving some impressive track trials is the one to be noted.
5th race:
5-7 TIMELESS-Win
Timeless cmes into the calculation on the strength of his late finish behind Ruffina (6-1/4 lengths), despite having a weak jockey on this turf.
6th race:
6-5 Alfredo-Win
6-6 Baryshnikov-LAY
6-10 Speedo-Upset
On present form Alfredo comes into the reckonings. At weight Speedo can upset. Baryshnikov is the best to lay this time, badly need this run. Romantic Lass has a remote chance on last year win with same weight 61.5 that of today. What happened to Gullfoss, earlier trained by Zadmal Singh beaten Shining Melody, by 3-1/4 lengths, the later (Shining Melody) went on to win this very race (J.Rusomji Soparivala Trophy last year) in its next race. Gullfoss is now running without any SHOES, really it has some serious problems on his legs/hooves.
7th race:
7-3 Firenze-LAY
Very open race, in which Allegra, Kiss From a Rose, Armando, Western Lights, and Secret Flame may shine.
Day's Best:
Your Royal Majesty & Timeless
