The A.c. Ardeshir Trophy (grade-3)

By Mad Max | 09-Apr-2017
The A C Ardeshir Trophy (Grade 3)
Terms Race for Horses, 4 years old and over.

(a) Weight for 4 years old, 48.5 kg;
(b) Weight for 5 years old and over, 50 kg.
(c) Allowance 1.5 Kg to Fillies

Penalty Clauses:- After April 30th 2014,
(1) Winner of a Grade 3 race or a race of value Rs. 5 lakhs or over (other than a Graded Race), 1.5 kg. Or of 2 or more such races, 2 kg

(2) Or of a Grade 2 race or a race of value Rs. 10 lakhs or over (other than a Graded Race), 3 kg. Or of 2 or more such races, 4 kg

(3) Or of a Grade 1 race or a race of value Rs. 20 lakhs or over (other than a Graded Race), 6 kg. Or of 2 or more such races, 8 kg

(4) Additional Penalties : After 30th April 2016, winner of a race of value Rs. 5 lakhs or over 2 kg.

(5) If the top weighted acceptor is below 59 kg., it shall be raised to 59 kg and the weights of other acceptors shall be raised relatively.

As per the above declared terms in the Prospectus, the basic weight of four horses should be as follows:

1. B FIFTY TWO-50 KG (5 YR GELDING)
2. JACK FROST -50 KG (6 YEAR GELDING)
3. MRS.PATMORE-48.5 KG – ALLOWANCE =47 KG (4 YEAR OLD FILLY)
4. LONDON-48.5 KG (4 YEAR OLD COLT)

WEIGHT RAISED IS ONLY 4 KG., IT MEANS THE PRESENT WEIGHT AS PER THE TERMS SHOULD BE AS FOLLOWS:

1. B FIFTY TWO-59-4 KG RAISED = 55 KG
2. JACK FROST -59-4 KG RAISED = 55 KG
3. MRS.PATMORE-59-4 KG RAISED = 55 KG
4. LONDON-52.5 KG-4 KG RAISED = 48.5 KG

NOW LOOK AT THE PENALTIES GIVEN TO EACH HORSES BY THE OFFICIAL HANDICAPPER;
1. B FIFTY TWO-50 + 5 KG = 55 KG
2. JACK FROST -50 + 5 KG = 55 KG
3. MRS.PATMORE-47+8 = 55 KG
4. LONDON = 48.5 KG (NO PENALTY)

NOW I ANALYZE THE PENALTIES ARE WHETHER IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS ADVERTISED IN THE PROSPECTUS BELOW:

1. B FIFTY TWO won a Race valued above Rs 5 Lakhs only once, hence 1.5 Kg, (26.03.2016 – Jacqueline Double Stakes). Refer Penalty Clause-1 above.

2. It won a Grade 2 Race on 12.2.2017 – The Eclipse Stakes of India valued over Rs. 10 Lakhs), hence 3 Kg Penalty (Refer Penalty Clause-2 above).

3. Now Add the Penalties to basic weight 50 Kg + 1.5 Kg + 3 Kg = 54.5 Kg. But it is running with 59 Kg, it means the Weight Raised is 4.5 Kg, not 4 Kg as published in the Race Card? RWITC Handicapper should answer this question.

4. RWITC Handicapper should answer one more question why B.Fifty Two has not been penalized 2 Kg as per the penalty clause-4 above, as it won a race valued over Rs.5 Lakhs after 30th April 2016, i.e. precisely on 12.02.2017. Why I insist this Penalty on B Fifty Two because the official handicapper has added this 2 Kg penalty to Mrs. Patmore. Explained more against Mrs. Patmore below.

5. In the case of JACK FROST, it has won Gr.3 The Southern Command Trophy (Gr.3) on 13.09.2015 and incurred 1.5 Kg penalty as per penalty clause-1 above, and 3 Kg. Penalty as per Penalty Clause-2 above, since it won C.N.Wadia Gold Cup (Gr.2). So its weight should have been 50+1.5+3 = 54.5 Kg, however it is running today with 59 kg, it means total weight raised is 4.5 Kg and not 4 Kg as published in the Race Card.

6. Mrs. Patmore basic weight is 48.5 Kg – Allowance 1.5 kg = 47 Kg. It won 1000 Guineas in Mumbai this season (a Grade 1 Race) hence it has got 6 Kg Penalty as per Penalty clause-3 above. Since this win was after 30th April 2016, it has got additional penalty of 2 Kg as per penalty clause-4 above. So it got total penalty 47+6+2 = 55 Kg. This penalty has not applied to B FIFTY TWO for unknown reasons? Why? Surprisingly only 4 Kg raised at acceptance stage to Mrs Patmore. Once again the official handicapper made the goof up.

7. LONDON has not won any graded race or any race valued over Rs. 5 lakh, so it is running with basic weight of 48.5 Kg + 4 Kg weight raised.

Note:
B FIFTY TWO – 2 Kg penalty waived off by the handicapper, it shows it is clearly ahead of JACK FROST in this race. So this horse is in the FIGHT today, WITH MRS. PATMORE possibly the RUNNER-UP berth is in his custody, if not an upset.

MRS. PATMORE – Grade -1 Winner this season over the present distance should win this race easily.

LONDON – In the Indian Derby Mrs Patmore 152.68 and Germanicus clocked 152.82. In the Hyderabad Derby Germanicus clocked 149.15 and London clocked 150.07 (4-3/4 lengths behind), so it is clear MRS.PATMORE is better despite giving 6.5 Kg to London.

Only question is whether B.FIFTY TWO can upset Mrs. Patmore ? In racing anything possible, Mrs. Patmore should not break level, Loses few lengths at the start, breaks a blood vessel, becomes lame, in such cases B FIFTY TWO can win this race.

Note: Races are not run according to my whims and fancies. But it is a fun to study and present the facts naked in front of you all.

SELECTIONS:
MRS. PATMORE-WIN
B FIFTY TWO - UPSET

Best lay of the season. Good result third for a horse who beat Mekong Delta who finds it difficult to place in open company. Over rated crap.

GG - Patmore out handicapped as you said was evident on the card itself - show's in the rating- even though the horse was running well only thing to do was go against Patmore - backing 2 or all 3 against was the right thing to do -in short if one had to bet should have been a lay bet or leave alone race!

I backed Mrs. Patmore and lost.

During whole race i never find P. Trevor riding to win the race. Even in final 150 meter he was relaxed just completed a ride.

In my opinion he was not on job or connection not tried. If a horse well rested beaten Derby winner horse at same distance with 57 Kg , what went wrong today that zest to finish was missing.

I lost 5500 and came out of racecourse. I think it should be mandatory to try horse to win if entered to race.

Trevor whipped Mrs Patmore heavily shows an unfit horses for the big race.I said the race belonged to Shoopor With London at 8s and 2.5 place it was clear which one is bieng tried.Got 3.8 on B fify two shot to 4.1 closing 38/10..London ran a good race much more than expected and may pick up a race next week end

However the most impressive horse was Jack FRost who lost [Thank you sandesh] due to once again wrong judge ment of the pace BY HIM.

It is high time trainers need to think twice befoer giving him good mounts, unless they want failed Favs.

Once again form horses won. Fanatasy star ran like a dud and the last 3 horses on board all came.

@Golden Girl,

Seeing you post after a long interval. Welcome back. Fine selection. Even though only 4 in the field.

@Mad Max,

Analysis was good. However my fancy also was Mrs Patmore, and a toss up b-52 & JF disputing for 2nd place. It is real bad luck that Jack Frost came with telling strides when the race was almost over and denied Mrs P, even runner up slot.

Congrats to all who backed the winner!

Today i lost 35k on Mrs patmore, generally I play 5k-10k,but today after seeing Mad max post,my trust on mrs patmore raised to high levels, but i think Trevor did his best, just the horse was outclassed by Bfifty two.

Bad day for me.

Post race comments:

Mrs. Patmore was looking dull in the paddock, and the effort of the rider on it was only upto 60%. Look Trever's riding in the first and second races, definitely the connections took it lightly. His half hearted attempt failed to get the second spot also. Dont ask what I played in this race. Honestly it was not Mrs Patmore, it was not either B52, I Played Jackfrost xxshp only because of certain antics of its rider.

RWITC has started again the trick of hiding fancied horses, from paddock to starting stalls they are now showing the dud horses. I accuse all the major jockeys are showing positive or negative signals that is the reason the club is not showing their mounts on live streaming.

Another important thing for discussion is, why the prospective winners are taken straight away to starting stalls without parading in the paddock. This is a new trick of the trainers and the club is dancing to trainers tune. Yesterday it was Multiglory (won), today Jager Bomb (won), Ladislaus (lost by Nose) all three ridden by Trevor. I know why this is happening. I will expose the culprits let the summer season starts. Is it not a paradoxy, winning horses of certain jockeys or trainers are not allowed to parade in the paddock, why this hidden agenda? What is the Clubs' take on this issue? Wait and watch !

To me to think beyond MrsPatmore is meaningless and futile. But at cramped odds it's not worth.Anything more than 75/100 I will pour all my money on it.

I may be wrong but penalties as per Terms of a Terms Race do not mean that the horses have actually earned those penalties by their caliber. It only a way to see that a horse which won more stake money is put at a disadvantage so that other horses have a chance. This type of analysis may lead to wrong conclusions.
I will analyse the race and post my selection a little while from now.

@ Mad Max

I appreciate your analytical skill of the race. The amount of time you spent on analysis The A.C. Ardeshir Trophy (Grade-3)is useful only if Mrs Patmore wins with good odds. Otherwise you brain power is exhausted without any return. You have so many races to analyse in different races and also in different race tracks. According to me the waste of time. There are so many race analytical tools like Horse weight, Ratings, weight carried by the horse, distances for the horse, jockeys etc. These are all brain power exhausting tools. Think of some innovative technique to pick a winner.Thanks.

@ Mad Max,

Theoretically, a neat exercise with all the loopholes identified!

Yet, horse racing follows no rules....we all agree to that. Don't we?

I'm afraid..in my racing lexicon....MRS PATMORE is virtually the LAY OF THE SEASON, despite what the racing pundits might be raving and ranting about her!

Instead consider...JACK FROST, the most likely one to break the ice for jockey Sandesh!

JF is Rated 21 points superior to MP, yet at level weights??
One could LAY the likes of Patmore's till the cows come home!

Good Luck to the Patmore aficionados!!!

Given a break of long 11 weeks? Mrs. P need this run.
London with bottom weight, should turn the table.

@ Windsor Guest
Thank you for the clarification. Understood it well now. You are right.
Now I don't fancy B-Fifty Two. My clear cut choice is MRS.PATMORE to win this race. I made my comments to Bob Sahney (rwitc.com) about his clear choice LONDON, however, I am still against that horse. Let it win.

@ Mad Max

Sir, you missed a point, in the penalties shown it says OR, hence the above penalties are not cummulative.

5 lakhs or over 2 kg.

ie: horses get the higher penalty. So B52 gets 3kg for a Gr.2 win and additional 2 kg for - After 30th April 2016, winner of a race of value Rs. 5 lakhs or over 2 kg. hence total penalty = 3 + 2 = 5 kgs.

HENCE THE WEIGHTS ARE CORRECT.

I have gone thru your analysis. I will only say that you are a theoretical master and Races should not be read on such depth to pick a winner.

You should apply hindsight theory in picking the winner.

LONDON will win the Race easily.

M.M. It is not the first time that this Handicapper has boobed.

The racing scene is manupilated to suit the top notches.

Also note B Fifty and London have comman owners.

These very owners took the racing public for A massive ride on Sat., with 3 failed favs and oner second favs. all failed to win.Clear these decent owners sitting Dubai in are being taken for a ride by their reps here.

So do not be surpised if London wins.!
