For the first time in 12 years the number of races remained below 300 figure mark.
A big pointer of the inefficiency that has crept in the management.All days there were max 7 races .No first jackpot, which was untill last year a
regular feature.
Less than 5/4 horses in first 3 races.Cups and big trophies which hitherto carried much respect with owners,like Eclipse , Ranjit Bhat Memorial,Maharaja Scindia, Morvi, had only 4/3 horse field. from so many bred in purple juveniles of Pesi,None of the horse emerged as promising one for the classics to come.Only Ruffina delighted the punters.
S K Sunderji and I Sait made good progress in such gloomy circumstances.
Club is going to post a whopping loss again this financial year.
So why the self tom tomming through full page advertisements in midday.????

IPL yes, evening racing NO. Let us think logically where is the malady? I have not heard a single complaint regarding IPL and/or night cricket which has been there ever since 'BIG BOYS PLAY AT NIGHT' was introduced. Is it not a huge success? Basic Indian tenet 'I am NOT happy to see others happy' does not allow me to appreciate any change. I must find faults, how else can I digest my dinner today? Some people just grow old but refuse to grow up. Freedom of speech does not necessarily mean throwing common sense to the winds.

bookies made a lot of money on kolkata races.at mumbai they lost it all.i can tell u all that begining of the season at pune we maynot see the bookies holding court.they r truely done.

Really. We can take what they say at face value. Mumbai season technically started on 9th Nov 2016. The 1st day of the note-ban. How much they lost only they know.

I express my pity. Not sarcasm. Real. If they are disillusioned about the profit potential, feel that continuing the same profession may not be viable and may even prove disastrous let them surrender the license.

I think they did that on 15th & 16th.

"Punters say they lost". Same thing. Try the known method in damage conrol. Bet low. At least learn from the bookies. On a day they sensed continuing the betting business will be injurious to their finance, they simply closed the stall. (I am talking about 2nd April).

It is generally the SYSTEM which won - like the Club with their commission+stall fees, the Govt. with their exorbidant levies of taxes, IT dept. for garnering 30% tax on windfall gains (non-refundable) for all pay-outs in excess of 10,000, the racing publications, race book sellers, etc. etc.

Brokers usually are gainers, but they do have some off days. Punters are perennial losers, a particular punter may win big one day, and then lose all the gains, and more, several days consecutively (Chanakya Sir is a live example).

As said by me few coming from long distances for evening races definitely can have problems of returning home late & their cribbing about the timings is also right.

Enjoying races is an art.One need not play all races & go around & meet friends & can sip a glass of beer or have a cup of tea with snacks.In Mumbai there were few events for all punters in between races. I feel sad for those who can't enjoy races, as it's not just betting on horses & win or lose.The real glorious moments of winning come to you after you learn enjoying losing( as it teaches you a lot every time).
Once you keep your bets in limits, racing is & can be enjoyable.

What you say I fully agree with you.. Soaring temperature during March end and April.. fine. But RWITC was holding night racing on Thursdays even peak of winter ( Dec/ Jan ).. was it fair? Most of the offcourse betting centers were not willing to go through the whole card ( I mean bettings curtailed to 1st few races only- with last 1 or 2 races excluded from betting point of view- which simply means loss of revenue for both the clubs ( host club as well as the center which is holding the offcourse betting )Surely with dwindling crowd ( I am just comparing the crowd prior to say 1995 )and reduced tote collections and ofcourse increased GST/ taxation, I personally feel that RWITC should reconsider their decision of holding night racing when the cost of holding night racing is too high and returns ...? Has night racing ( compared to day racing ) been able to attract more punters ? I have my own doubts. And if by cancelling the last 2 races at offcourse centers, there is a significant fall in the revenue ( surely from Bangalore ), RWITC should review their plan of holding night racing in future.
I still feel in India ( I am talking of an average punter ).. particularly when it comes to sundays and holidays,people are used to relaxing at home till lunch...enjoy racing in the afternoon and after 6 PM give some time to family also ( or have a drink with friends till 9 or 10PM ) and go to sleep early. If this routine is disturbed then for good number of the punters it will be very difficult adjustment. I am talking from a common punters point of view. May be many may like night racing.. some may find it difficult/ very difficult. But from the income point of view to the club.. surely RWITC is the only authority to decide whether its good or not good.

Racing is certainly not enjoyment.it is transferring of money from one to another with the help of a horse.nobody comes and enjoys like a cinema.only issue is what is its fairness?that lacked in current Mumbai racing.

I got in to the racing in Aug 1974and in 1973 the Ghost racing (Off course betting) of Mumbai started (This was the first two clubs BTC & RWITC started).
Till 1985 o1986 the parctice of last day JP carry-over was in practice aftrwards it was here and there !
That is why I said TETURN TO OLD WAYS.
This time Mumbai races has taken leaf out of Mysore Races. Two Fav. next is fluke or Two flukesnext one fav. this is was exactly happened.

People Who Want To Make Money, Big n Huge In Racing, The Venue Iz Mahalashkmi Race Course. It's A Fact People (Bookies) Open Their Shops, Invest Huge Sums, Not For Charity. They Are Also Having Families And Expenditure. When Anyone Invests He Needz Returns, So They Fix Some Races.Jockeys, They Are Risking Their Lives, They Also want Some Huge Amounts To Be In Their Accounts, So In Some Untoward Accidents They And Their Families Can survive. Trainers, Working X-Tremely Hard Day n Night, They Also Deserve Decent Returns. Breeders n Race Clubs, They Spend Huge Huge Huge Amounts In Maintaining Racing Courses n Stud Farms, They Also Needs Big Money Az Profit For Their Servival n Future Investments.
Last But Not The Least, We Punters, Who Really Iz The Backbone And Main Financial Contributers Of The Whole Show. If We Hold Ourselves, To Maximum 3 Smart n Safe Bets Per Day And Attend Only The Races At Main Centers,Then We Will Be In Plus n Big Plus Most Of The Time.Our Greed n Bad Bets Are Letting Uz Down Most Of The Time.

Even accepting that all is not well in RWITC( & that way with all racing clubs inclg.BTC) I for one enjoyed the evening racing. One got a full day to work( either in job or business) & enjoy the evening. Pune & Mumbai have soaring mercury in last few months & it was a kindness to the animals as well as the punters not to get sore in soaring temperatures of the noon.
Due to early declarations books also were available well in advance giving lots of time to dwell on merits of horses.Also not a single race day or race was cancelled, which shows the determined effort of RWITC, bar the few critics on evening racing.
At Pune, from where I come, bookies ring was full on all evenings & crowd enjoyed the programs. Racing was also competitive & one at Pune got good odds for win/place bets. The response to the challenges run by BKD & ksmrow shows & proves to a large extent what I express, rest there will always be some critics & may be they too have a point, if they come from distant places, but one can't help & make happy all at all times.

Majority are preset!this is due to too much free glancing of jockeys.it looks as though instructions are given while trunning!Foreign jockey's participation is a must.

Thank God .The mumbai season comes to an end.The timing does"t suit for of course punters like me.Instead of evening -night racing will they consider old system of day time racing in the coming years?
