Good riddance? Opinions vary.

We are happy if the races continue in the present location. At the same time, if the Government succeeds in reclaiming the land and the racing activity comes to a standstill at Bangalore, I do not think it is a life and death question for any punter. The current population at BNG plus some nearby taluks may be 2 cr. Of that only 15k is the punters' strength.

But, for reclaiming the land, I think the Government has to wait for at least several years from now. We are hearing about relocation of race course for more than 9 years. After 9 years from now we will be again starting hearing on the subject afresh.

There are people who believe that one set or one group of people are responsible for all the ills in racing. And there are equal number or much higher number of people who subscribe to a different school of thought.

The only common denominator is both group agree on one point. Racing is in utter ruin. In any case, the views of more knowledgeable people will carry higher level of acceptance.

The less knowledgeable people like me just harp on one issue. That is bookies are responsible. To me, their acceptance of bets at 10% without recording the transaction in bet sheet & thereby depriving the club and the Government, the legitimate revenue is the main cause for the club's sorry state of affairs. The fact that they indulged in such grave malpractice openly, and the officers who were expected to maintain high level of integrity simply joined hands with the said bookies is an open secret. Absolutely no contradiction in what I say and what other knowledgeable people say.

From the punter's side, even now we are hearing some sharp comments about the wisdom (or lack of it) in management shunting out the bookies. It is the biggest wonder that in the current betting environment where those who advocate tote betting are hopelessly outnumbered when compared to the pro bookie lobby, the bookie were officially not permitted to run their business for more than 5 months. A side effect of demonetisation that no punter or bookie had ever bargained for even in their wildest dream.

And, the latest rumor doing rounds is that the bookies will be back with a bang. The speculation is that can happen as early as May 13. I do not see any such thing possible for immediate future. Even if the rumor proved correct, I am the last person to lose my sleep on that count. I regard them as much as my friend as anyone else. I am writing about 10% when the bookies were doing their roaring business. Not a single bookie objected to what I write. Not a single bookie cared. But, it was rather amusing to see some horsetalk members taking the role of bookie's defendant. Well. They are all reassured. The bookies were shunted out because some of the members realised too late that they are the biggest reason for the Club's sorry state of affairs. Not only me. 100 Raghavans can not stop them if the club members decide that bookies should be allowed to run the business.

Right. Thanks for your professional comment that Penicillin Procaine is not a performance enhancing drug. We are being told only now that it could be just an anaesthetic or antibiotic.

The controversy is not entirely about Penicillin Procaine. The CEO could have just made suitable remark and closed the file. He could also have conveyed his decision to all the members. In other words, they could have maintained some transparency. But, for reasons best known to themselves, they maintained total silence about that.

Who is at fault or who is not at fault is something not in our hands to decide. The issue has blown out to this extent, thanks to the media who beamed this story for hours together. And the Club officers were too late to give their version.

Penicillin or Saridon or Anacin. The matter has been referred to police, Government etc. Let us hope, some clarity emerges at the earliest.

Some clarifications..

Procaine is not an antibiotc but it's a local anaethetic agent commonly used with penicillin injection to reduce the pain at the site of injection.

Its not a performance enhancing drug so even if the it's levels are excess of 10nano grams it doesn't make any difference.

Authority's and proffessional's stupidity knows no bounds.

BNG has a monoply in racing in Summers.yet the new happenings shows clearly that it is not the bookmakers[as Raghavan keeps harping] or GST at any rate but the current lot manning the club who will ruin it.

Since the govt has been forced to intervenes .we will have to wait for its out come.

Regarding the dope test on Queen Latifa:

National Dope Testing Lab, New Delhi declared the result +ve. Q-Latifa's urine showed 1-2 nanogram of Procaine Penicillin.

It is far less than 10 nanograms threshold level adopted by all international labs while conducting tests on urine samples obtained from race horses.

So, NDTL was not aware of threshold level. And, simply declared the result positive without checking the admissible level of the said drug.

Now that the can of worms re: doping in racing has opened the stipendiary stewards of all racing centre's must be investigated. This is but the tip of the iceberg as regards systematic and institutionalized doping that takes place is all horseracing clubs in India. The PR machine has already gone into gear with Imran Khans article. If he was a journalist worth his salt he's be investigating doping in horse racing deeper, but unfortunately his bread and butter depends on the powers that be in clubs committee rooms. How lame is the headline "It is time to get the house in order". Its time for horse racing to stop policing itself as its proved its ineptitude at doing so and the cover up has already begun.
The sport wonders why its losing audiences, its a bit like asking the Congress party why it isn't winning elections. Corruption and more corruption dear race goers is the answer. Doping cover ups is rife at every club, it just so happens that its been exposed at the BTC due to political infighting within.
A few weeks down the line nothing will be resolved and racing will continue and we the race goers will bear the brunt of total absolute and incorrigible corruption within the sport. Doping, stopping horses, running lame horses in races, feeding buckets of water to horses to slow them down, the list is endless. Every professional whether he be jockey or trainer or administrator or owner(some not all) are involved. The Bookies are just conduits, call them share brokers. The real big money is made by the professionals.
Do we still want to race? Its up to each individual whether they want to donate money to those corrupt administrators of the sport.
Boycott racing and let the govt. close the sport down. The quicker the better.

The succeeding governments of Karnataka were trying to kick BTC out of the current location, and now it seems like the Club authorities have themselves handed over a reason on a platter to the government.

I refered the drug Procaine benzylpenicillin which was administered by BTC vet's is an antibiotic not a STROID. As per Ikram Khan Darashah ran the horse after a safe period of 25 days and in the urine of the horse it has shown 1 to 2 Nano grams (up to 10 NG is allowed). MORE OVER IT IS NOT A PERFORMENCE ENHANCING DRUG BUT AN ANTIBIOTIC

This is a very sad and serious day for the sport of racing in India. Officials are supposed to implement the law and not gang up with the doping mafia. If these two people Nirmal Prasad and Pradyumna Singh have been caught red-handed, then they should be prosecuted. The courts should give them exemplary punishments. The TV channels are saying that WADA will investigate this case. We must remember that WADA is the same body that banned the entire Russian athletics squad from taking part in the Olympics. Is it possible that they would ban racing in Bangalore. That will be pathetic.
