I am smart-still-poor-punter. I have seen trainers from the times of young Rashid Byramji till date. Let me tell you any tom, dick and harry can become a trainer in racing because the remote control is very much with the owner. Unless they get the green signal from the owners, trainers are not going to go for the kill, even for a place bet. I know how even a popular trainer like B Puttanna (who retired recently) used to bring popular jockey Robin Corner from Chennai to Bangaluru after the horse is prepared well and the connections decide to go for it. I remember one of his horses "Nagarjuna" placing only when wanted and going off board when punters expected the most. Same is the case with almost all trainers, including Paddy and Pesi. They are there to make money for their owners and themselves, and not for you and me. Mind it boss!
