Back to listsGeneral Confusion About The Pedigree Of Got Abroad
By Pedigree Matters | 27-May-2017
I have seen many friends of mine talking about the got abroad horses to be far expensive than local bred. In fact I would like to tell them it's not always the same. Most of the got abroad are cheaper than something out of multidimensional, excellent art, arazan or burden of proof. The fillies that are imported after covering from good stallion are not highly performed type. Most are un raced others hardly have any performance to credits. If a got abroad comes out like a champion it's the sire line that has played the trick in India. We have seen great horses like ocean and beyond or jacs but their brothers and sisters have failed even to reach a class one. On the other hand we have mares with classic blood lines and great performance in studs like usha, poonawala and kunigal.
Let's take a simple calculation in consideration. The fillies that are acquired from abroad are generally in a range of 10 to 25 grands. The stallion fees are around 25 grands. Including the taxes and duties to bring them to India they spend around 5 grands. Now this entire sum up comes to around 25/30 lakh Indian rupees. And imagine a cost of horses bred at usha or poonawala. Very few mares abroad which come to India are costlier. If we lack in something of very high international quality it's the sires. We hardly have sires which are group 1 race winners abroad. And even those which we have had been rejected there. For an example Oath the Epsom derby winner.
If Indian racing has to attend and international platform we need to acquire more high quality stallions. Let's see what does this GST turn out for racing. If it doesn't make a negative impact let's hope one day we will be having listed race winning sires in India
