Excellent Art - Overrated Stallion

By Nitin | 29-Jun-2017
The owners of Excellent Art have surely jumped the gun by buying back the progeny sold by them at astronomical values. It is believed that they haven't actually paid out for them instead have offered yearlings in exchange. They bought back Moondancer from the Hyderabad owners whose performance in the colts trial was that of a class 4 animal. The trainer of Moondancer spending the week in Ascot did the owners no favours. Now we come to Apache Sunrise who also ran a dismal race and Darashah has an uphill task ahead of him. The pressure will now be on Toddywalla who trains Ruffina .... definitely a classy filly and a cut above the rest of her age,to deliver the goods.

I think Excellent Art is better than Arazan. It is premature to predict its potential in Indian. So many Arazan progenies are out every year. Excellent Art is also following that path. May be the connections feel they have to encash its utility as soon as possible. For example few over worked sires lost their life very early in their careers in India since 2011 and the list is very long.
Sires died or destroyed during the last six years are below, some early in their career, others because of old age and sickness. They are-

Noverre, Admiralofthefleet, Adler, Alnasr Alwasheek, Hurricane, Always A Rainbow, Ansbatch, Apache Road, Becket, Astonish, Dancing Forever, Danehill Star, Dark Nile, Don Michiletto, Hammerstein, Hesperus, Holding Court, Hot Stepper, Burden of Proof, Chaitham Street, Concordial, Cool Creek, European, Fleeting Arrow, Flitch, Foyer, Glory of Dancer, Mathematician, Mastermind, Mambo Minstrell, International, Major Impact, Placerville, Princely Heir, Poet's Dream, Ontario, New Famous, Moon Prospect, Mudeer, Mischevous Music, Rambus, Ravel, Razeen, Reach the Gold, Rebuttal, Samhoon, Serious Spendour, Sharp Attack, Sizzling Melody, Smarten Up, Storm Trooper, Tazahoon, Tejano, etc.

We have seen several times good sires produced 'also ran type horses' but I am not sure, it is because of severe push to sires to cover so many mares..? In the current BTC summer season, Arazan and Burden of Proof sired horses are being entered in every races, and they outnumber other sires. A healthy question to ponder, should not the existing sires get adequate rest ?

Is Art another Arazan? Did well in the first season and then went to pieces. Champions in mumbai but by Bangalore they were all foos. So far E Art is going the same way. Ruffina looks like the only savior so far. Perfect will run a big race in the Bang Derby.

Excellent Art is a very ordinary Stallion.
Moon Dancer also they paid very high price and wasted money, their trainer knew very well it is ordinary so he left it and went to Royal Ascot instead to see his Desert God.
Appache Sunrise will only run and win in handicap races.

Yes the hype on Excellent Art was initiated by the breeders of the farm. They have been shrewd by selling shares at inflated prices to owners like J Mody, B Saldana and Jeejeebhoy and kept only a quarter for themselves. If they were confident of the stallion they would have kept the full share for themselves. The buyers have been made scapegoats.
