Hyderabad:

Cost cutting measures? At what cost?! By hitting on the stomach of hapless tote clerks?

At BNG it seems the tote clerks are getting around 400 a day. Same may be the case at HYD. From this paltry sum they desire to make some savings! Thereby depriving some facility to so many punters who can buy tickets only during 9am to 11am.

Around 12k salary if there is non stop racing! and less than 8 thousand during April to June. How many employees are functioning at off course centers and how much savings the club will achieve by decreasing the working hours and reducing the payments proportionately? The loss of revenue per single bookie in a single race may be much higher.

If they are sincere, they first should stop this 10% bet and ensure that there is no leakage in revenue. My rough estimate of leakage in revenue during the last 10 years is they could have purchased enough land and built one race course at Amravati. Let them by all means stay slave to the bookies. But, it is the most cruel thing on their part to think of cost cutting measures in such a way. When the Council announced the proposed rates, these HRC management was the most vocal in talking that employees will be in serious trouble because of the eventual retrenchments that will follow in case gst rates are fixed at 28%.

But this approach of reducing working hours and proportionate salary cut is worse than retrenchment.

@Roy,

We should not compare BTC with other turf clubs in this regard. The turf clubs at HYD, MUM Guindy, Kolkata are on vast area and punters do not feel suffocated during the 4/5 hours stay at the main course. Whereas BTC has a very small area. My rough estimate is around 300 to 500 punters will be there at off course centers and if all are closed then the BTC will be always in housefull mode.

@Palm springs,

"Bookies are the future of this industry"! Bookies are not taking care of either punters or the club or the industry. They are just doing the business and earning only for themselves. At BNG, they were given pink slips; at MYS they were given pink slips. We have no complaints. In spite of GST. And, you can give 50 examples in a month where the bookies have paid higher amount to punters. If there are 200 races in a month, then I also can give 50 examples where payout at tote was much higher and 100 cases where the payout at tote is at par with the bookies offer.

Of course, I am speaking only about btc. At other centers, (Chennai, Mum etc), what you say may be correct.

All race courses having off course centres will not look into timings and cutting the cost but also shutting down off course centres which are paying high rent. For example 2 of courses centres at Bangalore are closed and a few more might close.

The returns on the tote has dropped down drastically let it be win place or shp, the tote timings have become really uncomfortable, hence bookies are the future of this industry where you will find good odds and can back confidently without worrying about the fluctuations in odds which happens at the tote counters, earlier some people were in the favour of removing the bookies like bangalore but if u see presently the bangalore dividends are pathetic, Presently Bombay Pune, Hyderabad are the best places to bet with the bookies you will find good odds, the tote dividends have come down drastically and there is no future if the public betting is only dependent on totes.

Yes the timings are changed. As a cost cutting measure, perhaps after GST, the morning shift of guards and tote clerks is abolished.Now the tote starts 1 hour before the 1st race. A notice to this effect is diplayed at the tote centers

Yes Madhusudhan reddy.It is really uncomfortable for the office goers like me.When the tote starts at 9am I can easily punch my tkts whether I have night or day shifts.Now it is not possible we have to depend somebody who is going to the course regularly.
The reason for above changes I guess is that they hve to pay only half salary to the staff as they work for 4 hrs or so.Adding to that last four days of bangalore had only seven races on each day.For OOty also they done the same 12 noon to 3.30pm.Electricity the other major expense also will comedown.But I think they will revert to the old timings once the Hyd and pune season starts.
