Hi All,
We need to wait couple of more meetings to see who is riding for whom, at the moment riders are moving around with different owners/trainers.

1-5 BLAZING BULLET - Has a decent chance with C Alford riding and is not a favorite on morning odds 5/1. Ran a forward race over 2000m and tracking well. Should win. The horse which will follow is Desert Cat.

2-1 ARAGON - Consistent over the last season and has a good chance to open an straight away this season. Tracking well as well. Has to beat Mariska.

3-1 MERCEDEZ - By Phoenix Tower, thrice second last season, this time will definitely put his head in front. It will be a straight double for Owner/Trainer with 2nd race.

4-3 JUMP AND RUN - Ran a very good forward race last April over 1400m and came 9th just 3-3/4L behind the winner. The only 3yr old in the race.

5-3 MUSTANG - The race is between Bacardi and Mustang. I give advantage to Mustang because it is good over the shorter distance. Bacardi will not go without a fight.

6-1 ANASTASIO - This is an open affair, anyone can win. I give chance to Anastasio as it takes a good start. Noverro has come down in weights and that's its advantage.

7-8 AYRA'S PET - Is a speedy customer, coming into the season with two back to back wins. Excellent track. Sangfroid who is also a 3yr old will fight with AP.

Kolkata 19.07.2017 – My observations & choices

1st Race
1 – Arion – last start winner over identical distance, with this jockey looks difficult to repeat
2 – Secret Builder – on class demotion, is the horse to be beaten
3 – Simply Royale – another one on demotion, jockey may be for odds, can upset
5 – Blazing bullet – another demotee with champion astride, may place
6 – Desert cat – younger one, with this jockey may be tried, but win looks difficult
8 – Dark Angel – tracking impressively, with this jockey having good chance to score

My choice: both (2) Secret builder & (3) Simply Royale each way

2nd Race
1 – Aragon – impressive in track works, with this jockey good chance to score
2 – One man army – on demotion, may be tried at longer odds
3 – Athletico – on demotion, with an in-form jockey, will be in contention
4 – Mariska – failed many a times when fancied, now with this jockey good upsetting chance
6 – Artificial – a maiden after 10runs, first time given to a whipless apprentice, if handles well may be the upset of the day
7 – Dakota Dreamer – close third to Rabda, in with a chance now

My choice: (6) Artificial if handled well by the rookie may run away on start to finish, or else (1) Aragon can win

3rd Race
1 – Mercedes – thrice 2nd in as many runs, will it continue the trend?, hope so
2 – Gloaming – good 2nd to Occitan over 1100mts, with this jockey might improve for a win
3 – Shohin – may place because of jockey
5 – Alamire – may be fancied because of jockey/owner combo, can be a coup too
7 – Mocha Loca – the only debutant in the bunch, can surprise

My choice: (2) Gloaming each way & (7) Mocha Loca for small upset bet

4th Race
1 – Heliconia – a double for jockey/trainer ?, no way
2 – Land of glory – speedy, but may need a better rider for winning
3 – Jump and run – running some forward races, can clear the maiden ranks now
4 – Flying cloud – tracking good, will be in contention with champ of Kolkata astride
5 – Ivy – with the benefit of opening day run, is the one to be beaten here in this lowest class
7 – Sam Houston – only win its career at same distance with same jockey, might be tried for upset
9 – Ahlan – runs with upsetting chance
10 – Famous attack – with this jockey, having upset chance

My choice: (5) Ivy each way & small upset chance on (7) Sam Houston

5th Race
1 – Tbidabo – a win is due for long, may upset
2 – Bacaardi – tracking well, can try with this jockey
3 – Mustang – speedy, earlier winner at identical distance in class, can upset
4 – Rabda – may need a bit more extra distance I hope
7 – Shy Belle – speedy, may be a double for both trainer/jockey combo, if wins earlier

My choice: (3) Mustang or (1) Tbidabo might upset this race

6th Race
1 – Anastasio – pet distance, will be in contention with this jockey
3 – Make way for me – speedy can upset with champ astride
4 – Zander – another speedy one, a win due for long, but looks difficult here
5 – Bull Run – not with this jockey, may be a good second in a start to finish attempt
6 – Noverro – with top in-form jockey, very good chance to score

My choice: hope Kolkata champion regain his confidence and tell everyone (3) Make way for me

7th Race
1 – Simran’s choice – may place at longer odds
4 – Claymore – at a suitable distance, may upset with this jockey
5 – Celerino – impressive in tracks, can try with this jockey
6 – Rustler – tracking well, appeals on age, can upset
7 – Running Hand – impressive in tracks, will try with this jockey
8 – Ayra’s pet – on a hatrick, but on promotion, can do it
9 – Siempre Nueva – a name change may bring the necessary luck, good upset chance
11 – Sangfroid – youngest in bunch, may be the one to be beaten

My choice: (11) Sangfroid each way & (9) Siempre Nueva small upset chance

Race 1 Win#5-BLAZING BULLET
Ran an impressive 2nd to I Told You Know over 2000mts in his last start, after leading till 300 metres from home. Excelled in the latest trials, should now make it a start to finish affair in the hands of jockey C Alford, most likely willto open his account for the season with this prized mount.
Have a Good Bet. My DAY'S BEST.


Race 2 Win#5-ROMANTIC SOCIETY
Already a winner in this class over a mile. As such, please ignore her last two runs; has been moving resolutely in the latest trials, should win here with 200m less to travel.

Expect a semblance of a challenge from stablemate ARAGON, who has also been shining on the tracks.


Race 3 Win#1-MERCEDES
Thrice runner-up in her last three starts! Retaining fitness and form as evident from her morning gallops. I Rxpect her to go one better in this weak company, despite carrying top weight of 60Kgs. This could also herald the 2nd leg of Vijay Singh double...first one being Romantic Society.


Race 4 Win#4-FLYING CLOUD
Twice beaten favourite in her last two starts, expect her to redeem losses.
However, be wary about POWER OF FREEDOM, who could be a surprise package?


Race 5 Win#4-RABDA
Won in a close finish over 1400mts in his last start; prepared well, may go for an encore over this shorter distance.


Race 6 Win#6-NOVERRO
Ran 4th to Flanker over the same trip, moving attractively in the latest trials,
should now amend in the hands of jockey Neeraj Rawal.
This could also be trainer Bharat Singh's double. First leg winner having been Blazing Bullet (Rc#1)


Race 7 Win#5-CELERINO
Difficult race to select an outright winner. Celerino however, was a failed favourite in his previous essay. Is also seen to be galloping in the company of Romantic Society....a likely winner today. As such, I fancy his chances here.
Then, will this be Vijay's third winner of the day??
