Never take a kainchi on the Public tote
Unless you are multiplying it with 10-15-20 to one choices/Combination
Basic kainchi is played with private bookies & they fix the odds @ the time of writing your kainchi -in this case you already KNOW the amt you stand to win if all your horses [Legs] pass through ...or a double /treble in a 4/5 horse .
Totalisor kainchi PAYOUTS are confirmed at the time of results & payment declaration - if the horse pays Rs 16 -Multiplier would be 1.6 (60 paise & not 16/10)
But 99% its advisable to take kainchi with private bookies who confirm the odds @ the time of writing down the kainchi early morning or before the first race.

After reading your reply we would like to know the odds mentioned in the example are the odds from the tote board or fixed odds tote board?
Could it be also from the resulting payout?
For example the horse pays Rs.16/- is the multiplier 1.6?

Kainchi is a Multiplier of cash when all of your bets have passed
whether you take a 3 /4 /5 horse Kainchi .
Assume 3 LEGS AS A+B+C
if 2 legs pass you are entitled on a Double ONLY [AB OR AC OR BC ]
If only one leg passes then you LOSE your full amt -B passed & A & C failed
IF 3 LEGS pass in a 4 /5 horse combination -A+B+C+D
You get paid for 3 doubles & One treble ABC +AB +AC +BC -Assume D failed
Technicalities are if all horses & combinations pass
3 horse kainchi has 4 combinations -One treble -3 doubles if all 3 pass
4 horse Kainchi has got 11 combinations If all 4 legs pass
5 horse kainchi has got 26 combinations if all 5 legs pass [A-B-C-D-E


Whether you play win kainchi or Place kainchi
Just the odds will change -Combination & working will be same as above


Investment in kainchis -if you take 1000 rupees kainchi
3 horses [ 1k x 4times -combo ] 4000 Rs
4 horses [ 1k x 11 times-combo ] 11000 Rs
5 horses [ 1k x 26times -combo ] 26000 Rs
