Back to listsThe Amazing Grace Trophy: Pune 19th August
By Hunter | 18-Aug-2017
The Amazing Grace Trophy, to be run over 1200M, is a race for Class 1 horses. There are five horses entered. Brynhill and St Andrews are the prime contenders here.
ANALYSIS:
St Andrews was considered a classic prospect and did well over longer distances. Winner twice over 1400M, he runs over as 4-y-o for the first time (his victory over 1200M in his debut race is ignored).
He beat Brynhill by 1.75 lengths in Mumbai over 1400M, while in receipt of 9.5 kg.
In his lung-opener in Pune over 1400, he finished 6.5 lengths ahead of Brynhill, when both horses ran at level weights. On account of this performance, St Andrews's rating went up from 98 to 101, while that of Brynhill's came down from 107 to 105, thus resulting in net handicap advantage of 2.5 kg to Brynhill.
St Andrews has age on his side, being a four year old, while Brynhill is almost old enough to be his father at 8 years.
Brynhill's favoured distance is 1200M.
He has run amongst and beaten the best of the sprinters.
He has won The Amazing Grace Trophy last year
I would assume that his and St Andrews' run in Accolade's race was not a true run and the handicapper has thus showered Brynhill with 2.5 kg advantage.
In this small field, Brynhill will try to hit the front and stay there, thus in the short Pune straight putting the onus squarely on the horse coming from behind.
CONCLUSION
Distance and handicap favour Brynhill, while age and class (?) favour St Andrews. Brynhill will hit the front and could well stay there all the way, with wily Srinath in the saddle.
I believe it's not Brynhill's race to lose, but it's St Andrews' race to win. The latter has to come from behind over this shorter distance and catch Brynhill. Can Imran Khan do it?
WINNER
I'll stick to the proven sprinter Brynhill.
Happy hunting....
