The Akkasaheb Maharaj trophy is one of the traditional Sprint race run during the Pune season. This year there is a highly competitive field for this prestigious race. St Andrews who won last week carrying top weight is advantageously placed. He is my choice and Dancing Prances should follow him.

Dancing Prances was drawn 8, i.e., in second-last stall, so he had to travel several metres more than Holy Smoke, who ran along rails for most of the race. For me, DP will remain champion sprinter of his generation and it is a bit early to write him off. However, all credit to CS Jodha for keeping his cool and conserving the energy of his mount for the final well-timed burst....

That was an excellent bit of work.
You literally had the 1st three places all worked out, if only you had not erroneously considered St. Andrews as a filly, thereby ignoring him.
Anyways, this is one more bit of information that goes into my reference book, just like a couple of DrCheenu's articles recently.

usually I won't comment in such columns where all knowledgeable persons post their comments and choices. Here I want to put my observations
Dancing Prances winning the same cup intermittently i.e. 2014 it won, 2015 placed 4th and 2016 again it won, so this year I hope it won't win
In all these 3 years Dancing Phoenix was also been there finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th and been trying for this prestigious cup, today it is been ridden by Suraj Narredu and is not being fancied by many, I feel they are also waiting to encash it on longer odds and I hope it wins this time out
on the other hand St. Andrews in good form and is yet to lose in 1200mts, hence I feel this will be the only threat to Dancing Phoenix today
Adam won over 1400mts in Pune course and never won at 1200mts here, hence I am ignoring it, Denny Crane never won at Pune course hence ignoring, Holy Smoke, Celtic Prince & Champagne are not a match to these field hence ignoring
Gold Bag on other hand yet to lose at Pune course, but right now completely out of form, hence ignored
These are purely my views, may the best horse win, but I will take a chance on Dancing Phoenix

Some interesting facts of this race from last decade results -
1) This race was NEVER WON by a top weighted horse Hence Eliminate ADAM
2) This race has always been WON only by geldings Hence Eliminate GOLD BAG, ST ANDREWS and CHAMPAGNE
3) This race was NEVER WON by any horse without that year's PUNE season run benefit. Hence Eliminate DENNY CRANE,DANCING PHOENIX (ADAM,GOLD BAG and CHAMPAGNE are already eliminated in the above steps)
4) The average top weight of this race is 60.2 and Average winner weight is 53.8. Hence Winner should be among DANCING PRANCES,DENNY CRANE and DANCING PHOENIX. (Close to 54 weight). As DANCING PHOENIX and DENNY CRANE have already been eliminated in the above steps, ONLY DANCING PRANCES remained in this step.
5) Left horses from points above are : DANCING PRANCES, CELTIC PRINCE and HOLY SMOKE. Interestingly, all of these three have run in Race #27 this season. Based on Race #27, I will eliminate CELTIC PRINCE. It is now clear that race should be between DANCING PRANCES and HOLY SMOKE.
Analyzing race #162 of Mumbai, DANCING PRANCES should beat HOLY SMOKE today.
My bet would be DANCING PRANCES WIN and HOLY SMOKE PLACE.

Dear all, with due respect there is one horse which has beaten dancing prancess & Adam convincingly despite a long lsy off and is thus far unbeaten at the Pune track. Lasy year won @15/1. Today should fetch similar odds. My money is on Gold bag #6..

You are talking about Mysore Sprinters Cup and Chennai Sprinters' Cup, both conducted outside Dancing Prances' Home Turf. Both the times DP was not racing fit and he just participated. There is another instance also Adam beaten Dancing Princes over 1400m in the Bookmakers tropy which I ignored, because DP's forte is 1200m, that is the reason I mentioned 13 wins over that distance is a record. Only Indian_Turf_Record can correct us whether it is a record or not?
I have highlighted two Sprint Races - The Akkasaheb Maharaj Trophy and Dr. S.C.Jain Sprint Trophy, wherein whenever they met each other, DP came out better.
Anyway, thanks for more inputs.

Whenever Dancing Pheonix and Dancing Prances have run in the same race, Prances has rarely lost. Pheonix always sets the pace, the fast pace suits Prances for the final assualt.
Pesi has fooled the racing public a lot with Denny Crane and Adam but today he knows it is a task to beat Dancing Prances.

But for the correction Adam has beaten Dancing Prances on both the Sprinters Cup convincingly.
If given the nod Adam should take home this race.

Hi guys,
After a long time I've resorted to working out a Terms race based on a ready reckoner publised in one of the race books a long time ago, and that was to assess the chances of the runners based on the ratings and the weights carried.
Now, after working out this chart, here are my findings.
Adam and Champagne don't stand a chance.
The one that comes out best is ST. ANDREWS, followed by Holy Smoke, Gold Bag, and Celtic prince, with just one point separating these three from each other, SA is 2 points better than Holy Smoke.
As regards the remaining three, they're about 2-3 point adrift of Celtic Prince.
Though there's not much separating SA, HS, GB, and CP, my final choice is ST ANDREWS.
Well, after all this is a theory, a way of calculation, and in racing, at times all your theories and calculations can mean nothing, so please do not come up with scathing remarks - especially one who makes some INSANE (the capitalization is intentional for some to get a hint of who I'm referring to) remarks at times - in case the results do not pan out the way I've forecasted.

There is only one Horse in this Fray that raced in Dr.S.C. Jain Sprinters Cup in the last three years and won every time.
There is only one Horse in this Fray that raced in The Akkasaheb Maharaj Trophy in the last three years and won TWICE, here is the chance to win one more, another record calling.
There is only one horse in the fray that weighs around 550 Kgs. There is only one horse that beaten ADAM every time they met with weight in favour or against.
This horse has won the maximum number of sprints (1200 M) - 13 times, I dont know whether any other horse holding such a record?
The trainer has 32 horses in his yard, but no other horse brought them fame and money than this horse brought for them.
The terms of this race favour this him, so he is my PRIME CONTENDER.

Dancing prances is a spent force at 7 years.It will be difficult to be in frame.
Denny crane has a chance. But Pune run benefit and track work is missing.
Celtic prince has beaten DP convincingly.
Holy Smoke has chance. But not as good as CP.
But believe me it's CELTIC PRINCE which will be winner.
Surprisingly no odds for it at night.
Good for us.

Denny crane/ Adam THP/ Place. God only knows which one is on job.
