Gamblers Will Never Learn...

By Chanakya | 20-Sep-2017

@ all,
An economic survey gives these details about Karnataka state:

1.87 lakh crore (US$29 billion) (2017-18 est.) Karnataka is one of the high economic growth states in India with the expected GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product) growth of 8.2% in the fiscal year 2010–2011. The total expected GSDP of Karnataka in 2010–2011 is about Rs.2719.56 billion.
Revenues?: ??1.45 lakh crore (US$23 billion) ... GDP per capita?: ??148,485 (US$2,300) (2015-16)
GDP per capita rank?: ?10 GDP growth?: ?17% (2016-17 est.)

Now look at gambling turnover at BTC.

It was about Rs. 1400 crore in a year...State tax at @ 10% gives ONLY Rs. 140 crore to the state in a year. WILL THIS AMOUNT AFFECT THE ECONOMY OF THIS STATE????????????

If not, than why those 350 persons are NOT ABLE TO REALISE THE WRITING ON THE WALL...?

If high taxes are reduced, people won't go near illegal gambling. Where there is a will there is a way. Where there is no will?....

@Chanakya,

These figures comprise of contributions from many stratas of society. Club being a single entity, single ownership (in vague sense), single boundary wall gives 140 crores.

So lets not take it a small contribution.

@ SFP,
They can not live long in their IVORY TOWER...

@ M.MAX,
5% - 10% or 28% tax affects those who pay. For others it means nothing. Betting big, does not take these nuances, in consideration- please understand...

NO government- state or Central - lives, cares, bothers about this minuscule source of revenue...

@ Anoaksu,
The state government has an god-sent opportunity to dissolve the club and throw out its members on the road for the past misdeeds. It will never get this kind of chance again. Some honest will suffer- but there is no alternative. To clean a wound live and useful part are also removed from a infected body...

@ John,
Many people try to fool by using the plea/alibi used by you. Vets, trainerS, transportation comapnies, BREEDERS(???!!!) and poor workers...FEW OF THEM ARE REAL CULPRITS, to bring this game to this stage...

I'll explain in my next posting...

To consider the impact of racing on state revenue based solely on gambling turnover is foolish. The feed merchants, vets, stable hands, trainers, service staff, admin staff, etc all pay tax. Then consider the other industries tied to racing - breeding, agricultural pursuits, even transportation companies - the list goes on. Then consider the amount of unemployment that would follow a complete collapse of the industry - and you have a situation far more complex than simple wagering taxation.

What is needed is for external professionals to come in and rejuvenate racing - and possibly restructure the BTC. In Australia the Stewards of the club wield considerably less power - and stipendiary stewards and business staff run the show.

@Chanakya

Yes, I agree with you, it won't affect the revenue of the state. So no matter how long club operates infact the place which BTC has occupied if taken over by the government it can generate twice the revenue of the BTC.

Infighting among the members and manipulating tote dividends after GST has led to this state of affairs of BTC. Infact if enquiry is conducted regarding the dividends given they don't have any answers.

Definately as you have mentioned the writing is on the wall, the club is only to be blamed for destroying the punters base and trust.
Waiting for formal clousre.Good luck...

Why remember old stories?
Now the Tax is 28%. The State and Central Govt share 14% each of the loot. Now tell us who are the losers...? The Clubs or both the Governments? Punters are in a WIN-WIN situation. How many families saved !
