Yes, sporting owner is a rarity in horse racing. Racing in India has never faced odds as tough as it is currently facing. High taxes, rigged races (at least in perception of the racegoers), non-availability of online betting facility, dwindling numbers (combined with quality of followers) along with a high proportion of abysmal owners, all contribute to the spectacular decline in the glamour of the sport.

Owners like Joydeep Dutta Gupta are like fresh in the scheme of things and many many more like him are needed to revive the sport. Horse racing thrives on wagering. A non-wagering owner makes for fair racing and paradoxically promotes this betting sport!!
