The three main contenders....

Castlebridge can't stay, going by pedigree lines. But stay it did in the Bangalore Derby, when going down by narrow margin to Manifold. Default contender.

Apache Sunrise's staying ability can be questioned. Plus Neil Darashah winning a Derby. Blue moon would be needed.

Romantic Star has a fantastic pedigree and is the one to trouble Castlebridge. But taking a line through Manifold, CB has the measure of him. RS went down tamely to Manifold. And when CB met an improved Manifold, CB did manage to stretch Manifold.

So, on merit CB is the winner. However strange events have been known to happen in Mysore Derby. Remember Desert God losing to Mogadishu? So, here's the last Derby of 2017 and some may want to bag it by hook or crook. Excellent Art needs to save the bacon for Poonawallas after failure of Ace and Arazan, as pointed out by the Major in his incisive article. And Romantic Star victory would help Usha Stud bridge the gap with Nanoli - again a pearl of knowledge brought forth by Major Nargolkar.
