Joy Of Winning A Race

By Ayyarnet | 30-Oct-2017

FRIENDS;

Most of us are interested in betting and only monetary part of racing. But actually in sports winning is indeed a joy money part takes second only. Australian Trainer Robert Heathcote won a Race in last year Dubai World Cup 2016 event - Alquoz Sprint with his Horse Buffering ridden by his own stable Jockey - Damian Browne He took most of his Stable Management Team to Dubai all the way from Australia to support his Horse Buffering

You can see in the video how a Trainer and his team feels while watching the race and their Heart beat also. The joy of winning a race is indeed a great thing to feel and watching. To day he has erected a statue in loving memory of his Horse - Buffering in his Stable Farm in Australia. Have you ever heard of a Trainer erecting a statue in loving memory of his Horse ! I wish that all of our friends must view this video

Video Display : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6wAbIfI7x8

So friends betting is no doubt important but not the only thing in Racing. There are certain things that money can not bring you. Joy of winning and be a part of winning is indeed great.

I did not know much about this Trainer. After our Trevor joined him I took interest and started following his horses.Of course I can not bet from India but watching our prediction coming true is indeed a joy. He maintains his own website - Robert Heathcote Racing and provide all information about his horses and how they are progressing in training. If I remember correctly years ago only our Trainer R.R. Byramjee used to give interview to the Times of India Racing Correspondent at the beginning of a Season providing information about his horses and list of horses in good condition.. But that was long ago more than 10 or 15 years!

He also maintain a gallery of video display of his own stable Horses winning the Races. Their Racing Video is far superior to our video with very close shooting.

With Best regards to all.

Dear STV :

To live a Happy life with pleasant atmosphere you do not need a million !
You can lead a Happy life with just one or two lakhs also. From my experience money gained in Racing is unstable whereas money gained in business or any other field can be put in productive use and with little manuring your savings grows steadily.

In Racing if you are habituated to medium playing even if you lose you can manage since winning can never be guaranteed. But if you play heavily if you lose then you had it. Racing History is full of people ruining themselves and committing suicide etc., All these things are due to lack of ability or knowledge to distinguish between right and wrong !

The Joy of being correct , that is how I look at this game, winning or losing apart, I am filled with pride when I back 1 K on a longer odds horse which comes in than backing a winning fave 10 K , this does not give me the same satisfaction.

If you treat this as a pass time, a hobby or passion you will feel great at being correct in your analysis. ( I do fall into the trap of recovery occasionally and my focus changes then ) else you start doubting your ability , start to get carried away by others, get completely confused and bet illogically.

Then the second part is you start to blame everyone else but yourself for the result, ignoring the vagaries of this game.

The first time bet RS 20 on Gold Nugget and it won 20/1. Then racing sucked me in. Today I play in lakhs and waged 10 lakh occasionally.
But that first joy has never come on my face again.
Close to that smile was When Running Bull won Pune derby 9/1 when my bet on it was 7 laks.
Joy or sorrow in racing is short lived.

Dear STV:

I agree with you and I do not want to be hypocrite person and in the beginning I was also attracted for easy money when my salary was just Rs 750.00 month in Mumbai.(1975)
Once I received a Forecast Dividend Rs 375/- for just an investment of Rs 5/- I could not sleep for a night also always the commentary was ringing in my ears. In those days All pools were of Rs 5/- only except Jackpot. Even the First enclosure entrance fee was just Rs 5.50 I got entangled in Races due to my friends only during our Bachelor days.Once I even decided to leave my job fetching a paltry sum of Rs 750.00 per month and become a full time punter. Fortunately good common sense prevailed upon me and continued in the same company for another 28 years and retired as Mktg.Manager Now I am running a small export company on my own. I do not mix business money with racing and I use only my pocket money whether I lose or gain no problem.

But as we progressed with experience our mind also developed a bit with spiritual side. We could distinguish between right and wrong. From my own experience Race money never helped personally due to rotating nature of loss and gain May be due to the fact we have not played heavily even though we may be sure of winning. But my joy of winning however small it may be remained stable. I say this because I have other sources of income and I can not say for others. Many people told me that due to my principles and policy only I am well today and continue my racing habits. Otherwise I would gone in the wrong negative side like many others in the racing. My spiritual interest and little knowledge acted as a Bodyguard for me. Many of my friends are in the Hospital for many illness I requested them to read KANTHA SHASTI KAVACHAM every day. But they are all like others made fun of me. I ignored them and left them to their fate !

Apart from little money I have gained many friends due to racing that is more valuable. See now due to Trevor I have become a friend of a Trainer in Australia. I watch his horses every week end early morning 7 AM I used to congratulate him for his winning by email and he also acknowledge and expressed his thanks for the message. Noiw I am planning for a trip to Australia within a few months . Trevor has finished his stint and after Melbourne cup next week he is coming back to India this month.

Dear Ayyarnet,
We have agreed on the fact of ones selections yielding joy on their coming true.
I hasten to add that the joy of making money through winning bets is also great. In fact for most punters, that is the main view and objective.
There are different kinds of punters and their aims and objectives might differ. It all depends on the necessity or desire to make money[which is dominant factor],the years spent at racing and the present position and goals.
You are in a position or stage wherein monetary gain does not count much.I admit I am also in that stage. But in the earlier years, especially at young and middle ages money meant a lot.Even a 20 rs winning bet at 4 to one yielded great joy and even relief. My levels of betting increased with the passage of years and erosion in the value of money.Today,I also play 2k bets and that too only one or two bets.Limiting myself to what I can afford has immensely helped me in staying at races for more than 4\5 decades.

STV

Dear STV:

Thanks for your posting. I did not differentiate Indian Races and overseas Races for a joy. I too endorse your view Joy is indeed a joy irrespective of the place or centers. But the sporting spirit from overseas team is great. When Desert God was taken to Dubai see the difference. The Australian Trainer took his entire team including every one connected with the Horse in training or grooming the horse to Dubai. If you have watched Video you will feel it how many people were with the Trainer. When too many people wish and support for an achievement it comes out in real life. Surprisingly we get information about Desert God from Major Sir only !!! Not from the Trainer!!!! In Australia I was informed many many punters and every one wished and gave a warm send off to the Horse Buffering wishing all the best in the Dubai World Cup !! Here we are interested only what is the Odds now !!! Here comes the difference

Although I can afford but I do not wager or bet heavily because for the simple reason money gained in Racing is not of much use because we will always reinvest and lose sooner or later. Secondly in racing your gain is my loss and my gain will be your loss. Simple Logic. You can not build a mansion over the grave of other people. This is just my personal view. I go to races for a thrill and joy of our prediction coming true. Betting part is just a token formality of two or three thousand with the known book maker only AND THAT TOO ONLY ON FANCIED HORSES ONLY and not all races. I suggest if at all we win in the races instead of reinvesting the whole keep one third for saving for future and one third for enjoyment and the last one third for reinvestment. If you follow it Racing will be a pleasure to all.

Regarding your selected choice I admire and appreciate your confession. Keep it up. By calculation wise your choices are correct but today calculation does not comes out only watching the Hands changing the odds helps. Bookmakers are well aware of the result !

Finally as you have also said Joy is indeed joy only

Regards

Ayyarnet,
You have titled the post as "Joy of winning a race".You and others have rejoiced in taking part in overseas races either virtually or really. We share your pleasure.
The joy of winning a race is no less great whichever is the center.I admit ignorance of overseas races:at the same time I have cherished the moments whenever I could spot a winner especially if it is a longer odds runner and not a favorite or near about. As you rightly said,it is not only the money made that is the sole component of this joy.The pleasure of seeing your choice as per your calculations and surmises is great.
At the risk of being mistaken for beating my drums, would like to cite a few instances. On the last day of Pune season,I selected the following bets [as seen in the PTR]-

Winds of change-pl-div-25
Cristo Boss-pl- 27
shp- 83
El Tycoon
pl 20
shp 83
Lilibeth -win-failed
Celestial Light-shp-failed
Eigers Tiger-win- 46
Eternal Inspiration-failed
Triple Threat-pl - 20

you will note that the winning bets are mostly longer odds. The pleasure of seeing them coming true as per your calculation is very great,in fact greater than the monetary part of it.

Ayyarnetji
I have been in Bangalore for the past one year .we go to Melbourne for 3 months every year it as we had go enjoy to USA during June - JUly this year,we will not be going this year.
The reason I am responding immediately is to tell you to go to Australia during Melbourne Cup time .
You know it is always on First Tuesday of November and it is on next Tuesday!
You will have to see to believe the excitement and enthusiasm of the One Lakh plus people at the Flemington Race course on the MC Day.
Last year winner ,Almandin is the favourite at 6.5 $.
The Web site provides huge information and there are any number of incentives to tempt one.
Go to Melbourne in November ,next November.

Dear Ayyarnet,
I endorse your views.
In fact, the joy of seeing the horse you own has no comparison.
I still vividly remember the First and Only Win of Kandalla my horse in Mysore way back in 2007.
He had quite a few run skills in Bangalore and my trainer ,Md.Khan had shifted him to Mysore and told me he has better chances there.
When he phoned me in November to say that Kandalla is running in the first Race and has a decent chance to win ,I wasn't in Udaipur on a consultancy assignment.
This was the first time my Trainer had become optimistic!
I became excited and dropped my assignment and flew back to Bangalore the next day and drove to Mysore on the Race day with all the enthusiasm of a teenager!
I did walk up to Kandalla in the Stablejust before going down to the Paddock and requested him to win once -
Just once I said,is all I want ,in memory of my dad who was an avid punter during Fifties and Sixties visiting Madras and Bangalore .
Well,MAMs horse with Prakash up was the favourite at 16/10 and Kandalla was available at Tens.
I did have a wager in the ring and came back to the Owners Enclosure and stood next to Khan.
VR.Jagdish was the jockey .
As the horses turned for home. Kandalla was third and at about 300M,he overtook the front runner and that's when I started my Shouting--come on Kandalla. At least 10 times n he passed the winning post 3/4 L ahead.
My joy knew no bounds and I embraced Khan and ran all the way to the unsaddling Enclosure.
I. thanked Jagdish profusely and gave him a big tip too.
I couldn't think of anything else for the whole day and for a few days later!.
Yes,that joy has no Parallel.
For the record,Kandalla never won again and when his rating became zero,we donated him to Mysore police Academy.
My grand daughter who has seen Myers holding Kandalla in the photo, still asked me ,where and how is Kandalla!
