Ashwa Chittor

By Tarun | 19-Dec-2017

Many things happen at DRC. The latest being the entry of a horse called Ashwa Chittor in the 200 Giuneass. First of all how does the club allow a horse to run a classic when it has never run before. Not sure if it had a mock race or not. But this is the heights. Does any racing centre in the world let alone India allow this.

Just for the record the horse finished last.

Disgrace to the owners, trainers and not to forget the club.

Dr. Bashaar...Thank you for acknowledging my post.Regarding Calligraphy, that time Original Vel Book, do not provide earlier runs(elsewhere) of the participants. On the 1000 guineas day, Calligraphy was widely fancied. We had our doubts , because it was running in a classic (on debut) and taking on seasoned campaigners. Then the bet was placed on Deepali ( odds around 7 to1) ridden by C.Roche . Sometime back Indian Turf record gave info about its earlier runs in Bangalore prior to 1000 guineas (bombay) appearance, and confirmed it was not a maiden.

Revalation had annexed Indian Oaks also in January 20, 1985. Indian Derby was of February 3, 1985 and Indian Turf Invitation Cup at Kolkata on March 3, 1985.

Before that on Nov. 25, 1984 Revalation won the Golconda 1000 Guineas also.
Same day at Bangalore 1000 Guineas was annexed by Prima Facie. Prima Facie earlier won the 1000 Guineas also.

June 17, 1984 it was EMINENCE won the Bangalore Fillies Trials.

Mr.Kolramsri,
You are absolutely right. Calligraphy was owned by J.P.Goenka. I had mentioned earlier in my post that it entered sprinters cup as a maiden- May be I am wrong. ( Hence I had requested seniors to correct me ) ( Also no horse can participate as a maiden in sprinters cup-only horses which have been nominated by any of the turf clubs are eligible to participate in invitation cup weeks races- No horse which hasnt run will be nominated by any turf club how much ever good it is. ) Probably calligraphy ran in a classic as a maiden ( may be you are right -1000 guineas ) - and because of its front running tactics chosen for a sprint race. Am I right it won the sprinters cup ? I would be glad ( just out of curiosity )if you could provide me the details of this horse's performance records.
Thanks
Dr.Bashaar

Request to Indian Turf Record.... Will you please verify from the available records, and give details( 3.3. 1985) last race, invitation day Calcutta, and there after the winning mount of Warren Singh in Bangalore summer 1985.

Revelation , was not owned by V M.( Owned by N.M.Irani and others, trained by Bezan Chenoy)Its only appearance in the South was winning Golconda 1000 Guineas. All from memory. When on the day Revelation won the Invitation in Calcutta, in the last race, there was an objection, the winner (played by me) was disqualified in the Stewards Room. I think the loser was owned by One Mr. Singh ( not sure). I was waiting for this owners Horse to run next time .Yes the same owner's horse ran in Bangalore and won @ 20 to 1 .I played place bet. Jockey was WARREN SINGH.Because of certain associated events, some horses are in one's memory for long.About Calligraphy, was the property of J.P. Goenka. First it raced in Bangalore( thanks to Indian Turf Record) I was under the impression Calligraphy appeared as a maiden in Indian !000 guineas, because those days Race books do not give details about horses run earlier elsewhere.

Tabun, if you own a horse the possibilities are endless! You know the in UK & Ireland, the horses simply graze the land and come the racing season, they start galloping! At sometimes the age is no restriction! Here you would say how come a seven year old is running shamelessly !

There is no rule baring horses from making debut in classic races.

Golden Diamond trained by J S Dhariwal ran in Bangalore summer Debry 2014 as dubutante.

There may many such examples in history.

Tarun as per mu knowledge it is the entry fees paid by any horse entered in the beginning. it is quite bit varing from center to center

Remember a maiden horse trained by Malesh won the 2000 gns. in CAL. So one cannot lay down rule of first run or a maiden beiung entered

I have a funny feeling that this horse is owned by a breeder.

Mr.Tarun,
As far as I know there is no hard and fast rule that any horse should have compulsorily run before participating in a classic race. Preparatory runs are basically given to horses with classic potential ( as per the assessment of the trainer/owner ) to assess various things like - distance suitability, style of running, whether the horse can come off the pace etc.etc. so that how to plan the run in the classic race can be decided.
If I am right- Calligraphy ( trained by R.R.Byramji ) ran the 1st race of its life in sprinters cup..seniors please correct me if I am wrong.
