I just saw race card of Mysure.Two races are Jockey Amyn Merchant s fancied.just weeks ago he won at Delhi.before that in Mumbai.how trainers call him for their mount in all racing center's whether he s so much skilled or well knowledgeable jocky? Or just to divert punters attention? Knowledgeable punters pl share ur views.

Amyn merchant has been riding horses since 1986 and in professional races since 1989.I wonder where jockey Ghatge came on the scene.I know of jockey Vijay Gharat from Matheran.He was my friend.

Amyn Merchant, Neeraj Rawal and Ghatge & E.Philips(to name a few) of few decades ago are/were as good as the champions of today- perhaps better, but the punter and ordinary race-goer will not appreciate their artistry. They can win/lose a race unlike these so-called champions of today, who do not know how to ride a loser or a winner...
Do not blame a jockey,except those 'fattened'- on losing a favorite(intentially) and winning on a 'better=priced' runner...

He use to ride For MAM in CAL till one fine day just chucked out.reasons not known
In wilderness s till CD [BAba syndicate] gave him mounts.
Now riding in Delhi and MYs or for bookies Gambles in MUM.

If you ask me, I will tell Amyn Merchant is a mediocre jockey but used to try hard. His finishing skills are good, but a bit overweight. He was held by the stables of MAM only for a brief period, and that too mainly in Chennai and Ooty. He has never won a classic, or if my knowledge serves me right, even a graded race. But you can rate him with the best if the race is allowed to run on merits. Rest of the answer is for you to presume.

I personaly knows him since years, he is a hardworking lad and gives his hundred percent to his mount
