In countries like Australia, the UK, the Us, Ireland, Mexico, Macau greyhound racing is conducted and bets are accepted. Most of the time the flukes are winning and the winning punter get good odds. There are lot of online betting sites accepts bets, but in India all forms of online betting are illegal.
Sometime I feel what is the use of going to Kolkata and Hyderabad races, where most of the races are fixed. In RCTC, it has become a fashion NOT TO BRING THE FAVORITES NEAR THE WINNING POST at all, thereby race goers are being looted completely. Look at the races at Kolkata today, totes paid, 99, 56, 62, 449, 72, 56, 77 and 27 respectively in a card of eight races. One favourite obliged as a solace for the punters in the last event.
Around 70 to 80% of the BTC punters are habitual favourite players. I don’t know every day how these people manage to bring so much money and offload it on tote counters and also onto private bookmakers and return empty handed. Now HRC has also started to emulate their counter part at Kolkata in STOPPING FAVOURITES FROM WINNING. Last two days we witnessed it was blood bath at Malakpet. A small center like DRC has no other option, is also following same path? It is all happening because of the 28% GST cut on turnover, and the Race Clubs have no choice, other than give full freedom to the trainers.
If 8/1 or 10/1 or 15/1 or 20/1 horses are to win, then what is the need of the bookmakers in the race course...? What is the need of HORSE RACING in Kolkata? Why wasting a big prime land in the city of Joy for looting the race goers? Instead why not the Government allows GREYHOUND DOG RACING or VIRTUAL HORSE RACING where odds are rosy for the players, like Kolkata races. The Central Government and the RBI should approve online betting as soon as possible on Greyhound dog racing and/or virtual horse racing and also on other sports betting, like cricket, football and hockey
Hope the Central Government act wise and in the interest of betting public.

I avoid favourites always, and dont look at tote or bookmakers where dividends are less than Evens. I was sympathizing with the BTC punters who are always bet the first favourite on tote. I have noticed this several times. Even you can me NOT TIPPING favourites 90% of times.

Agreed, in a haste overlooked the other joint favourite won on three occasions, but should not we account the 3 joint favourites lost? Previously in any center, when a favourite lost, one of the subsequent fancied horses used to win, some times 2nd favourite, 3rd favourite or 4th favourite etc. But the that trend has almost stopped.
Do you know Kolkata has recorded 18 Bumper Flukes out of 115 races. You can imagine how many punters benefited when totally unfancied horses wins.
In those 18 races, RCTC paid 191, 153, 123, 393, 128, 296, 130, 148, 571, 357, 155, 614, 211, 108, 192, 359, 244, 449 against a tenner. 95% of punters on that day were looted completely on these races. I dont count those 5% winners who punch 5 or 10 tickets on such races.
After 28% gst cut, we hardly get 50 or 60 on tote against a 10/1 horse. There were 22 races, in which tote dividends were paid in the range of 50 and 99. May be 30 to 40% punters may have benefited out of such races, still the majority punters lost on these races also. Now look at any punter made any money on 40 Favourites at Kolkata? Most of the times the pay out were less than 20 (evens) it is hardly enough to square up their losses.

y r u complaining about it then,just follow it as a sport(whatever ur pocket allows) and dont crib about it

Race 55 - AYRA'S PET (7/4 and ALISHA'S PET (18/10) AYRA'S PET won.
Race 82 - AYRA'S PET (9/4) and MULTIPLE (9/4). AYRA'S PET won
Race No 103 - FRIENDSHIP (3/1) and RAQS SHARQUI (3/1). RAQS SHARQUI won.

I have taken the favourite as shown in indiarace.com results.
If the world average of favourites is 30-35 %, 40 % favourites in no way supports the premise that Calcutta racing is crooked. It may or may not be I don't know but facts are different.

You may be correct as far Bookmakers are concerned but totally wrong as far Club (Tote) is concerned. In any race, amount disbursed the Club is exactly the same irrespective of odds of winner.

Was surprised to see an experienced punter like you write this. Each and every handicap race was won on merit. The two sweepstakes races, merit could not be compared as there were outstation runners and first timers.
The reason the Tote paid high was because RCTC was kind enough to add Rs ONE LAKH TO EVERY WIN POOL. Is that a crime or something to be happy about for punters.
Yes, bad riding may have cost a race or two. Like Kamble on ML

One or Two races for the day is my mantra always.
Played Colombiana place at 16/10. Which I had posted with one glance at race card. Had I gone for shp the returns would have been huge.
Never play class 4 and 5 races.
Try this and u will be always up by the end of month.
My only bet at mysore was Sherlock posted as days best .

21st Hyd, 22nd Hyd and 23rd Kolkata races had one thing in common. Too big losses to punters. One man lost 75,OOO on 2 races at Kolkata. Rufus and panchovilla.
But, it is the punters who should take partial blame at least. In form horses not running true to potential and outsiders, that too 2O/1, 25/1 horses scoring easy victories is an old trick.
I do not take sides.
But can any one explain how the punters were keep on betting 1Ok, 2Ok etc as if there is no tomorrow. When two rank outsiders won, the public reaction should be not to bet in the subsequent races OR bet a maximum of 5OO/1OOO in subsequent races.
Stopping betting as a mark of protest? Tomorrow, on account of bundh in Karnataka, there is no IVB on mumbai races. But, there is no dearth of spirited bettors travelling to Chennai or Hyderabad. Let us wish good luck to them.

Your calculation is almost correct till R Nos. 115 around 75 favourites lost.
But it is not exactly correct. Few days there were few Joint Favourites both horses lost thrice or a quadruple of times, like Arya's Pet & Multiple, Arya's Pet & Alisha's Pet, Raqus Sharqi & Friendship etc, and one more jodi is there I do not remember. The most important factor is when a fluke wins as an outsider at 15/1 or above hardly there any pay out the Club or Bookmakers make any payment to punters, a total disaster for the betting public, a total loot takes place. It happens many a times in every season. For a layman 40% favourites win at any center is something big, but for any one analyse it in a professional is more than an appreciable figure, but it is misleading when you look at it professional way. 40 Favourites half of them at meager odds won. On 75 favourites lost, can the punters square up their loss with 40 favourites at meager odds. What about those placed bets on second favourites, 3rd favourites, 4th favourites etc...and lost ? Add them also in the list. Kolkata races are very disastrous for the race goers.

This current winter season 115 races have been run at Caclutta and 46 favourites have won at an average of 40 %.
I have calculated these stats manually so there can be a small error.

Instead of asking for Greyhound Dog Racing, why don't you ask punters to fight for just and merit racing ??????
In today's racing, thousands of families are being ruined by the wrong-doing's of Clubs themselves getting involved in fixing and made-up racing.
These fixed races are very alarmingly increasing day-by-day.
That too by the top notch trainers, owners, jockeys and the clubs.
Only one option left for punters is to write directly to the authorities to conduct raids on a regular basis on bookies. By this, not only the swallowing bookies, but all of these robbers will be effected drastically.
Any other option left to the racing public ??????????

I have written the article in the context of Kolkata races especially where any day flukes winning. Form horses not in the fray. Favourites not in the fray.
Universal Strike rate of favourites is 30-35%, in Kolkata you dont expect that average.
MY QUESTION IS SIMPLE...
IF ONLY FLUKES ARE TO WIN THEN WHY CRUELTY TO HORSES, WHY NEED A JOCKEY ON AN ANIMAL TO WHIP AND KICK? WHY NOT GREYHOUND DOG RACING, WHY NOT VIRTUAL RACING ALLOWED. NO HARM TO ANY BODY, NO NEED TO ABUSE ANY TRAINER OR JOCKEY. IF IT IS ALLOWED ONE THING IS SURE... BTC has looted punters in the last 3 or 4 seasons more than any other racing centre in india are you not aware of that or you are just turning a blind eye just because you are from the same place
