Handicaps are out. Prevalent Force and Manifold are joined by Lady in Lace. Also, from Kolkata come Sana and Aggregated. Then, there is Selfie Star.
My choices for winning are Prevalent Force or Lady In Lace. Safer bet could be Selfie Star for place.

Every body is taking about PF and LIL. In my view the race is between ZENON and MANIFOLD.LIL will not be in first three.ZENON has systematically prepared for this race for the last six months.The owners have another horse named ZENON by great filly Jaqline in u.k. and that horse is doing well there.So i think owners like the name Zenon and confidant about this chances in the big race.

This year Connections were Targeting their Filly for Indian Derby.

Lightly raced and still unexposed ZENON from ace trainer Pesi Shroff’s yard first caught the eye hitting strong form line in Bangalore summer derby finishing on well fifth behind Manifold ( Indian oaks winner), Castlebridge ( Indian 2000G winner), Olympia Fields, Kangra ( Bangalore oaks winner).
Since then he has raced only twice and has won both of his starts at a mile and a quarter. He has shown vast improvement with each victory and has been systematically prepared for this race. He is bred to stay and will certainly relish the derby trip and is my personal strong fancy for the Indian derby 2018.

Why no one can see beyond what looks like a formidable force of trio / quartlet. There can be and always is an outsider hidden, waiting to pounce upon the so called biggies. One thing is sure it is a very open affair as there is hardly any consensus, which leaves enough scope for bookies to confuse the punters in the ring. I forsee that all the top 4 ( LIL, PF, Manifold & Aggregated) would be backed one by one and the odds would fluctuate violently. Numerology wise if you see past record maximum times horse at no. 10 has won or placed. Viewsssssssss

Selection after declarations but one thing has totally foxed me.
I cannot find a single track work of Aggregated at all after his Cal run.
Has he been tracked at night to hide from all of us.
Doe some one have any info on it?

First of all Manifold Didn't Get a Clear Run in that Race.
Soon after the Start it has hit the Front, kept in 2nd position and then
in the Straight it hit the front. It didn't get a Clear Gallop which forced the Ruffina to enter the Rail followed by lady in Lace and Blocked it in the Front. Later Windsor Forest Blocked it from Outside, Making it to Finish 4th.
if you see both Race no 58 (1600) mts and Race no 101 (1600 mts). This filly has hit the front and outpaced by the Outsider in the Last 100 Meters.
In Both Occasions its Lady in Lace !.
If you see her Runs in Banglore Derby (2000) & Mumbai Oaks (2400), it was in 4 or 5th Positions and Started Galloping in the Last Furlongs.
Connections have to Answer the Running Strategy..

Manifold will WIN by at least 2l clocking 2.28+ if only with Neeraj .

Would request one and all to watch the second last run of Manifold, where she is 4th after windsor forest. Manifold in the last 100 m tries to shift from railing gets blocked by two front runners & windsor forest. Idea was to assess the finishing speed. anyone who can read the run may elaborate..pls

Prevalent Force slept through Chennai Derby (slow pace) and was woken up by Srinath and won by 8+ lengths...Simply outstanding horse...will win the Indian Derby/ Invitation and all other entered races without a sweat.

At the handicap stage, I reckon the horses that need consideration are
AGGREGATED, PERFECT STAR, LADY IN LACE, MANIFOLD, PREVALENT FORCE, SANA, SELFIE STAR and ZENON.
Aggregated sure comes into the reckoning based on his back to back victories in prestigious races in Calcutta, however, I'm not too impressed by the numbers for long distance on the pedigree charts. Moreover, a mere jump of rating by about 40 points does not mean that he actually belongs to that class, he would have to prove it over time, and I'm sure this is not the race for him to prove that, maybe in the future.
In the Derby, he beat Sana, who, in the previous run, the Oaks, beat a field that had an average rating of half of her rating, so along with Aggregated, I'm knocking off Sana from the list of contenders.
Before I move on, let me put this across, the two horses that show up best on the pedigree charts (at least as per my understanding of the pedigree charts) for this trip are Perfect Star and Zenon.
Moving on, we have Perfect Star. Now I've lost on this one quite a few times, however, I won't be too inclined on ignoring this one here. Has been tracked well, rested well, and if David Allan is on this one, I might be forced to have a more than serious look at this one at race time.
Lady in Lace, now this one surely would be the prime favorite along with Prevalent Force here. Has done nothing wrong up until now, has ticked all the right boxes, is in Mumbai for quite a while, and has more than decent tracks. Surely one of the strong contenders, and surely would be a pick in my JP selection, however I won't be too strong on this one because I see that though she has good stamina pedigree numbers from the Sire side, there's lack of support of those numbers from the Dam side, and for long distance races, I'm inclined to look at the numbers on the Dam side rather than the other way around, I know many out there would scoff at this, but this is something that has worked for me.
Based on the back to back hat-trick victories of Prevalent Force, before the handicaps were out, I thought that the Derby is at his mercy, and then when he wasnt entered for the Hyderabad Derby, I felt all the more strong about this one, thought they were targeting him for the big race, and expected him to be in Mumbai, preparing for the event, however, I notice that he was last tracked on 26th Jan in Bangalore, just one week prior to the race. Just four days to go, and not a track in Mumbai. I don't usually go strong on any horse in such a situation. He might win, but I'm not impressed from the prep angle, should have been in Mumbai by now, and tracked a few times. So I'm sticking my neck out, and saying that PF might get beaten.

It's quite unlikely of Pesi not to be tracking a horse that most would believe has the best chance amongst his lot. I'm purely ignoring these two based on lack of preparations.

I have no doubts about the horse's staying abilities, and based on the prep work for this horse by Pesi, I feel this is the one that he would target to annex this Derby. Just a small concern that makes me toss up between ZENON and PERFECT STAR is the fact that Zenon has run the last two races in handicap races. Re Suraj Narredu's ownership of LIL, I am sure you are aware of benaami ownership.
Also bear in mind that Suraj was champion jockey in Malakpet for years, before he moved on to national stage. He was the retained jockey for KSV Prasad Raju for more than one season.

Are you in your real sense to say a Jockey is allowed to own a horse in full or part? Please do not spread false information. A trainer can own a horse, however no jockey can. However there may be understanding between trainers/owners and jockeys. Officially it is impossible.

Suraj will ride LIL as he is a part owner of the horse. PF has come but has beaten ordinary horses. Aggregate and Sana are from Cal which is the weakest center. Rochester is a Phoenix Tower who will find the 2400 too much for him. Selfie is ordinary and at best should run in the last 4.Manifold won a poor oaks but will be in the 1,2,3 Zenon is a shot in the dark if he races straight. Very poor lot of horses so let the best of the worst win.

Zenons last win was impressive. Tracking exceedingly well. All other horses are also fit for the fray and rearing to go. I would say Zenon has to beat all other horses.

All most all runners has good experience of about Six or seven races ran and won.but Aggregated just completed its 3rd run.so considering this we must accept it has more stamina than others.It shd win this Derby but one disadvantage in it side is poor timing and beaten brigade were not best classic horses.neverthless it was not is fault not being run with better horses.now he will show his Metal Worth.M.Narredu,S.Narredu,Owners Nanda are all ready to lift This year Indian Derby!!

She will hack the field in a record time. On a lighter vein, punters with weak hearts better stay away watching this race. 600 metres to go.., LIL will be in rear end and gives a devastating run from the rear end & wins by 3 lengths. Your thoughts please LIL fans.

This year Derby Contenders are not So Superior Like Earlier Horses.
Horses Like Be Safe, Desert God, Quasar, ALAINDAIR have set the Bench Mark With Record Timings.
Even Last year Derby Winner Hall of Famer was not so encouraging in Terms of Clocked Record Timings

Coming to this year Derby, The Prime Contenders Clocked Timings are :
PREVALENT FORCE - 2:35.68 (South Indian Derby) at 57 kgs
i Feel this is Bit Sluggish. even the 2000 mts record timings are not encouraging.
SANA - Kolkata Derby (2:34.62) and Oaks (2:36.38) both at 55.5 Kgs.
I ruled out this Horse, even if it is a Final Entry.
Aggregated - 2:34.32 at 57 kgs (Calcutta Derby)
good horse, but it Didn't Show a Fluent gallop in the last 100 Meters.
Mani Fold - 2:30.54 at 57 kgs (Mumbai Oaks)
Showed some Improved and better performance than the Others. even the 2000 mts record timings are some what Good.
Lady in Lace - first time at 24000, Need to look for Potential.
but at 2000 mts, Pune Derby Record time was 2:03.33 at 54.5 kgs Slightly longer than Manifold 2:03.21 (banglore Derby) at 54.5 kgs.
Rochester: for 2000 mts has beaten castle bridge in Record time 2:01.14 at 57 kgs which is best so far in this bunch, but does it travel extra 400 meters. it looked some what tired at the final stages.
Zenon: Another Doosra from Shroff's Stable, which he is Confident About,
Track Record at 2000 mts was Improved in last run 2:03.45 at 58 kgs.
Need to see How much it can Improve at 2400 mts.

Dear Friends Suraj is one of the best jockey in india and ofcourse deliberatly sometimes he will drown punters because of Bookies favour.And if he have some share with owner's horses he will win outrightly.
In this context LIL will win handsdown folowed by Prevelent Force,Rochester and Aggregated.Other than this four nothing will be on frame.
Punter friends back on LIL and make money.

Manifold has got his old form in last mum oaks run tremendous gallop at 200 mts to winning post, i dont think so it will be beaten in Indian Derby.
