Funny Mumbai Races

By Godzilla | 18-Feb-2018

Two doosras won, one bowled by Jodha and another by Pesi Shroff. I could see the disappointment on Punters faces.

Atleast the Invitation Races should be fair.

Play both horses? All are not that rich. The better approach is skip the races where there is potential for the owners/trainers to unleash doosra.

We can not blame the trainer even if it open secret that one horse under performed and the other one scored. But, you can teach them a lesson. Not more than 2OO/= bet if you are bookies player and not more than 1OO/- bet if you are tote player. If you have to skip 3 or 4 races in a day by applying this formula, then just do precisely that. SKIP.

It is one thing to bet confidently one horse and curse oneself when that did not score. But, betting one horse and living in tension about the doosra till the race is completed is quite different.

Play both horses is a confusing way of doing betting plus both can lose - If a trainer enters two horses and the one with longer odds win that is a 'doosra' a planned gamble!

Dear All,
First up when you call it Doosara, the simple thing is in such cases, why punters play both horses ? You can adjust your bets to ensure that at least the basic investment is not lost.
Secondly, the above is said as a punter only where you've to be smart to counter the ugly plans of the connections. In future too the connections are going to play these tricks to recover money invested in purchase of a horse, it's retainership fees to trainer & other losses.
I find NO use of crying foul after so many such tricks over last few years regularly played & clubs turning a Nelson's eye to it.

dk. murali - I don't know about the doosra but what you say makes no sense - 'if one is fair the whole world looks fair' 'no'- one can have a positive mindset but after a unfair incident has occured one cannot accept it as fair .

If you get pick-pocketed only you might say its 'fair' poor man did the right thing he needed the money more then me , nobody else will agree - wont say more you sound too soft for me!

WHERE THE STEWARDS ARE IN THIS ISSUE?

I am one who is shouting always that racing has slipped to low levels nowadays. Whenever I pointed out the doosra from the leading trainer either my post was not published or it was edited. I am glad the names of trainers published. For the first time I disagree the doosra in both the cases. Palatial race was purely decided on weights. In the previous race when Palatial and Square ran in a terms race both carried 59 kgs. Surprisingly, the handicapper had raised the handicap to all the horses by 9Kgs at the acceptance stage. There was no withdrawal of any horse at the acceptance stage. Why the raise? Now there was a difference of 8.5 kgs which was the end result. Regarding Vulcan it has won in lower class and running in the highest class it has no chance despite the handicap advantage. The same handicap difference was the end result in case the other race and the betting trend. The odds from odds on went up to 12/10 and the odds on Madagascar reduced fast from 5/1 to 3/1. But one little thing was the trainer used the second favourite as pace maker to unsettle the favourite.

Nothing new the Jodha’s and Shroff are doosra masters. Wonder if they also know what’s going on in their yard.

@Santosh P,

You cannot beat the system.. Greed wil always overpower a normal human mind, leave alone horse racing punters, who are full of greed to earn some quick bucks.

If govt. fixed tax @ 10%, bookies tax will come down to 5% and so on.

Live with it. Government is doing its best to "save families" by increasing tax to such an extend that horse racing becomes a losing game for all of the betting community, so that punters dont punt on horses........But do we learn????

When punters do not want to come together, when punters do not want to shut racing for a day to set right these manipulators, what does one expect then
??????

Someone suggested sometime back that punters get together and to not enter the race course for a single day, was a very reasonably way to make these wrong-doers think twice, and we could expect a little more fair racing. But what?? Nobody cares, nor will that happen.

Now, that the clubs know that, they get more and more emboldened to allow these wrong act's more and more without any hesitation.

So, pay up and smile, even if all have lost every penny they came with.

@Raghavan ji,

If GOI keeps 10% as betting tax, most of the punters who goes to bookies do not mind(most of the punters) to pay tax. When tax is 25% or more, no one will be interested to go for full tax betting.

And why the tax before betting?? If punters gets profit charge him 10%tax on the profit, if he looses charge 10% to bookies or to the club. Why before investment? Everyone will be in loosing proportion and tax for loosing money also is ridiculous or useless thought.

After shifting to Mumbai I have nearly saved 30k as tax amount to bookies during last six months.

PDS

I dont think my remarks will carry any weight.

raghavan sir

I fully agree with you. Todays Racing is not anywhere near 80s and 90s. The connections in those days win Races for PRIDE, and nowadays lose certain Races for a 'PRICE'. Who cares about PRIDE.

Dear Godzilla,
I did not expect this doosra remark from you at least. The winners were better prepared or we can say were in better form and they scored clear wins so where is the question of Doosra?

So, what I am trying to bring out is that there is already so much muddle in the minds of Race goers and remarks like this will confuse them more and that is not good for them in the actual sense of understanding Racing and the tactics
which is a common practice of all concerned.

Godzilla jee,

Expecting fairness in racing?

And for what purpose? To see the smiling and happy punters?

The equation is heavily loaded against the punter. It is better to advise the punters to keep away from betting. Of course, no one listens to that.

Today, the only advise that has some takers is asking the punter to bet low. Racing is always losing proposition. During the 8Os and 9Os in two centers at least [BNG & MUM], racing was relatively fair. But murmur of well reasoned objections were heard then also. Today we have a forum to make noise. But, then there was no such luxury. [I do not think THE HINDU, Indian Express, Times of India etc. would publish any letters to the editor in this regard].

So, just visit the race course with earning a few rupees for beer/dinner. Keep your wisdom in your hand and bet in such a manner that when you come out of race course you do not have to visit a loan giver. If you think that you can construct house, conduct daughter's marriage from race winnings, just do a survey. See how many race goers have so far done that.

And finally why the club is under obligation to run clean races. What is the price paid by the punter to club. The club does not gain one rupee from punter. The punters bet at 1O% tax which will be pocketed by the bookie. The club's earning is zero.

I do not say the Government's move is reasonable. 28% gst and another 5-6% club charges is sufficient to scare anyone doing betting legally. I am on a very very week wicket in canvassing for tote betting. So, bet to your heart's content at 1O%. But, do not question the club about the unfair racing. The only legitimate thing you do when attending racing is paying the entry charges. And value for that is given by the tv relay of racing, live racing. Thereafter it is between the punter and bookie. The punter has every right to object to the bookie, the dirty things owners/trainers/jockeys do. The punter also has the right to play flute to a buffalo.
