Fortress Mahalaxmi Raided

By Shashank | 18-Mar-2018
Lady In Lace - Indian 1000 Guineas (Gr.1)
Castlebridge - Indian 2000 Guineas (Gr.1)
Corfe Castle - Poonawalla Breeders Multi Million (Gr.1)
Catalonia - Fillies Championship (Gr.3)
Star Superior - Colts Championship (Gr.3)

The "Mahalaxmi Fortress" has been raided by the outstation challengers this year. With horses from all over the country beating the local horses in their own backyard, in 5 different group races worthy of a mention here. So, have the ever-dominating Western India horses lost the edge they used to have earlier over their counterparts, or this new "Rest Of India" crop is just too hot to handle?

The answer to this question may well become clear as we head into the Pune monsoon and further into winter season, but as of now, the over-hyped Western India crop has failed to live upto the expectations and the Fortress Mahalaxmi has been breached!!!

All comments are welcome, the ones with needless sarcasm are not!!!

you guys mention these horses as if theyre god's gift to mankind. lady in lace was beaten by a western india horse in the indian derby. your list above doesnt mention 2 most important races - oaks and derby, both won by western india horses.
going forward, castlebridge was beaten by western india horse in calcutta. as for the 3yo, its still early to talk of superior horses. time will tell. besides as someone rightly mentioned, owners of catlonia and corfe castle are western india owners.
agree with aditya nair and crk though.
as for rochester being a one horse wonder, he did beat castlebridge in the ruia and won the derby. so that more than one race wonder.

so yes western india will stop being the premier center when the sun starts rising from the west

The outstation horses have out classe the western India horses true. Rwitc horses are facing a big problem due to the metro. Many horses specially in the morning are bursting their blood vessels. Also the track is so hard and uneven that the horses are breaking down left right and center. The best from Bangalore Sir Cecil is yet to see mumbai.. let’s wait and watch what comes up in Pune..

@Shashank Sir,
You have raised a very good topic here, no doubt trainers and horses of other centers are performing exceptionally well at rwitc. Rwitc owns costliest horses and superior pedigree and having best amenities for training as compare to that of other centers, lets hope officials and concern authorities will feel the need to take racing seriously in coming days.
Cheers

Yes indeed apart from CASTLEBRIDGE all are from hyderabad...i have mentioned many times that hyderabad centre is producing a good horses..but some here are think that hyderabad centre is third class centre ...
Catalonia beaten by punjabi girl comfortably then we can think where punjabi girl stands in mumbai racing..
lADY IN LACE is also from hyderabd we have witness her brilliance..CORFECASTLE looks ordinary in hyderbad when he came in mumbai strike big ...STAR SUPERIOR is from banglore and perhaps the last hope for the excellent art over the mile trip..he won in great style yesterday completely out class his opponent...
So no western india challenger for any classics in future...rochester is also one time wonder...
