@ITR,

Earlier I used to take you as an old age librarian who used to give old records, when asked for.

But these days, I am finding you in a completely different avatar. And believe me, I am loving it.

Carry on..........

Thanking you for your explanation. What I posted was from what our grandfather used to narrate to us.

I suppose there are many versions of the story. The Wikipedia has has Arjun narrating it to Subhadra.

In any case why Arjun or Lord Krishna should narrate a war stratagem to a lady appears strange to me and I like my grandfather's version.

Is there a Fonn's of Mahabharata ? I wonder !

I T R.. While Lord Krishna was narrating many of his Adventures to his pregnant Sister Subhadra, how to penetrate Chakra-Vyuha was one subject he was explaining.Finding Subhadra dozed off after the 7 th step, Krishna did not continue the subject further, while Abhimanyu (in the womb) was attentive. Only brother and sister was there.

@ Racing Fan,

If Abhimanyu could understand the rudiments of how to get into 'chakravuvha' (my spelling may be wrong) because he was in the womb while Lord Krishna was explaining it to Arjun and Subhadra, carrying Abhimanyu, was present, it should not be difficult for prodigies to master Mr. Bhtaney's book before it was published !

Your last post brought few chuckles, few raised eyebrows. but it is your second best quote after Quasar is one paced dud. 70's seems to be decade of frivolities after all.

In 70 's no mobile phones else I could he taken selfie and sent you with LE ROI in the back drop
Secondly the other day I went to a music program. The person on tabla was a real mastero
He was on enquiry I got to know OJAS. Later I googled and learnt that he started playing tabla at the age of . I lead that even his parents were at that time awe struck with his talent in the same program the person on drums was GINO BANKS who was also a prodigy who started playing drums at age 3
So now you understand that my selecting LE ROI as a kid is no surprise. There can be prodigies in every field
Hope now you will rest......

It is the right of anyone to start a thread on public forum. Then, it is up to the respondents to keep it going or end it.

Firstly, R.W.I.T.C.,Ltd. never had anything called "golden badge". Secondly, R.W.I.T.C., Ltd. was very strict in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I have seen children of Stewards watching races from the stone benches near Gallops. Yes, if you were 16 or 17 and looked old enough, you could get an entry. But certainly, "kids" were NEVER permitted.

You say you were "too small" to know about Mr. Balapurya but old enough to work out why LE ROI should win based on handicapping !

I am very much sceptical about your having watched jockey V. Faggotter riding at an age when you could have formed an opinion of his riding skill.

Finally, I am also sceptical of your father or uncle being Members of R.W.I.T.C.

You have made some statements and it is up to you to prove that they are not dubious.

Very clever way of responding.
Firstly I typed the names on mobile so mistake, well FAGGOTER used to mostly ride in Kolkatta.Surprising because FONN was a Calcutta based book and you could not get it.Secondly what I meant was Pandu Khare and Shamu Chavan
Regarding balapurya we'll be nami name etc may be I was too small to know all this,
Lastly sorry to say but I observe that unlike Irish who clearly doubted my credibility and put in point blank you have cleverly put it like one politician of capital who put in very cleverly his negative political agenda after the surgical strike by saying I don't doubt it but where is proofpoor Mr Chanakya said one can make 10 million , I repeat he said ONE CAN MAKE and the thread has 100 strikes hope this thread stops here

In your headpost you said 'LE ROI was the last leg'. It was the second last leg; NOT the last leg.

In your post 4/14/2018 1:03:51 PM you have said "May Flower ran 2nd". This is again a wrong statement because Hard Held ran 2nd. I must congratulate you for having 'mastered' the MASTER KEY OF RACES as a kid. Most of us haven't done it as we near our graves.

Just out of curiosity, can you tell names of some winners owned by "Mr Balapurya the big time owner at RWITC" ? Maybe he was racing under an assumed name.

Never heard of some jockeys like FAGGATOR, p Khare, shame Chavan, etc.

Kolramsri said ...

Krish... Record shows HARD HELD ridden by F.Flannery won the 2000 guineas on 22.12.1968. So your entry one year earlier.

My dad and uncle were golden badge holding members both at BTC and RWITC.
A close associate mr Balapurya was a big time owner at RWITC, so getting into Mahalakshmi was no issue for our family
That is the reason I was there and by the by whether you believe it or not makes no difference to the fact I was there and cashed RS108 paise 50 on LE ROI which was indicated first choice in my handicap system .A system as per book MASTER KEY OF RACES by T G Bhutaney
Some one gave the winners as per FONN India record but here is the complete result as per my handicap book which I he still preserved
LE ROI won
MINARET. Ran second
KUNIGAL QUEEN ran 3rd
SILVER FLIGHT ran 4 th
That day the 6 th race was ECLIPSE STAKES OF INDIA won by FIRE CREST, MAY FLOWER ran 2nd,HARD HELD ran 3rd and OUR SELECT ran 4 th
In those days I was lucky to see great riders like ELDIN,JOHNSON, MERCER, FAGGATOR, BRIAN FOY AND Indian stalwarts likeJagadish, p Khare, shame Chavan, n Reuben, Remedious , Vasant Shinde and Aslam later followed by the teen sensation Karl Umrigar who died after a fall from VASUDHA in a three horse race, the first race in the cardthe list is endless

@ Ruchi,

In 70s children were not allowed to enter race track including member's enclosure and hence your posting on HT not valid. Secondly, Mahmoud Ali owned filly Lovely Lady made the difference by beating hot favorite in the first leg of jackpot pool on Sunday, 19 Dec 1971 (Bombay)
Lovely Lady (Yusuf Khan)
Victorious (Jagdish)
Billionaire (Yusuf Khan)
Umeed Inse (McGrath)
Dick Mink (Purtu Singh)

My first time entry in the Mahalaxmi race track in year 1969 the day when Hard Held won the Indian 2000 Guinness race.

@ Ruchi

The details posted by me in other thread are CORRECT.

When I post, I always check records and do not depend on memory. You have quoted 8.2.70 as the date. Yes, there was racing at Bombay that day and correct details of jackpot are as under:-

Sunday, 8 February 1970

Jackpot paid Rs. 12,16,024 on four tickets.

Details of jackpot races winners:-

GREEDY GIRL (J Mercer) (R.R. Byramji) 4/1 Tote Rs. 22.50 (10 ran)
FIRECREST (J Mercer) (R.R. Byramji) 5/2 Tote Rs. 16 (11 ran)
BRIGHT HANOVAR (Jagdish) (S.M. Shah) 4/1 Tote Rs. 24.50 (8 ran)
LE ROI (R.G. Mitke) (Naoji Lalji) 12/1 Tote Rs. 108.50 (13 ran)
TING MING (J. Roe) (Maj. K.P. Jadhav) 4/1 Tote Rs. 30.50 (10 ran)

Some of your details are correct. Some are wrong. Happens to all of us when talking about something which happened over 40 years ago. Fortunately, there are written records to correct fading memories. Details given above are from Fonn's All India Racing Record.

I do not know about the date. But my feeling is it is in between 1975 to 1977.

At that time, I was not betting on races.

In the wikipedia, it is mentioned that he won jackpot 46,OO,OOO a very huge amount during LATE seventies. So, I am assuming that it could be in the time 1975 to 77.

Of course Indian turf record has mentioned 19th Dec 1971 when jp paid 48,73,533.

So, your 46.7 lakhs on 8.2.7O may be correct. Indian turf record's 48.73 also may be correct. But, on both days jp might have won by someone else. Not RK.
