LION HEART trained by SARAT KUMAR carrying
68 minus 3 won velu memorial cup in 2008.and in 2009 the same horse won again S.Rangarajan memorial cup carrying 67 minus 2 both the times ridden by GAURAV SAPRU.It ran with wait of 70 plus but not won i think.

STV...That time I heard Three Wishes (Fair Chance out of Endear) was bought for a price of 8,000 rupees(may be in 1967).Even though it did not win any classic, it was one of the wonderful horses of that period.After Fordyce takes to training(Red Divine)it was ridden by Dixon ... Elliot...B. Mathews and others.Many times this horse won at good odds.Those who find these nostalgic memories are not cherishable, they are free to avoid reading such posts.

your mention of the name of Three Wishes brigs back old memories.Three Wishes and jockey Fordyce was a great combination.Of course,this has nothing to do with the subject'weight carried'.

I think Young Chevalier with Shafiq up trained by Z.Darasha won a race in Bangalore( may be 1400 meter race) carrying 65 1/2 Kg. Of the 4 horses of Hill stable , only Three Wishes with Hilton Cope won carrying 62 Kg, in Madras. .About Green Sari... After winning the Queens cup in Calcutta, it was bought to Madras and won a race with Dixon up on the Invitation Day 1972, ( Prince Khartoum) and It did not carry welter weight.It was Green Sari's last appearance on the Race Track. All from Memory only.About Miss Believe.. not much success as its Stable mate Green Sari.

I have already said that RIVER BLITZ won carrying 70.5 kgs. so I am basically looking for someone who has carried a heavier weight.
You mention welter weight. I hope you know welter weight is from 63.5 to 66.7 kgs. Since the horses mentioned by you carried only welter weight, there is no point in checking them out.

Your are right. Oncidium (70.0) was beaten a shd by Nobiliaire (50.0) on Chaitanya Chakram's Derby Bangalore Day.

carrying any weight above 60 kgs is sacrilegious,instead a handicap method should be devised to let that horse start 30 - 50 mts at the back or better have his gate opened 5-15 secs late..
Its very difficult to find jockeys weighing below 40kgs or else in such races the Bt wt could have been 42kgs

If my memory serves correctly, a horse named Oncidium owned by DR MAM carrying 70 or 72 KG lost by a head to a bottom weighted horse in Bangalore.

Don't TRUST Delhi weights and NO Delhi horse should be compared with other centers. All are Made-up race.

The heaviest weight that Squanderer carried during his career was 63.5 kgs. when he won the Nizam's Gold Cup.
Own Opinion (5/1) carried 67 kgs. when he beat Right Ahead (53 kgs.). Pune Plate, 1600 m. Bangalore, 30 May 1981

RIVER BLITZ 70.5 kgs. (PA Culhane) (P Quinn), Calcutta 4 December 2012
Heaviest weight carried in a race:-
Whopper (78.5 kgs.), Southern Command Cup, Pune, 17 September 1988
My records are not complete and will be delighted to hear of better weight-carrying performances.

My all time favourite horses are Squanderer, elusive pimpernel and of course Mystical. But to be honest, I do not recall squandeer having won carrying 71 kg. Own Opinion after his successful triumps in many black type races, I believe, in one of his later handicap races, carried 69 kgs and won, in Bangalore. This is my recollection of the heaviest weight carried in Indian racing.

Squanderer had won class 1 race carrying 71 kg.After his win in the next race he was given a penalty of 5 kg. and was asked to carry 76 kg.There was a lot of public outburst that how much back breaking wt.a horse can carry?Stewards and other club officials had a meeting and it was decided that a rule should be made that the highest wt.given should not be more than 71 kg.If you want the lowest weight should be reduced.The lowest wt.at that time was 50 kg.That was made to be 45 kg.So now the top wt. is 71 and lowest wt.is 45.
Right Ahead was one of the top sprinters of his time.He was running for the first time in class 1,carrying 52 kg.the odds were 1/2.Own Opinion(conquerer of Royal Tern)was carrying 12 kg. more and was at 64 kg.The odds were 10 to 1.Own Opinion won the race by a head.It may well be an all time record .

As far as I know CALLIGAPHY (Shafiq)- 67Kg. trained by R R Byramji won a ClI race in Bangalore This a filly out of Greygoston.
