@ Mit .. Thanks for pointing out the mistake in the 2nd leg dividends. I took the place dividend as $ 2.60 on Justify instead of $2.80

However the win roll ( Double) is correctly worked out as (7.80*2.80)/2.00 = 10.92

Dear SKS,

2 mistakes in your calculations:

1) Yours & K. R. Nath's score (in this leg) -> $82 (28+28+26); not $80.

2) Adding the 2 win payouts for JUSTIFY (7.80 + 2.80) totals $10.60; not $10.92.
_____________________________________________________________

One confusion:

TheDoc has multiplied the 2 win payouts (7.8 x 2.8 = $21.84), for his WIN ROLL DOUBLE, whereas SKSagar has added the 2 amounts, for the same.

Which one is correct?

MY SCORE = $ 182.00 (1ST LEG) + $ 80.00 (JUSTIFY WIN PLACE AND SHOW) + $10.92 (DOUBLE ROLL WITH JUSTIFY AND JUSTIFY) = $272.92 + ONE DOUBLE ROLL ALIVE 0F $7.80 + ONE DOUBLE ROLL ALIVE OF $2.80 + ONE TREBLE ROLL ALIVE OF $ 10.92

Dr.K.R.NATH`S SCORE = $ 104.00(FIRST LEG) + $ 80.00 (JUSTIFY WIN PLACE AND SHOW) = $184.00 + ONE DOUBLE ROLL ALIVE OF $2.80

My score:

$28 + $26 + $68 = $122, for $164.
Net loss $42.
(First leg's net loss was $2).

__________________________________

Mr. K. R. Nath,

Your score: $28 + $28 + $26 = $82, for $164. Net loss $82.
(First leg's net loss was $60).

“JUSTIFY” KEEPS TRIPLE CROWN HOPES ALIVE
“Justify”, at closing odds of only 4/10, won the Preakness Stakes 2018 on a wet and muddy track in foggy conditions, from fast finishing Bravado and Tenfold. Justify and Good Magic, the second favourite, were taken to the front right from the start and were ahead of the others by a good 5-6 lengths throughout. Same order prevailed while entering the straight and Justify began drawing away from Good Magic and when it appeared that Justify will cruise to an easy win, both Bravado and Tenfold came with telling strides to finish a very close second and third to Justify. With this win Justify has kept his hopes of a Triple Crown alive, having won the Kentucky Derby a few weeks ago. Now all eyes on the third leg, Belmont Stakes, to be run on 9th June 2018 at the Belmont Park race course in Elmont, New York. If Justify wins the race, he will be the 13th winner since Sir Barton won the triple crown 99 years ago. The Triple Crown was last won by American Pharoah in 2015. With Belmont Stakes being run over 2400 metres while Preakness was over 1900 metres, and with Bravado and Tenfold closing in on the winner in the final stages of the race, I don’t expect it will be all that easy for Justify at Belmont Park.

Hello All,

Justify is the 2-5 favorite

If your handicapping game involves identifying short-priced horses with vulnerabilities and betting against them, then Saturday’s Preakness Stakes at Pimlico could be dangerously close to the kind of race you would watch more than bet.

Justify was tremendous winning the Kentucky Derby. I mean, he was days the best. Justify disputed a very fast early pace, a pace that would have caused many good 3-year-olds to crumble going the Derby distance, and yet he still bounded away from his field through the stretch.

As was the case in his first three starts, including a powerful score in the Santa Anita Derby that made him the clear-cut Kentucky Derby favorite, Justify never allowed anyone to think he was in danger of losing for even a fleeting instant.

Oh yeah, Justify also obliterated that little 136-year Kentucky Derby streak against horses who did not race at Age 2. Not bad at all for a colt who only began his career on Feb. 18.

Comments by Person 1 and Person 2 is here.

1 Quip 12-1 12-1 94 ** Person 1: Has overlapping ownership with Justify. Two good efforts so far this year, should get a decent trip.
by Distorted Humor Person 2: It's a good bet that he'll do what Justify doesn't do. He'll sit if Justify goes, he'll go if Justify rates.
Owner: WinStar Farm, China Horse Club & SF Racing; Trainer: Rodolphe Brisset; Jockey: Florent Geroux

2 Lone Sailor 15-1 30-1 95 8th, 89 Person 1: Didn't break well in Derby, but saved ground whole way. Some traffic 3/8s, but good trip overall.
by Majestic Warrior Person 2: Derby trouble line in his pps says "stymied." Lacked room for a bit on far turn, was empty late.
Owner: G M B Racing; Trainer: Tom Amoss; Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

3 Sporting Chance 30-1 30-1 91 ** Person 1: Reportedly refused to work Sunday. Winless in four starts at 3, erratic behavior always a concern.
by Tiznow Person 2: His form isn't going anywhere, either. Seems like he wants some R and R instead of more racing.
Owner: Robert Baker and William Mack; Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas; Jockey: Luis Contreras

4 Diamond King 30-1 30-1 84 ** Person 1: Earned berth via "Win and You're In" Tesio. Likely to end up chasing Justify early, which is not ideal.
by Quality Road Person 2: An ungraded race should never be a "WAYI" for a classic. Lucky he's not blocking a better horse.
Owner: Cash Is King, D J Stable, & L C Racing; Trainer: John Servis; Jockey: Javier Castellano

5 Good Magic 3-1 5-2 100 2nd, 99 Person 1: Was sitting on a big race in Derby, fired, was second best. Running here as Belmont never an option.
by Curlin Person 2: Ran well in Derby as he was close to Justify's pace, but it's difficult seeing him turning the tables.
Owner: e Five Thoroughbreds & Stonestreet Stables; Trainer: Chad Brown; Jockey: Jose Ortiz

6 Tenfold 20-1 20-1 92 ** Person 1: Looks like ambitious spot for a lightly raced colt who had every chance in Ark. Derby but was outrun.
by Curlin Person 2: Simply not fast enough from the standpoint of speed figures to contend, but has room to improve.
Owner: Winchell Thoroughbreds; Trainer: Steve Asmussen; Jockey: Ricardo Santana Jr.

7 Justify 1-2 2-5 107 1st, 103 Person 1: Set wicked Derby pace, kept going. Has come a long way in brief time. Makes fifth start in 13 weeks.
by Scat Daddy Person 2: His Derby effort was tremendous. If he's as special as he seems, his schedule won't mean a thing.
Owner: WinStar Farm, China Horse Club, Starlight Racing, & Head of Plains Partners; Trainer: Bob Baffert; Jockey: Mike Smith

8 Bravazo 20-1 30-1 93 6th, 91 Person 1: Ran far better than expected in Derby. Bumped at start, wide throughout, kept to task until late.
by Awesome Again Person 2: He still was beaten eight lengths, but agree, his Derby effort was okay, can get a small piece here.
Owner: Calumet Farm; Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas; Jockey: Luis Saez

Abbas

CONTINUED FROM TRIPLE CROWN PTR,
AFTER FIRST LEG KENTUCKY DERBY SECOND LEG ON MAY 19, 2018 PREAKNESS STAKES AND THIRD LEG IN JUNE 9, 2018

HERE IS SOME INFORMATION ABOUT PREAKNESS STAKES HORSES:

1) Quip

Owner: WinStar Farm LLC, China Horse Club International Ltd., and SF Racing

Trainer: Rodolphe Brisset

Jockey: Florent Geroux

Morning line odds: 12-1

A former assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, Brisset elected to sit out the Derby with Quip, despite their having qualified. Quip has run through his conditions, winning first out and following that up with an impressive allowance win; after a seventh-place finish in his first stakes outing last November, he won the Grade 2 Tampa Derby and finished second in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. He’s yet another with a speedy running style, and he’s never raced on anything except a fast, dry track.

2) Lone Sailor

Owner: GMB Racing

Trainer: Tom Amoss

Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

Morning line odds: 15-2

He had a tough trip in the Derby, finishing eighth, and undeterred, Amoss brings him back two weeks later to take a shot here. He’s got a win in the mud—admittedly, at seven furlongs, and last summer—and he’s shown that he can run well near the front or from off the pace. He’s owned by G M B Racing, the stable of the late Tom Benson, owner of the New Orleans Pelicans and Saints; his wife Gayle has taken over the management of the stable (and the teams).

3) Sporting Chance

Owner: Robert C. Baker and William L. Mack

Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas

Jockey: Luis Contreras

Morning line odds: 30-1

The first of two here for Lukas, this guy looked last summer like he was going to be one of the top three-year-olds of 2018. He won twice at Saratoga, incuding the Grade 1 Hopeful, and hasn’t made it back to the winner’s circle since, and he failed to even qualify for the Kentucky Derby. A wet track could be tricky for him, and he’s another that’s done his best running while setting the pace.

4) Diamond King

Owner: Cash Is King LLC, DJ Stable LLC, and LC Racing LLC

Trainer: John Servis

Jockey: Javier Castellano

Morning line odds: 30-1

Both trainer and owners are veterans of Preakness wins: John Servis with Smarty Jones in 2004, Cash Is King the following year with Afleet Alex. Both are also Mid-Atlantic-based, so you have to think a win here would be particularly sweet. Diamond King’s only start in a graded stakes race was the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill Downs back in November, and he lost the rider in the early going, so that’s not going to help your handicapping. Over the winter the horse was moved from trainer Butch Reid to Servis; in his two starts in the new barn, Diamond King was third in the Grade 3 Swale and won the local prep, the Federico Tesio at Laurel last month. He’s got plenty of stamina in his pedigree; he’s another that likes to go to the front, which could make things interesting early on. If the rain does come in Baltimore, he’ll be making his first start on an off track. He gets a serious upgrade in the saddle with Hall of Famer Castellano on board for the first time.

5) Good Magic

Owner: E Five Racing Thoroughbreds and Stonestreet Stables

Trainer: Chad Brown

Jockey: José Ortiz

Morning line odds: 3-1

Last year’s 2-year-old champion was the runner-up to Justify in the Kentucky Derby, holding off Audible by a head, and there’s no shame in that finish over that track in what was his first start in the mud. That augurs well for success if the track is sloppy on Saturday…but Justify is a mudlark, so he’ll have to find a way to go one better this time.

6) Tenfold

Owner: Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC

Trainer: Steve Asmussen

Jockey: Ricardo Santana Jr.

Morning line odds: 20-1

He began his racing career in February, winning on début at Oaklawn Park by 5 3/4 lengths and next out. He stepped up into stakes company in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, finishing fifth by only 4 1/2 lengths. Yet another who likes to run on or near the lead; his regal breeding (by two-time Horse of the Year Curlin, who won this race in 2009, out of a Tapit mare) suggests that the distance will be no problem. This would be his first outing on an off track.

7) Justify

Owner: China Horse Club, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Starlight Racing, WinStar Farm

Trainer: Bob Baffert

Jockey: Mike Smith

Morning line odds: 1-2

What more do you say? Four races, four wins. He’s answered every question with an emphatic “yes,” he loves the mud, his trainer has won this race six times. Purchased for half a million dollars, he’s now earned $2 million, and while I’m not ready to grant him a Triple Crown, his company is going to have to step up to beat him on Saturday. The controversy over a possible foot injury seems to have died down, and all reports are that physically, he’s doing great.

Owner: Calumet Farm

Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas

Morning line odds: 20-1

This Calumet Farm homebred, the second of two from the Lukas barn, comes off a 6th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby, an improvement off an 8th-place finish in his final prep for the Derby, the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby. He earned his way into the Derby with a nose win in the Grade 2 Risen Star at Fair Grounds, and he seems to do his best running when he can get close to the front. Lukas has won seven editions of the race, most recently in 2013 with Oxbow. The weather at Pimlico this week is expected to be wet; Bravazo’s only start in the mud was in the Kentucky Derby.

The rematch is officially on in the 2018 Preakness Stakes, with Kentucky Derby winner Justify entered to challenge runner-up Good Magic on Saturday in the second leg of the Triple Crown series.

Those two headline the field of eight drawn Wednesday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

Justify, who is unbeaten in four career starts, drew Post 7 (same as the Derby) and was assigned 1-2 morning line favoritism. The 2-year-old champion Good Magic will wear the No. 5 saddle towel as the 3-1 second choice.

Justify arrived earlier Wednesday to Pimlico.

"No hiccups," said his trainer, Bob Baffert, of the travel. "..Horse shipped well. He was full of himself when he got off the van."

The Kentucky Derby ran over a sloppy track, with similar conditions expected this weekend at Pimlico.

To get a dry surface, Good Magic trainer Chad Brown said, "is just another little thing we could have changed about the Derby to maybe help us turn the tables. You don’t want to run the same exact race where everyone runs the same exact way and on the same exact track.

"Obviously," Brown added, "we already have some changes here: We’re at a different track on two weeks’ rest, with different posts, and a slightly different distance. To run on a dry track would be nice as an additional something different.”

Also coming back from the Derby in the Preakness are Bravazo (sixth) and Lone Sailor (eighth). Top "new shooters" -- horses that haven't yet run in a Triple Crown race -- include graded stakes winners Quip, Sporting Chance and Diamond King.

“You want some good horses in there,” Baffert said. “There is nothing wrong with taking another shot. (Good Magic's) going to be tough. There are some nice horses in there. It’s not a gimme.”

Baffert has taken four previous Preakness Stakes he's entered with a Derby winner, most recently with American Pharoah in 2015.

Post time for Saturday's Preakness -- the 13th of 14 races carded at Pimlico -- is 6:20 p.m. ET.

Post time is set for 6:48 p.m., and the race will be televised by NBC.
