Chairman, Hrc, Please Do Something .

By A D | 30-Jul-2018

Mr Chairman,
Hyderabad Race Club.

Wish to bring the following problem to your kind notice for necessary action. Bringing the matter to some authorities is not getting the required attention.

The Bookies ring of late has become worse than a fish market.

---The ring is crowded by more than 500 to 700 punters.

---On week days, only half the bookies operate and their stands are kept in half the area of the ring, making the situation still worse.

---The crowd is terribly jam-packed like chicken in a basket, unable to even move.

---Punters find it very difficult to move, or go near bookie stands and even find it very difficult to play or approach the bookies and bet.

---People trample over one another's feet apologisingly or get vulgar abuses.

This problem is mainly caused by tote playing punters entering the bookies ring and occupying much of the place. They do not bet at the bookies, but stand and watch the goings-on, un-bothered of the already crowded ring.

This prevents people who want to bet with the bookies.

Why can't a SS mesh be set up surrounding the ring, and an additional small amount of entrance fee be collected for genuine punters, who want to enter the bookies ring ?

It is earnestly requested that you look into the matter and do something to ease the situation, especially the senior citizens.

Thank you.

Hi,

Though there are so many people whi enter betting ring even when they do not bet with bookies, we cannot ask them to stand outside as they have equal rights, meanwhile at hyderabad there are so many other problems which needs to addressed like canteen, cleanliness, good parking lot etc..

Inside the race course everyone is equal. You may be a big shot outside.

You bet 2k, 5k, 25k or peti. But a 5/- tote player is having as much right to enter the bookies ring as you. You do not have the right to blame a tote player or treat them as 2nd class citizen or 3rd class citizen.

My point is even if you fix a fees for entering the bookies ring, there will be no big or visible improvement.

Of course that is my view. There is nothing negative in the statement.

I do not believe in playing to the gallery. I can also say because of the rush, my slippers went missing, my shirt and trousers were torn, my purse was stolen etc. But when you come to the race course, be prepared for all this. There may be 1OOO punters who bet 1OOO or upwards. But those who are ready to pay 33% tax and bet smaller amounts like 2OO to 5OO are also in big numbers. They are also bettors. Of course there may be some who are there merely to watch the tamasha. But, you can not condemn them. EVERYONE IS EQUAL. In fact those small punters have arguably higher right because they are betting by paying full tax.

So you experienced severe inconvenience. Right. What do you expect. Should the crowd simply disappear the moment you enter the betting ring? Sometime ago I went to a party. About 2OO guests. It was a big embarrassment for me when I saw people crowded at Ice cream kiosk. On another occasion I was in a big hurry. The taxi I was travelling was moving at pedestrian speed due to heavy traffic. What can be done about these.

With the GST rates, punters who bet small amount are ready to pay full tax even for their small bets. Naturally there will be crowd in front of every bookie.

AD's comments have been up voted by some. Right. But, do not expect everyone who make comment here should necessarily play the role of jalra. There will be down votes also. I am not telling that I am making negative comments. But, even if you consider them as negative you do not have the right to pull me up. Who gave you the right to tell me that I should stick to commenting on tote problems only?

If HRC takes some corrective measures, I really welcome that. But, I do not see any feasible or practicable corrective measures. If belying my skepticism they come with some good ideas, that is well and good.

Comment on my views. But do not arrogate to yourself the right to teach me what I should write and what I should not write.

@ Racebro,

Right. The HRC should come with some good idea. The only good idea I can think of is expanding the betting ring. But that is the solution worse than the problem. At now some 1OOO people may be inside the ring. Thereafter it will be 2OOO.

HRC can not do anything. The Government of India has the magic wand. Let them say GST is 12% for race betting. There may be many who are ready to switch over to tote.

SS mesh around bookies is dangerous to life when their is any stampede or suffocation.

Every one who comes to Race club will bet on horses you just can't discriminate/blame them because they are playing less amount n you betting high amount of money and making bookies rich and yourself poor.

Don't forget that you are also one of the person who is disturbing others.

Stay away from Gambling live healthy and wealthy life.

AD, You are absolutely right!

It is up to the management how they solve this. Even additional charge is a very good point, many are not even punters. It is a nightmare for the club members to enter into the betting arena and bet with a bookie.

I don't think we can never match or even come closer to the international standards. In UK bookies are in open area. Why because people are literate and decent. Moreover they have electronic boards and you get an official receipt for your betting.

The government talks about swatch Bharath, toilets etc etc...Is it something great to talk about that you provided toilets and given Electricity which is a necessity for every citizen. We are in 21st century, talk about educating people and raising the living standards of the common people providing Jobs and raising the economy of India.

I am sorry the standards has to go up whether it is a small or a big organisation.

Lets hope the authorities come up with a decent idea and implement it.

@ raghavan

Why do you always come out with negative comments when punters want a little improvement in facilities ? You are a tote man, then please write on tote problems, as you did when Bangalore club was closed. Leave ring problems to be solved by the club authorities.

What A D has written is absolutely correct.

I too could not bet on many occasions, though travelling more than 20 kms to the course. Not only that, I was on the receiving end of many famous Hyderabadi gallis / vulgar language. On one occassion, due to pushings and shoving, my spectacles fell down and the frame was broken.

I join A D in requesting the chairman and stewards ( Race Dept ), to see for themselves the horrid situation and do the needful.

Let's join hands to make racing a little bit more pleasant and comfortable.

If you do not like crowds, then the only remedy is to stay at home.

You say that bookies ring should be cordoned off and an additional entry fee should be charged to whoever desires to enter. Believe me. You are only giving idea to the management to collect some extra fees. Because the crowd which bet at tote will be more than willing to pay and enter the bookies ring.

If there are now 8OO people without any additional charge, it will be 5 or 1O short with some additional charge.

Bookies are there. Do your betting overcoming all the difficulties. Or stand in queue and bet at tote. The problem at BNG is still worse. About 12 bookies. And inside the ring every inch is occupied by the punters.

@ AD you have raised a very genuine and imminent issue which needs to be addressed ASAP

There is a similar situation in pune especially during weekends. After the horses leave the paddock it becomes impossible to reach a bookie without pushing or stamping on crowded feet.

It is not that the authorities are not aware of the situation they just turn a blind eye expecting people to manage and waiting for some disaster to happen only then will they act upon it. Its unfortunate that in our country authorities will act only post some tragedy.

Lets hope that the authorities start caring for the common punter before any sad incident occurs.

Dear A D
Instead of giving ur views in H.T. U could have sent a letter to chairman of H.R.C.
The above said reason is 100% genuine, some work has been done also they put a jaali for book makers ring some objections arised for that the work has been stopped for no reason.
Only 10% of people are playing in ring and 90% people standing & disturbing a lot, its like a jaam pack general bogie train, but nobody takes care regarding this matter after several complaints also.
