By S C Sharma | 10-Oct-2018

It is reliably learned  that Jockeys after a meeting with stipendary stewards decided not to accept rides for this weekend on 13th and 14th October, 2018  at Pune. The reason known for this is  they are doing to oppose the suspension of jockey C S  Jodha and as a protest they decided to do so. In this connection the jockeys association of India also given a letter to the secretary of RWITC on 10th October, 2018 that they will not accept the rides. More updates if any may pl. be submitted.

Suspension of a Jockey only raises the question Is the jockey only responsible for losing a race? No,when a horse performs well and wins accordingly it is due to a team effort where trainer, riding boys, diet of the horse and getting the maximum fitness so that the horse performs accordingly.Likewise all concerned should be also responsible for a horse low performance and not the Jockey only. The Jockey relies on the information given to him by the trainer and assistants therefore in my opinion all should be investigated at the same time.

Rarely does a jockey hook a horse on his own. Most of the time he follows the directions give by the trainer and the owners. Not absolving the jockey completely but the trainer and owners should also go for a longer vaccation, unless they can prove that the jockey was the sole responsible party.

Latest update in the jockeys not accepting rides issue is jockeys representatives discussed the matter with RWITC Chairman and got fresh assurance that their grievances and matter related to their concerns will be properly looked into and necessary suitable measures will be taken at the earliest. Now they requested their member jockeys to accept the rides and cooperate with the club in smooth conduct of races in the interest of one and all. This is for your information.
