Chennai Races Look Attractive!

By Smart-still-poor-punter | 14-Nov-2018

Hi Friends,

The Chennai race course seems to be improving with every racing day. What attracts me the most is the engagement of outstation riders in large numbers, thereby providing variety to the event.

Popular names like Ryan Marshall, J Chinoy, P P Dhebe, K Sai Kiran and Darshan R N (there are a few more) definitely enhances the credibility of the running of the races.

Although trainers B Suresh and R Foley look like continuing to hold the fort, it's satisfying to note many others are also getting their share regularly.

Full marks to the current set of administrators for infusing new blood into this reputed race course, which was once considered to be the best in India.

In Racing No Sorry. No Thank you. I am so humbled to see that you are so positive about life.  I feel so low to have said Joke of the Year which I immediately take it off.   Have a good day. Happy punting.

Mr.Venu,

After going through your second post, I felt like expressing myself .... Whatever I had expressed was a spontaneous reaction.. what came to my mind. Please take things sportively. My reply was never meant to insult you or put you down. Please dont take things  that way. Accept my apologies if I have hurt your feelings.. sorry from my heart.

I have been in racing for more than 40 yrs and I have seen the way how  racing was conducted in Madras  - which was a premium racing center in India. How gradually it fell down to dumps because of the selfishness of one individual ( so sad ). Recovering to get back to the old glory - is by itself a big challenge for MRC. Long way is there to go still. ( No other club may be facing this type of challenge ). I have complimented some of the committee members with whom I am friendly for whatever they have done  and wished them success to achieve more in guiding the club in the right direction.

What Mr Godzilla has written is very true. Unless we can depend on past performance of the horses/ swimming and track work outs/ data required for proper analysis - racing will be like gymkhana racing. That way the racing whatever is going on in Chennai may not be acceptable for a genuine professional punter. It may take quite some time for MRC to reach that level of racing. But surely in the last 1 year + the present committee has taken first couple of steps at least to put the Madras racing in right direction. I wish MRC all success.

    Mr.Venu, sorry once again,

                                               Dr.Bashaar

Mr.Venu,

I have never claimed that Jockeys like Ryan Marshall, P.P.Dhebe etc are at par with Trevor,Suraj etc. I fully agree that there is no comparison. I was only trying to tell that if Trevor,Suraj etc fall in the category of A level jockeys, then Ryan Marshall, Dhebe etc should be given atleast D category... surely not with zero merit and put them in Z category jockeys... and surely they dont deserve " Joke of the year " .. teasing from you.

If there is no merit ( according to you ) do you think owners like Shapoor Mistry / Manjri stud would have engaged P.P.Dhebe ? Its your wish whether to accept P.P.Dhebe as a good rider or not. Time and again he has shown on many occassions that he is surely an above average jockey.

Mr.S.S.P.P was only trying to put it that with jockeys like Ryan Marshall, P.P.Dhebe having entered the racing scene in Chennai, surely it will give some extra colour to Chennai racing...thats all. He never wanted to compare anyone with anyone else. He has also clearly told in his next post to wait and watch.. for other jockeys like Trevor , Sandesh etc to join the stream in Chennai, which may give a big boost to Chennai racing which is slowly trying to reestablish in its own way/ at its own pace which needs to be applauded ( instead of teasing as a joke of the year ). There was a time when Chennai racing was so badly ruined...by....?... Madras race club couldnt afford to have their own racing days ( always it used to clubbed with off course racing of some other center )...... ( when practically no one - either Bookmaker or punter was serious about live racing of chennai ).. at least give credit to what they have been able to achieve. See now at least they have reached a stage where they can have there own racing days without having to club with some other center's racing... and also fairly good number of punters are willing to participate... it may still take a long time to get back the old/ Past glory. Please have a heart to cooperate and applaud their small/ Medium success ( wherever you want to place it )

Last you have asked me whether I can place a bet confidently ( like how bets can be made when Trevor,Sandesh etc are riding ) on Dhebe etc. I dont know why have dragged the matter of betting in this post. The issue mentioned by SSSP is only to give credit to Madras race club and nothing else.

Also regarding placing big bets with jockeys like Trevor, Sandesh etc.... So soon you have forgotten Riki Tiki Tavi ridden by Sandesh, Corfe Castle ridden by Trevor.. several examples are there which I can quote. One loser like this will give chance for 4 subsequent wins by these jockeys for Bookmakers to survive. correct ? ( So even if Trevor,Sandesh win regularly, 1 such loss is enough for them to take the punters to Cleaners ) As far as placing big bets when these jockeys - Dhebe etc  are riding ( even when winning once in a leap year ).. yes surely they are worth - as the mounts in such cases have given to these jockeys to get better odds thats all. Its upto you to identify such bets and get involved or not ...... ( for eg St.Peters Burg which was recently ridden by Ryan Marshall for win in Mysore ).

I am still unable to understand why you have placed P.P.Dhebe in the category of Leap year jockey !!!!

Yo Man

Where are the good horses ?

Where is the track work ?

Where are good jockeys and Trainers ?

In Classics, the trophy may go to local horses, trainers and jockeys  !!!

Where are the past records of horses ?

Where is the swimming pool for horses and records maintained ?

Chennai Race Course lacks basic needs !!!

How can any one call it as improving ?

For that matter how can anyone trust and bet on a particular horse or jockey ?

Still a long way to go my dear !!!!

Sorry Sspp, Sorry Dr. If I have hurt your sentiments.  I have gone through your posts once again and feel that today K Sai Kiran's mounts are well placed and today may be his turn   However, I also have a soft corner for A. Imran Khan's mounts. So good luck and happy punting brothers.

Mr Venu,

I can not answer your question about the confidence level of punters while betting on Marshall, Sai Kiran etc.  However, you will agree that with a grand treble unleashed by Ryan Marshall/P P Dhebe (all trained by Craig Marshal)  a 100/- could have been converted to one lakh rupees.

I did not bet  on R Marshall the first two.  In the last race, I took forecast 2,9/2,9,5.   15 tickets.  The payout was 4890/-.  against investment of 600.

Earlier, I had lost around 2000 in the 5 races betting on exacta / forecast on all races.  In the 6th race I purchased 11,6/11,5,6,8 forecast 5 tickets. That gave me around 1430/-.

So, among the present lot available in Chennai, Small still poor punter has some love towards Marshall, Kiran ray, Dhebe etc.  Well, you disagree.  No problem.  But, I do not think he has written something preposterous.  Certainly you could have avoided  "joke of the year" remark.

Ok. Dr. Can I ask you one simple question.  How convinced / confident  can you be in wagering a sizable amount on these so called popular Jockeys Ryan Marshall, J Chinoy, P P Dhebe, K Sai Kiran and Darshan R N.

Of course, the most is you can include them in your jackpot combination and quinella bets. You can never back a 5k or a 10k bet on them.  They are leap year winner jockeys and gambles are planned around them.

instead, one can back heavy on a Trevor, Sandesh, Suraj, Akshay Kumar and off late C .Umesh.  They are as you very rightly said Popular jockeys and punters can plan their gamble around them.

Oh, really sorry Mr. Venu. By 'popular' I mean jockeys who are better known in the world of punting compared to the local names strictly restricted to Chennai race course. And you can see from today's results in Chennai that almost all the names that I have referred to have performed far better than locals. In fact, Ryan Marshall and P P Dhebe went on to score a brace each. There are certain punters who prefer to play outstation riders and that must have paid them rich dividends today. The 'big' names that you might be having in your mind (like Trevor, Sandesh, Srinath and Neeraj) will also be seen in action, during Classics though. Let's encourage better racing in Chennai, a centre that has been struggling so much to rebuild itself. Thank you

Mr.Venu,

Sorry - I dont know what you mean by Popular Jockeys .Do you think only suraj Narredu,Sandesh,Trevor,Zervan etc are popular jockeys?

Of course I agree that these jockeys whom STSP has mentioned ,dont come upto the merit of suraj,Sandesh etc. But again Ryan Marshall , Sai Kiran etc are not with zero merit either.

If STSP has mentioned the names of these jockeys as popular jockeys, it doesnt stand as loke of the year.

Mind it -these jockeys whom STSP mentioned ..are far far better than those jockeys who are riding regularly in Chennai - and they proved it also taking 4 out of 7 races .

Since when did Ryan Marshall, J Chinoy, P P Dhebe, K Sai Kiran and Darshan R N become popular names.  Joke of the Year.
