Bookies Behaviour At Chennai

By Godzilla | 18-Nov-2018

I have seen most of the Bookies and their staff are rude towards Punters at Chennai. They just collect the money and throw it to their staff not even mentioning the odds at which the bets are placed. The staff on their part make you to wait to confirm the betting amidst the huge crowd waiting for confirmation and collection of balance money. Lot of hustling, pushing takes place in the process. Its in case of big punters also. Dogs will get a better treatment than the punters in  the hands of Bookies here.

No one with self respect would like to be treated in this manner. In view of such kind of treatment, I have stopped attending Races for a long time now. I have made up my mind to attend Races during Derb  days for the sake of fun only.

In case of inter venue betting of Races at two different places, since there is hardly any time left to operate, the Bookies put odds for a few minutes and then erase, amidst the confusion and chaos at the Betting Centre.

We tolerate such nonsense which happens as there is no proper organizing skill prevailing with the Bookies at Chennai.

Unless more Bookies are installed, one cannot escape being humiliated. Such dividends from betting amount is not required sacrificing ones  own dignity and grace.

I visited chennai race course once, the counter staff are very slow and can't understand forecast combination or anything, I simply said ,forecast 5 bank 3,6,8,9 each 100, she is blinking ,I tried all the counters and the result was same. Then I had to say 5 3 forecast 100 one ticket like that. The best totes and betting center is Hyderabad. Fantastic one

Small still poor punter,

I have stopped advising punters to bet at tote, if their idea is win/place bets.

Let them bet with bookies only.  Because at tote, you may have to be satisfied with 3/4th or sometimes just 60% of what you get with bookies.   I am speaking with BNG tote in mind.  There are still good number of loyal punters who can not afford 1100 in every race and they have to bet at tote only.  Of course if you are betting minimum amount (say upto 500), and the odds are 20/1, then you can take a chance at tote.

Godzilla is very unhappy with the behaviour of bookies.  The only remedy is note down the bookie name/stall name and never care to visit that stall again.  I do not think all bookies are of the same dirty mindset.

Notwithstanding the fact that I gave up racing four years before, as someone who had bet in all the race courses in India, including the pint-sized Ooty, I can tell with conviction that there is nothing like betting with bookies in Chennai. They are simply the best when it comes to offering prices, both for win and place.

You go to any other course in India and give a shout for a 'quarter petti', they will take a few thousands and leave you stranded. In Chennai, the situation is not so with many bookmakers willing to 'eat' punters money as much as possible. And there's absolutely no problem for 'big' punters because their bets are well taken care of.

The real problem, therefore, is for those who place medium-sized bets. Not all bookies in Chennai behave in a rude manner. There are 1 or 2 who don't know basic manners and use 'unparliamentary' words freely. In fact, they should be booked by police and lodged in jail. Others are fine.

As Mr Raghavan frequently advocates, more and more punters should turn to tote betting so that the bookies begin to lose their prominence. The present 'monopoly' can be easily understood, and that's why punters are always at their mercy.

The most decent bookies in India, according to me, can be seen in Mysuru. For those who are not familiar with this picturesque race-course, let me tell you the bookies are well educated and behave very softly. Hardly you will come across wrong entries on your bet. The tote also offers reasonably good dividends here, both when combined with Bangaluru and not.

The 'busiest' race course, of course, is Hyderabad, where the Rs.5 system attracts a very large number of punters to the tote.

The 'most boring' punting takes place at Mahalakshmi.

I can totally relate to it, as it's the same thing in Bengaluru as well. Absolutely disgusting. Shouting, throwing money, angry faces and what not! A lot of times i have bet huge amounts in tote only taking lower profits, only  because of the chaos.
