Jockey Sunil Samson Fall During The Race At Bangalore

By Rb | 18-Dec-2018

i would like to wrtie about jockeys falling off horses in the process of the race being run.

classic case is of sunil samson falling off his mount.

the horse was travelling wide and was not interfered with by anyone.

the horse stumbled due a fault in the track, which must have had a pothole, and so it seemed from the replay. i hope some one checked for the same.

both horse and jockey fall and the jockey pays with his life for apparently no fault of his, and magnificent mary had to be euthanized for having fractured both its for legs.

this is sad beyond sad for the lives of the jockey and so also the horse.

i suggest some imperitive and easy changes need to be made as compared to what happens currently.

1) every race should be insured for any accident, like is the case with cars. no race should be run if not insured. this would mean that in case of a mishap the jockey / jockeys concerned would get compensated for any hardships they go through. the same could be catagorised in form of minor injury, major injury but curable, temporary disabiliry, permanant disability, death. compensations for death and permenant disability should be in the range of 2 to 3 crores of rupees to the family of the jockey, possibly in form of a pension bond.......... one cannot put a value to life, but still. the horse owner should be paid 10 times the stake money the horse has so far collected, by the insurance company.

2) there should be better training, to the jockeys on ethical and safe riding. jockeys who ride with disregard towards other riders should be punished heavily. monetory fines, suspensions, and licence suspension should be excersiced in such cases weather they led to a mishap or no. this will make jockeys have courtesy to their fellow riders in a race.

3) track managers accountability should be made very stringent. if horses stumble due to there being potholes in the track, that should be a criminally punishible offence. the team responsible for the upkeep and maintainance of the track should be a set of highy responsible / conscientious set of people. failing which the tracks can all be converted to astro turf.

i hope all the chair holders of the racing clubs read this and have it in them to reply why all of the above should / should not be done.

May he recover soon by the grace of God.

rb.

I understand the guys who look after the track in Bangalore are paid huge salaries. No accountability?

a few measures  of the above mentioned will take place only when multiclassic winner of some big owners horse meets such of kind of accidents. Until then all the clubs don’t take an inch on these things. A minute silence or class 4 or 5 race will be named after them as memorial cup. It’s better they open their eyes now.Pranab p dhebe missed once and Sunil was unlucky got hurt badly.

the best solution I would suggest to BTC  is if any funds required to increase the standards of racing please take a step to install a Donation box at each bookie counter I am sure punters are more  kind hearted.

A very valid suguestion, only that the hore owner is not to be paid any compensation, as he could buy insurance of his own.

When the club, government, and others including the 1/2 tax guys ( faulty system ) get a percentage , why should a smal percentage be alloted to the lives of those dependent on it ?.
