Back to listsRe: Dean's Kitten
By Indian_turf_record | 27-Dec-2018The "Register of Stallions in India 2018" was recently published by Stud Book Authority of India. As always, it contains wealth of information which useful to anyone connected with racing. We don't make sufficient use of such factual information, prefering to rely on perceptions, half truths and sweeping statements.
One section of the Register deals with the average winning distance of a stallion's progeny. That section also mentions that the average distance of a race in India is 1302 m. The top five stallions ranked by the Average Winning Distance (AWD) in India were:-
Dean's Kitten - 1539 m. (38 wins)
Kingda Ka - 1499 m. (158 wins)
Multidimensional - 1482 m. (515 wins)
Whatsthescript - 1452 m. (83 wins)
Sedgefield - 1446 m. (237 wins)
It was surprising to see Sohna Stud stallion Dean's Kitten at the top. So further study was carried. By 25 December, his wins had increased to 49 wins but his AWD had dropped to 1463 m. His wins came through 25 different winners. Two of those winners were out of same dam so 24 different dams had provided his winners.
As matter of interest, complete produce records to those 24 dams were examined. Apart from their foals by Dean's Kitten, their foals by other stallions had won 199 races and their AWD was 1212 m. So their foals by Dean's Kitten had AWD greater by 251 m. ! This was startling revelation and can be interpreted in various ways.
