Kolkata A Mystery?

By Turf Tactician | 16-Feb-2019

Kolkata a mystery?

It saddens me to see that results off late at Kolkata are extremely erratic if not nigh impossible to pick, even at the higher classes! If you are “not” one among the masses that is finding it difficult to pick winners then read no more, call yourself an exceptionally lucky punter!

Let alone win payouts, even the place, forecast payouts are not in sync with expectations (again great work if you are amongst the few that are cracking it).

Yes horses should improve after each run as the theory goes but a drastic improvement to strike at lucrative odds appears to be the pattern in the recent months! Not for one moment suggesting that favourites should oblige each time but leaving aside the favourite (or the false favourite) picking “that winner”, second, third even post event leads me to rethink racing principles for a minute, did I miss something? Of course it’s a game of chance and a fair few things need to go your way but older horses outsmarting younger ones consistently, surely that says bundles about the standard of racing. This does not happen in Bombay or Bangalore.

The sad part if one can call it that is, none of the favourites are odds on, which only leads me to believe that horses are certainly not running true to form or that authorities that be are not posing the right questions to enquire as to the improvement or lack of, of the horses performance. Why? Does the 21 day timeframe with regards to the horses performance not apply in Kolkata? Are the stipes turning a blind eye?

I have come across the many that are losing badly in Kolkata.  I feel that if steps aren’t taken then RCTC will certainly lose followers.

I sincerely hope that punters are wary and watchful before they go and place their next wager in what seems to be racing standards at a deteriorating level in Kolkata!

Apologies there are more questions than answers but I hope that the right action is taken to ensure racing fraternity sees standards improve and “objectivity is upheld and not overruled” going forward.

Answer is very simple. Quality of 3 year old horses in Mumbai and Bengaluru is far far superior to horses from all other center's.All other center's horses have potential to go up to class 4.So there is no class factor but only form

It's true that a majority of the punters find certain centres like Kolkata and Hyderabad to be a nightmare because of the inconsistency factor. That's why you don't find a huge crowd for such centres. On the other hand, we see a good turnout for Mumbai and Bangaluru, this despite the fact the prize money is these two centres are not even up to the level what Chennai pays? Why? A majority of the punters strongly believe that racing in Mumbai and Bangaluru because they know it's always possible for them to bounce back at some stage. This is quite uncertain in not only centres like Kolkata and Bangaluru but also Delhi and Mysuru.

I don't say Bangaluru and Mumbai are the best. On many occasions they have proved to be the worst. But it all depends on what you expect. If you want favourites to win one after the other, then racing is not for people like you. On the other hand, if you want every race to be an upset, even in such a case you are not going to fit into these scheme of things. You must know that racing is something that you can predict.

It is here I welcome the opinion expressed by Mr Raghavan. It looks very valid because racing will be there forever but you may not have money with you even for the next few years if you start betting in 'pettis'. Here, I would like to cite my own case. I started betting with Rs.5 in Chennai tote in 1989, slowly increased by bets to Rs.50 and Rs.100, and within months lifted myself to Rs.1,000 and above. A stage came where I could never enter the course without Rs.50,000 or so. If I win, it will be 4/1 or 5/1 at the end of the day but such days happened once in a bluemoon. It means you just cannot control your losses.

Seeing what is happening inside the racecourse from outside since 2014, I understand that many punters find the going very tough. Unless the punters evolve a perfect, practical strategy it's always going to get tougher in the days to come and it can well be the end of the road very soon! Still, all the best to my dear punters.

Dexter.

You say races are made up at Bangalore & Mumbai.  I do not agree with you.  Or let me put it like this.  With all its so called manipulation, BNG & MUM are the only two centers where a punter can play with higher confidence than the case at other centers.  See what I have written.  I say one can bet confidently at those two centers.  Whether one wins or not is a different matter.  But at centers like Kolkata, we totally depend on Almighty to protect us.

A D,

You say all race centers are like that only.  O K.  In that case you should avoid betting OR bet not more than 100/- per race at tote only.  Do that till the end of current winter season at all centers.  You will be at least satisfied that there will be one sucker less.

We can not stop punters from betting just because the center has acquired infamy due to manipulations.  But, we can at least ensure that bookies do not flourish and prosper hugely at our expense.  Certainly I do not have any problem if punters restrict their bets to max-2000.  But, 3k, 4k, 5k, 10k, 20k bets I am seeing everyday.  Wherefrom those punters bring cash daily is a big mystery to me.

All said well....From the past 3 years I had stopped going to Kolkata and Hyderabad races...these two club trainerst are 10th class trainer...I thought to say third class but it's not fair. Maximum Fluck and trainer gambling happens in these centre.

It's is no uses going to this club and betting.  Better stop

So, getting even one winner is difficult in Kolkata!  And it is more difficult to locate a horse that finishes in place also.

Remedy is in your habds, turf tactician.  Go to the race course with just one thousand in your pocket.  Bet not more than Rs. 50/100 in each race.  That also only if you can not resist the temptation.  Let any horse win.  You are safe.  Let all other punters who have lost heavily either stay at home (office) when Kolkata races are on OR let them enter the race course with maximum 1000/-.

Even I feel sorry for punters and more than jealous at the bookies.   Yesterday, two horses, Atom and Darsh.  took everyone by surprise.  Bookies pocketed huge profit  in that two races.

Punters should develop he habit of playing barest minimum in Kolkata races.  That too preferably at tote.  GST 28%.  O K.  Maro goli GST ko.  Here bookies take bets at 10% tax and tonsure all the punters.

What is happening at Kolkatta, is happening at all centres, but in different flavours.

Am fedup writing about this topic, since punters can't do anything in this matter. Some wiser ones may curtail or stop at this fag-end of the season, but majority cannot and will not stay away from the race course as they are habituated and addicted to it. These are  more than 85% of the racing public, and the clubs, and connections are there to loot their money.

In our nation, the mightier one is, the more looter he is.

Only way is for punters  to come together and do something, but this is not going to happen.

Write to the P M and show him that this sport is no more a sport or a game of skill, but a looters paradise, and ask him to ban horse racing in India.
