Blindfolded Stewards Of Delhi Race Course

By Baski | 20-Mar-2019

On 19th March 2019, in the fourth race of the day (Race No. 214), Horse No. 7 Bright Waters, ridden by jockey Dhanu Singh Deora was brought in front of the gates to be stalled in draw No. 3. As the horse was fractious it was blindfolded and then pushed in, in draw No. 3. The blindfold was kept on even after it was stalled to keep the horse calm till the start was ordered. But when the start was given the horse did not jump out as the blindfold was not removed in time by the handler. It was very clear that the blindfold was removed only after the start was given after which the horse jumped out last losing more than six lengths. The stewards should have held an enquiry into this incident and the respective horse declared as a non starter and all bets placed on this horse should have been refunded. But surprisingly there was no enquiry by the stewards and the all clear signal was given. So it seems that the stewards of DRC also are blindfolded as such they are not able to spot such occurances. GOD save the punters. Your views and comments on this please.

Delhi stewards act with wisdom and common sense occasionally.

On 8/1/2019, Veerbhadra, the favorite bolted and ran a considerable distance without jockey.  It was brought back to the stall after considerable time, stalled and was forced to run.  There was good betting on that horse as a favorite and everybody were anxious and were expecting it to be withdrawn.  Well.  Horse ran.  Finished in the ruck.  Some fluke winning the race.

However stewards woke up in time.  They held an enquiry and to the relief of every punter who had played favorite, declared no-2, Veerbhadra as non-starter.

So, on 18th also they could have held an enquiry.  The minimum expected.  The main point is whether the horse should be declared non starter.  It would have helped many as many punters had a bet on that horse.

But, if the stewards decided that the horse does not deserved to be treated as non starter, there would have been some angry comments.

I do not think there is any precedence wherein a horse is declared non starter because the jockey negligently allowed the blindfold to remain  till the start.  This is fault of jockey.  And, I do not think the stewards should have appeased the crowd by declaring the horse as non starter.  Treat that as mischievous or irresponsible negligence on the part of jockey.

@ Baski,

You are right. It has all the makings of a well planned coup. Surely, there has to be at least an enquiry even at this late stage for whatever it is worth, not that the punters are going to gain anything. The Stewards have to own up the blunder and take the necessary action to prevent such blatant acts...accidental or intentional !

Dear friends good evening.  Such incidents are common in DELHI. Nothing new. Yesterday ZAROON ran without any penalty after winning day before yesterday. There are so many incidents like a different horse run in the name of other name. All the races are decided before the first race itself.

  God save our punters community.

We in Bangalore played the same horse for place and we're waiting for a steward enquiry. But that did not happen. There should be a justice..
