Australia Has Maximum Number Of Racecourses ...

By Chanakya Kaushik | 20-Apr-2019

Ausralia is a sparsely poulated continent, trivialised by calling it a country by ignorants....

It has 360 racecourses mostly spread along its coastline - from east to west along southern peripheri...

Nothing inside or northern part of the continent !

why?

Because, the marauders or invaders or socalled - 'developers' were afraid to move inside the continet...

Australia is a continent and not a country, where European marauders in 18 & 19th. centuries descended and made it a home and not a slave country like India and many African countries where they could use the manpower to serve them. Australian aborigines, fearing persecution etc. moved to the interior and were not disturbed by the invaders who settled along the coast...

Melbourne, Sydney and ALL of the Australian cities are situated in coastal belt and most of the racecourses are also spread along the periphery of this belt...

1000 miles away from the seacoast we will scarcely find anything connected to racing except the tourists spots ...

Marauders and later on settlers from European countries have no means of entertainment/transportation in this literally barren continent - called country by few; except horse –related activities, and he(horse) became a part of their life and existence...

For entertainment, to pass time and to satisfy the urge to be better than the best which every adventurer wants to be; naturally it was racing which became the best outlet of entertainment and hundreds of race courses were created in that continent...

In fact 360 are too less - they should have 3600 or more...

Among the Indian race punters,  may be very few are interested in races abroad.  Occassionally I see some tweets in this or other site about Kentucky derby, Melbourne cup, Japan Cup etc.  So those few are broadly aware of what has been stated in this post.  For others, it is just like hearing that some treasure is buried in the vast Himalayas.

I do not know how much Horsetalk members are impressed by this post.  Those who like it may reply about their unforgettable experiences in Australia racing.

But, I am against one line mentioned in the post.  Chanakya Kowshik says India is a slave country!  I do not know what he means.  I do agree that India is yet to catch up with some big countries like America,  Britain etc.  But do not think the situation is so bad as to warrant such negative remark.  That too from retired Army officer.

I expect Chanakya to restrict his views only on racing matters in India (and abroad) but not to pass sweeping statements about this Country.

I,ve never claimed that I know everything...

I ,ve only one claim that I MAY know something about everything...

Australia is a continent - converted into a 'country' by European ( British, French, Italian and others) invaders in 18th. & 19th. century ; who have driven the minuscule aborigne native into inhopitable interior and captured the continent....

They could not do this to India - because Indians outnumbered them, 1000:1 ; but succeeded in converting , the then, India into 4 countries - India, Burma(mynamar), Pakistan andBangladesh...

I don't want to digress from the head-topic which stated that Austrlia has maximum number of race corses in the world but the invaders did not care for the developement of the continent ( country for some) like they did for North America and partially for South America...

why is it possible that a 'COUNTRY' ( not a continent?) has all its 'livable' cities - Darwin , Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide located - ALONG THE COASTLINE ; and NONE inside the country (continent in my opinion) !

Because to runaway from hostile 'natives' the best way was to get into a 'boat' or a ship and sail towards the home...

In India, whers these Europeans have established initially - Bombay, Calcutta, Daman, Diu etc...

Only when they 'found' subservient Indians - they moved inwards to rule the country...

But I donot want to discuss history here...

My intent was to show that in 18th, 19th and till mid 20th century the 'rulers' or the elite in a country were enjoying the sport of horse racing as a game, pastime, socialising and interacting for mutual benefits - but not for the benifits of the 'natives' - may be an Indian, African or Australian aborigineor anybody...

AUSTRALIAN RACING WAS THE BEST EXAMPLE/ PROOF OF MY 'OBSERVATIONS'...

I do accept that the racing in Australia is one of the cleanest racing in the world...
