War Hammer A Classic Contender?

By Turf Tactician | 03-Jun-2019

Firstly congrats to Apana, co owners, trainer PK and Trevor. Hatrick of wins in the bag and long may it continue. Well judged race ridden by Trevor despite having the outer draw, did not burn up to go to the front. perhaps sent a shiver or two at the 3f marker when Trevor looked to gather him to be in the hunt, doubts were certainly cleared at the 300m marker when he came with a blistering turn of foot to vanquish his rivals.

On the pedigree front, Sire Air Support a winner of 5 out of his 21 starts including the Virginia Derby as a 3yo and on the dam side Soviet Lake traces its roots to Bold Russian winner of the celebration mile (G2) as a 4yo in Goodwood and a close 2nd in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes (G3) in Sandown, UK. Stamina is in his blood and in my opinion will still improve as a 4yo if pedigree is anything to go by?

wishing the horse and all the connections the very best for the future.

Apana Sir, You are so humble. As I said in my earlier post's above War Hammer will become another Sergeant At Arm's. Good Luck and all the very best for the Colts. As of now he looks a likely winner among the colts.

Forget War hammer in any forthcoming classic. Dont make any useless hype around this horse.  Very very rarely horses win classics with BANDAGES on ALL FOUR LEGS. Incidentally in this particular race there were two horses with BANDAGES on ALL FOUR LEGS and both finished in the FIRST TWO (WAR HAMMER and MYSTIC BAY).  War Hammer has good turn of foot no doubt, and it pulverized the front runners passing 200 mtrs, wheres trafalgar like horses were fast finishing on.

War Hammer is surely a class act. We will hear a lot from him. He's like Sergeant At Arms. Not sure he will stay the Derby. Impavid is surely a strong contender for the Derby considering his timing and the ease with which he won.

Thank you!!

Our partners, Dr. Prashant (4 horses together) & Gautam Basapa ( 9 horses as partners) deserve more credit than me.

As small owners this race was interesting as it proved the horse, at this distance, could play with the big boys.

As mentioned above, Impavid's run was more interesting after it's last run and this distance (200 m more but looked like an easier run)...for those on pedigree... polenta would be better than Soviet lake on distance.

We are not big enough to think anything fancy...we are just planning for Colts.  We are fortunate that PK and his team are professional and believe.

Small owners like us get this opportunity once in a lifetime.

Very interesting posts here thank you all!! I personally, don't punt, but enjoy reading all your views.

In these difficult times in racing let us go back to why we are in this -- the thrill of the sport.

Thank you

Apana

Wizard of stocks is the one to note as he clocked a better timing than Blue Moon in his 2nd run. He still has a lot to improve and all the very best to this progeny of Speaking of Which

Going by the run of War hammer and I'm paved. Impavid win was very good. The pace of the race was slow when compared to war hammer race. Impavid did take time to cross the front runner. But he was finishing on strong with big strides which clearly indicates he needs more ground. War hammer was badly drawn and was travelling 6_7 horses wide throughout the race. But very impressive with the turn off foot he possessed.

These two colts will clash for the second classic. Going by the run. War hammer will have a say at the finish and should win the second classic from. IMPAVID. As far as Derby is concerned it will a three horse warhammer Impavid and Anjeez. IMPAVID will have say over the 10 furlongs and should annex the Summer Derby.  Seriously feel Sandesh looks bad on Impavid. Horse is winning by its merit. I feel the trainer and owner should give a serious thought about it. HOPE MR ARJUN understands. IT'S MATTER OF PRIDE.  These are my views. Opinions differ. Best wishes to both the owners of War hammer and Impavid

Without taking credit from the winner and hat tricker win performer ‘War Hammer’ for winning a seven furlong race,  like to mention ‘Impavid’s  performance completing a hat trick by winning a mile race in class two without being fully extended is also commendable and worth mentioning.  Still number of youngsters not exposed their potential and most surprising was the start to finish tactics adopted by ‘Missing You’ who liked a waiting and ridden in check policy in earlier runs and this time ran with a different tactics. The run of ‘Hunt for gold’ was also below par and expectations. Let’s wait for runs of few more youngsters to watch before arriving a conclusion for derby. No doubt ‘War Hammer’ is improving with every run and showing a lot of maturity and winning in commendable fashion.
